    Looks Amazing (almost)

    • Written by from West Vancouver

I bought one to back up my MacBook Pro and it worked smooth like silk. The style is also fitting. Only problems I had with it were the sharp edges (which could be worn away after years of use), the "PORSCHE DESIGN" letters got smudged somehow, I somehow got some chips along the edges (Aluminum is a soft material but still), and my slight OCD noticed that the light cut out was not parallel to the edge. Still a great drive though.

    Good now for 2 years

    • Written by from Miami

The problem with buying backup hard drives is they are not created equal and their inherent weak reliability seem to arise when you need them most. I bought my LaCie 1TB Porsche two years ago. I reformatted and partitioned the drive so it could backup both my Macbook pro and desktop mini. I have had to disconnect and connect from one computer to the other periodically backing up each. You're probably wondering why didn't I just one for each computer. I did this because I'm cheep and didn't want to spend too much money on something that may fail, as I have read in the trades. This little work horse has never let me down, yet. After two years my confidence is high so I will be buying another 1 TB LaCie Porsche design to avoid the trouble sharing the backup drive and also the fact is I need more space now. Hope I get another good one.

    Excellent Performance

Purchased the 3TB version and it works well with the late 2013 iMac 27 inch running latest Yosemite OS (10.10.3). Styling fits with the all aluminium finish. Quiet and super fast usb 3 performance. Partitioned 1TB for Time Machine and silently works away in the background with no issues. Top piece of kit for price.

    Failed When I Needed It

    • Written by from Wheat Ridge

I am not good with constantly backing up my computer, so when I lost my internal hard drive I figured I could plug in this drive, and use the most recent backup, only to find the drive didn't work. I've plugged it into 6 different computers, both PC and Mac, and the drive never shows up, meaning its dead. I would not recommend this product, I only used it a handful of times, it failed completely when I needed it, and of course its barely out of the warranty, so now I'm back to buy a different hard drive. Definitely not anything by LaCie though.

    Not reliable. Poor support

    • Written by from Airdrie

After almost a year I no longer was able to mount my 1TB Porsche external drive. After seeking help from Apple, LaCie, and online forums I was not able to fix whatever the problem was and lost all my data. The same thing happened with the 4TB Porsche external drive approximately 8 months after I purchased it. I lost months worth of work organizing my media library and adding all the metadata. This is the last LaCie product I am going to purchase.

    Cool, but frustrating

    • Written by from Toronto

I love the product, but it simply doesn't work...

although the cable is plugged in correctly it sporadically disconnects causing issues to my photo library causing me to repair the library and delays me from editing, adding or email my pictures while iPhoto repairs the library. the cable seems like the issue but it could be the connector in the hard drive. either way when i need it, it doesn't work. I would not recommend this product to my enemies.

    Not working at all

    • Written by from Rio de Janeiro

After 1 or 2 years this product was self disconnecting from my MacBookPro, saying that i had to eject the drive before disconnect. But I did nothing. It happened twice, losing all the work on iMovies. Now I connect and the MacBookPro does dot recognize it! The white light that should be blinking is now continuous and soft. After reading some reviews I see that I`m not the only one. It`s sad, because I bought in Brazil and I paid more than US$400,00 at the time with all the taxes!

    Excellent Drive

    • Written by from Agoura Hills

This drive is everything I want and need. Cannot wait to get the 2T drive soon. It works every time, it is quick, small, affordable and reliable. I have been using it for 3 years now and I have a back up for it as well.
I do not know what these other users problems with it are but I have had none whatsoever. I just want more of them.
    Best drive so far.

It looks really nice, started having problems from time to time that it wasn't recognized by my air book once it was plugged in. If I deleted a 1GB file, I didn't gain 1GB in memory on the drive. So now (16 months after my purchase) I have no memory left on the drive even though I've deleted most files.
Now I know to stay with the companies that specialize in storage / computer accessories - even though their products may not be as pretty as the others.

Sharp corners, worked for less than one year

    • Written by from Corvallis

I should have known that I shouldn't trust any company who would design a device with such sharp corners that it literally pains me to touch it.

I purchased this hard drive about a year ago for Time Machine backups and personal files storage. Last week, I did a Time Machine backup - worked fine, no issues. This week I plug in the drive and it is not reading on my Mac. The drive whirrs and lights up, buzzing away like normal but no response. I've tried different computers, no luck. I am extremely angry at this machine and now I will probably never be able to access my personal files again. Thanks a lot, La Cie.

