    Couldn't be happier..

    • Written by

I needed storage for my media and iTunes library, and this drive fitted the bill. It's large and fast, but most importantly for me it looks great. I'm a real fan of brushed aluminium look. It's also quiet, doesn't buzz or make annoying sounds and it doesn't overheat even after several hours of continuous work.

I purchased mine about a year or so ago and it worked fine in the beginning but now my Macbook Pro does not read the drive when I plug it into the USB port. The drive is whirling away as though it was working but nothing! Have to purchase a new drive to perform backups on and not really happy.

This was my second choice... I purchased a Seagate 1 TB hard drive prior, but it was a nightmare and didn't work well with my iMac.

This drive is a lot more compact and better design... also no issues at all with my iMac.
    Very satisfied.

Been through 2 LaCie P'9223's in one month!

    • Written by from Bethesda

My first LaCie P'9223 only lasted for seconds before it failed. Within a few hours I was back at the Apple Store to return the drive for another - figuring I just got a lemon. The seond P'9223 lasted about a month before it too suffered a mechanical failure. The drive is now back at LaCie who is trying to recover the data off the drive. They do not cover this in their warranty - and it can cost upwards of $1200 for data recovery. A third LaCie is on its way to me for free from the company (per the warranty), but I will not use it for any data that I can't live without.

    Avoid LaCie at all costs

    • Written by from seattle

I have had this drive for less than a month and it completely crashed. I bought it to store some photos on my lightroom catalog during a trip to Hawaii. After transferring the data onto the drive, the disk unmounted from my machine and can no longer be found. I've tried plugging it into different computers with no luck. It just makes a beeping noise. I went through all of the customer support steps with LaCie and they told me that I would have to PAY money to have it fixed. Customer support is terrible and the drives are cheap.

Avoid this company at all costs if you care about your data.

Had this hard drive for 4 months before it burnt out and left me hanging. Luckily I had an older hard drive running additional backups or I'd be lost. I also dislike how the cable connection is on the side close to the front of the drive as opposed to the back as you find with most other portable hard drives. This makes it hard to store/stack with other hard drives and you've got a loose cable sticking out the side.

Great design, really fast over USB3

    • Written by from Farmingdale

I really like this drive, I've had it for a few months and transfers are fast but without the crazy cost of Thunderbolt. Also, it's cross compatible to any computer with USB3, which can be important if you ever need to transfer files to/from a PC.

One minor nitpicky thing is that the metal casing, though very premium and solid, is a bit sharp. I actually ended up rounding the corners and edges a tiny bit with a file myself after realizing that normal wear and tear wasn't taking the edge off. Note to the designers for version 1.01: increase that fillet radius just a bit for us.

    Good backup drive

    • Written by

Really nice drive. Very easy to use. I plugged it in, it connected instantaneously. I've set it up with Time Machine and that was pretty much it. The first full backup was very fast over USB 3. The rest I don't even notice. The build quality is awesome, the enclosure perfectly complements the look of my MacBook Pro. The drive is also very quiet, and very durable.

    Excellent portable drive

    • Written by

I'd recommend this drive to anyone who travels often and needs to work with large files. I'm an amateur travel photographer and you can imagine just how much storage space I need. I've got two drives like this that I take with me on trips. It's usually enough to backup 7-10 days' worth of work. When I get home, I move the data across to my iMac and process it. USB 3.0 certainly helps. File transfers don't take much time anymore.

    Excellent Drive

    • Written by

When I was looking for a new portable drive, I was very happy to come across this item. It has an outstanding design. It's small, quiet, and very solid. It was basically plug and play. The speeds are excellent with USB 3.0. This drive is a treat for photography enthusiasts, it's great to through into your backpack to hold all of your photo libraries. LaCie did a great job in my opinion.

I bought this drive a few months ago and I must admit, I plugged it in, configured the backup settings and I haven't had to touch it since. It sits there and quietly does its work. It looks good too. Definitely a drive to recommend.

    Works great with my MBP

    • Written by from Dartmouth

Read some reviews on hard drives before I made my decision. Ended up going with a LaCie. Very happy with the product. I liked the price, the LOOK!, the storage capacity. It's USB powered which is always good. Very quite, even when the HDD is working. 4 sticky legs come in the package and you put them on each corner of the hard drive, so it's not actually sitting on the aluminum case but it appears to because the tiny squishy "legs" are probably about 1mm tall lol.. This adds to the cool effect I felt.

Lot's of pre loaded software. -Wuala an online storage/cloud service (5GB free), -works seamlessly with Time Machine, -also a program to partition what portion can be used with HTFS or Journaled great for people who use both OS X and Windows (Like me for school vs. me having a Mac at home), high security software to encrypt files on the LaCie, and more.

Can't go wrong with this. I suggest buying this because I feel the price is good for 1TB and the name, look, and extra software are the cherry on top

    Good drive

    • Written by

The drive worked out of the box and it's quicker than I thought it would be with USB 3. I've been using it with my MacBook Pro for almost a year now and haven't had any issues to date. There's lots of storage space available for my photographs and backups. Overall, I'm impressed.

    Awesome device, But....

    • Written by from Macungie

Ok, the look and operation of the drive is spot on with my mac book pro look. It's whisper quiet, sleek and low profile. A big must own for portable users from me... Now the con. The device has a Micro B input, and there are no Lightning to Micro USB cables out there. So for us non-USB 3.0 people (Mac Book Pro Lat 2011 for me) I have to either suffer with 2.0 speeds or come up with a lightning to USB adapter that will work for this.

    Looks great; won't last

    • Written by from San Francisco

Bought two of these drives—first one some 15 months ago; the second one a little over a year ago. They have received less than average use during this time. The first drive no longer mounts--tried it on my MBP 17 (early 2011), MBP Retina (spring 2013), and MBAir (fall 2013)--and is no longer recognized by Disk Utility (luckily I do weekly ups of all my external drives). Contacted LaCie support, and they first questioned that anything is wrong with the drive; after some back and forth they offered to replace it with a "refurbished" drive. I would have preferred a new drive, so I declined. The second drive is showing early signs of wear (based on DriveDX report and test), so I'm not holding my breath that this one will last much longer. Using G-Technology drives going forward (which in my office have proven to have better shelf-life than these LaCie drives).

    Great Product. Easy to use.

I'm very happy with this drive. It's nice and light and easy to take around with me whenever I travel. The added bonus is that it's powered by USB so not only do I get the added speed from the USB 3.0 but I don't have to carry a power pack either. It works like it's suppose to, and was a piece of cake to setup.
