    It continually crashes

    • Written by from Maumee

I have used the plug outlets and several light switches for over a year. With each upgrade in firmware they crash more frequently. Since iOS 8 it doesn't stay up more than a second and it crashes both on iPad and iPhone. Now rules are not working either. Don't buy this product!!

WeMo Insight turns on/off randomly. Have reset/restored it over and over. No reason why it should be turning on/off rapidly in succession. Belkin support is no help.

Can't even connect to my WiFi!

    • Written by from Anacortes

It's been two days of reviewing all their help topics, blogs, videos, etc. trying everything imaginable and I still cannot connect to home wifi. Everything else, mac books, iphones, ipads, blue ray, all connect effortlessly to my wifi. This should not be this hard.

I have an email in to support. If they don't provide fast help it's going to be returned.

I had purchased this product with the hope that I could use it to control items in our winter home in the south.
After spending a great deal of time trying to get this unit to operate properly I have give up.
I would not trust the WeMo to control anything.

    Unbelievably Awful

    • Written by from High Wycombe

Complete and utter piece of junk. Totally unreliable with virtually no range. Regularly drops out requiring resetting and at the time of writing this review it refuses to see my wifi - Rarely have I been this unimpressed!

WeMo Switch does not connect to wifi

    • Written by from Carrollton

I would not waste any money or time on purchasing this product. It does not connect to your wifi network. I was thinking that you could also connect remotely to this device, but that is not the case which makes it useless. Even if it connected to your wifi, the best that it could describe it is an expensive remote control.

    Stay Away!

    Belkin App Needs Work

    • Written by from Westbury

The switch works fine… but the App is limited in its ability to configure lighting control schedules. It's very primitive compared to other Apps that I am presently using. I have two homes with WeMo devices, the App does not allow me to easily switch between homes to control my WeMo devices in both locations. For a remote control product this is a major flaw!

    Handsome Disappointment

    • Written by from San Antonio

Its connection is 3-prong (grounded) and it is 120v 15A. It adds 1.5" to the distance-from-wall of anything plugged into it as its receptacle is forward-facing. Its wide but if used in the top receptacle of a standard 2-receptacle outlet, you should still be able to use the bottom receptacle.
Setup is atrocious. It's 802.11b/g 2.4GHz (not that this is printed anywhere); the MAC address printed on the back of the unit is misleading as it has 2 MAC addresses (1 setup only, 1 that is used post-setup -- the one on the label is the setup MAC address; add 1 to the last digit of that address & you get the real MAC address) and it will NOT work in a MAC-filtered environment.

Crashes every time you try to use schedule

    • Written by from Boston

Do not bother wasting your money on one of these. The main feature they push, being able to run a device such as a light on a schedule, crashes every time on both android and iOS. For the amount they charge for this it is very annoying that such basic functionality does not work. We will be returning ours and I suggest you look for a different product.

Good Devices and Work as Claimed...IF you have a strong Wifi Router

    • Written by from Calgary

When I first began installing these devices I noticed I'd lose them from the device list. I'd have to reset the router to get them reconnected so they could be rediscovered. As I began to actually depend on the devices it got more and more annoying when they'd drop off the device list. I had wifi extenders which seemed to help, but I'd still lose devices.

For various other reasons I opted to upgrade my wifi router. The new one seemed to work worse than the old one, with ALL the WEMO devices dropping off in one gulp. I blamed the router...but before junking it I thought I'd try some "tricks" to reduce interference and to promote a stronger signal. They worked. Turns out my router was fine...it was where it was placed, and interference from my neighbors' routers that was creating all my wifi troubles.

So I've had a good solid several weeks of strong wifi connections and reliable use. The built-in rules for WEMO are very nice but tying the WEMO devices to the IFTTT system really adds some unique functionality. I can turn on my bedroom light and, at the same time, the lamps turn on as well. I have a heater in my garage that only turns on if it's actually cold outside. When my family comes home the outdoor lights turn automatically when my smartphone tells them we've returned to the area.

I have 16 wemo devices now and I fully intend on adding at least two more (so that all the lights on one floor are WEMO enabled).

But I'll agree with some of the other posters...if you've got a weak wifi signal, or wifi interference, they're annoying as heck to set up and maintain. And even if you do set them up, despite the interference/weak-signal, they may not function as you'd hoped (may not connect completely to IFTTT services).

So only get these if you've got a strong, reliable, wifi signal where-ever you plan on placing the wemo.

Went on a trip to barbados and was able to remote my switches from there.
Bought 3 of them, one with motion, sends me an email when someone walks by, neat.
Only problem I have is cannot see them on my home network until i replug them, but on 3g or any other wifi work great.

    Useful but expensive

    • Written by from Toronto

I need to replace some wireless switches that are starting to fail and this seems like the next better thing. However I have about 10 different devices which I would like to control and at $100.00 a shot, that's way too much $$. The WeMo works really well however and I like the simple App (in my case used with an iPhone) which allows a number of different ways to set it up. Just bring the price down and perhaps sell the "Switches" separately from the motion sensor and I may buy more.

    Complete and utter rubbish

    • Written by from Warwick

This cannot be relied up for switching electronics / heaters on and off, simply because it does not reliably allow you to do this. This obviously poses a serious safety risk and I'm sure it's only a matter of time before Belkin get sued over something like a house fire, caused by the malfunction of one of their devices / this app (whichever is to blame) .

The Belkin WeMo device does not work remotely

    • Written by from Scottsdale

The Belkin WeMo switch simply DOES NOT WORK REMOTELY which defeats its purpose. I bought the device to control a light on a second home. The device works in the home while I am there in person. As I go away and try to control it remotely from another house simply does not work. I have done this twice to no avail. The reason I bought it was to control it remotely. What good does it do if it cannot be controlled remotely. If it works only when I am there (i.e. were the device is) I may as well get up from my computer and turn the light switch on and throw away the device. Absolutely worthless. Don't waist your money by buying a WeMo switch. Wish I could get my money back, actually is not the money is false advertising that bothering me.

    Sunrise Sunset

    • Written by from West Kelowna

I've read many of the reviews dealing with this issue and add that as of Feb 15/15 there is still no fix. I am able to program my lights to turn on at sunset and it works fine for that day but the time does not change as the sunset time changes. I've been in contact with Wemo but they just keep sending cookie cutter responses pointing to my modem/router. The modem/ router does not carry the task of adjusting to sunset change. They're all idiots to allow this problem to get to this stage. DO NOT BUY.

    Wemo Motion

    • Written by from baltimore

I own (3) wemo switches and (2) light switches. They all work, after the second firmware update and 2nd version of the iPhone app.

HOWEVER, I recently tried the motion product and had to return it. It simply doesn't work. People must not be buying it because it's intermittent and doesn't stay connected or active in the app.

I tried my iPhone and my iPad.

I am really disappointed because I really needed the motion to work. Hope they keep working on it.

Hope this helps some of you.