This portable drive has yet to even glitch on me. It works great for on the go backups, and delivers exactly what's promised - high speed, excellent Mac compatibility and attractive, tough casing. I'm very pleased with it and feel that it's a great value.

Another surprisingly decent product from Lacie

    • Written by from Lynnwood

I'm a chimp for design, and LaCie is always convincing me to give them my money pretty much because of their designs. Going back a decade or more Lacie just keeps attracting me with their designs, and then charming me by being so reliable and consistently good. I've got a larger USB 2 LaCie drive that I've had since 2007 or so and is still running strong. It's a silly gold thing, but it's been a champ, which leads me to this "Porsche" designed little brick. When I say brick I mean brick, this is a rock solid little 1TB drive and it's been traveling with my Laptop for the last year or more without hitch. It's great looking, and thus far stone reliable.

Couple of irritations, The flat design will have it sliding all over whatever work-space you're at and it's not exactly nice to hold. The edges that give it that crisp look are not nice to touch. No the end of the world, but a thing.

So yeah over all just another solid product from Lacie working as advertised from the drop.

I've been using this drive for 6 months now and can't fault it. It's my daily carry for my Macbook so it gets a solid workout. It's quiet, doesn't overheat, well built and dependable.

    Best Product Ever!

I brought one of these LaCie hard drives so I could backup with Time Machine on my new Mac. It has been a great product for years. I have been very happy with this product. It works so seamlessly with Time Machine I don't have to do anything once I set it up to use Time Machine. I would highly recommend this product to anyone.

    A Near-Disaster

    • Written by from San Jose

I bought this external hard drive and relied on it, faithfully backing up my computer often. I had confidence that, should anything happen to my computer, at least I had the data backed up. Not so. Two days ago, I spilled a bit of liquid on my keyboard and had to replace my computer. This is bad enough, but when it came time to transfer the data from my LaCie, I was told that the data would not transfer because the LaCie had been "corrupted"! I brought my old, liquid damaged computer back to the Apple store and prayed that the hard drive was still functional. Thank God, they were able to transfer my data directly from my old hard drive to the new computer. If this had not been the case, I would have lost all my data! I will never use the Lacie product again! I will now use both a G-Drive and a Seagate Slim, backing up my computer routinely on both. Redundancy is key when protecting precious data!

Great portable hard drive with fast transfer speeds

    • Written by

This is a great portable drive. It's well built, and has a nice durable enclosure that holds the USB cord well in place, which makes it perfect to travel with. USB 3 is so much faster (compared to my old USB 2 drives), which I think is just great if you're carrying around anywhere near a terabyte of files. I've been using this drive for more than a year now and I think it's great for anyone looking for an external storage solution that is portable while still offering fast speeds.

    Not worth purchasing

    • Written by from Woodbridge

I purchased this device hoping to use it for a long time. Unfortunately not even a year, it is already giving me issues. It no longer mounts to my MBP. I have tried everything. It recognizes on a friends MB Air which I am currently backing up my data to another external HD (not LaCie) which works perfectly fine with my MBP. I contacted LaCie customer service, which I am still under warranty. They sent me a new cable (which the first cable was really loose) and the new cable (much better) but still the same issue - not recognizing it. I've been informed that they will send me a 2nd cable (Y cable) so the device can get more power. The whole point is being able to utilize my other ports for other things if necessary. Its not worth spending your money. Find a company who has high energy of power with their cable so you won't have this issue moving fwd.

    Unreliable Technology

    • Written by from Browntown

This mobile hard drive has been problematic from the start, and now it is no longer recognized by my Mac. I have to purchase a new external hard drive and hope that nothing happens to my laptop in the meantime because I will have to back up everything on the laptop again.. Apple needs to rethink selling this product.

    Don't hesitate to buy this.

At first I read the reviews for this hard drive before buying it. I read that the device crashed immediately and it was extremely loud. Despite all the negative reviews I read I purchased it to see for myself. I'll tell you I am not disappointed at all. I've had this drive for months now and it has gotten the job done. It hasn't crashed once and it's quieter than a butterfly. I recommend buying this drive.
