    Shortlived ruggedness

    • Written by from Oslo

I bought mine in the fall 2013. Today, after one year and nine months, it suddenly died on me (it doesn't show up any more on any of my three Macs).

Well, I guess I can still use it as as my LaCie RuggedKey-ring ...

Extremely Angered, Agitated and Would NOT Recommend.

After finishing a large project and presenting it, my teacher was so impressed, he wanted a copy. Not to mention, I had 2 whole semesters of work on the USB. When going to send it over, my drive appeared corrupted, and could not read or write to the drive. Got a new one from apple, and the same thing happened AGAIN. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. SAVE YOUR MONEY, AND YOUR TROUBLES.

Do not buy a LaCie Flash Drive!!

    • Written by from Warren

Cared for and handled very tenderly--this device has ceased to work for no apparent reason. There was no damaging event and I have just lost all the data from a year hand a half in a PhD program. Don't be the next victim to spend $60 to loose all of their data :(

    Extremely disappointed

    • Written by from Cortland

This drive was serving its purpose well for a couple months. Without warning, everything was gone. The storage space seems to be used, but none of my files are there. I plugged it in to a few other computers with the same result. Thankfully this drive was a "shuttle" between work and home, so minimal files were truly lost. Even so, it looks to have been a waste of money, deserving of no stars. Caveat emptor...

I've had nothing but great experiences with LaCie products, so I was looking forward to using this flash drive for a long time, especially because of its durability. It's been about three weeks since my original purchase, and I've had to return two of these drives because they've failed. I'm very careful with my drives, and I always make sure to eject them properly every time, but for some reason I've had two of these fail on me and I lost everything on both occasions. Very disappointed in this product, but I'm giving it another shot with a third drive. The only bright side was Apple's excellent customer service at two different stores and willingness to exchange these drives immediately. Hopefully the third time's the charm with this product.

    Stopped working after 2 weeks

    • Written by from Mountain View

It was only after my drive stopped working within two weeks of purchase that I read the reviews. The one-star reviews accurately reflect my experience. I had written data on the rugged drive. I then deleted the source. Walked over to the computer that I was going to copy it to, and then the drive was never recognized again. I tried about 3 different computers. It really did stop working.

If the drive actually works, only use it as a shuttle drive to immediately copy the data to another location. Don't delete the source data until you are sure that the data has been copied to another location.

The drive really is fast when it works.

I was able to exchange the drive for a similar model at the Apple store. I'm going to see how many weeks of usage I can get out of this one.

I'm not real thrilled with this product

    • Written by from Huntsville

I bought one in early 2013. It looked sleek and worked nicely at first. I carried it on my key chain. I really liked the fact that there was substantial metal holding it to the key chain. Many USB drives have flimsy plastic loops which quickly break.

But then the orange cover started slipping off and falling on the floor when I took my keys out of my pocket. Then the cover became lost for good back in October 2013. I just kept the bare metal part on my key chain. Yesterday I plugged it in to take a backup of files and it would not mount. I tried repeatedly with Disk Utility on my Mac without any success.

I'm sure the lack of cover didn't help but I've had several other USB sticks that worked fine for several years.

I have had two of these LaCie Flash Drives, and both stopped working after having worked fine for several weeks. Do not buy these.

Lost my data with this drive

This drive worked fine for the first 2 weeks, then completely failed and I lost some important data. Replaced the drive and the very next day it failed. Will never buy this again and I caution you against it. Use at your own risk.

    Poorly constructed

The LaCie brand is usually top notch and dependable. I purchased the thumb drive at the apple store when it came out. The tip of the USB drive that sticks out kinked on me and the drive broke. It is really sensitive and doesn't take that much pressure to bend. The files on the drive are gone and the drive is cooked. I would not recommend LaCie thumb drive, especially for the price. You can get more storage and a better built drive for a lot less.
