I dont know if my drive is faulty or not but it is really noisy compared to what the reviewers are saying. I hear it spin up and down all the time. If it has been idle a long time and it spins up suddenly it makes this weird sound and the best way to describe it would be a old 56k modem. I think something is rubbing on a moving part of the drive. case maybe? Its the first day with the drive and im not impressed. Its pretty loud compared to my imac. The only thing good about it is compared to other 3.5 inch drives there is no fan noise from a fan. Yes its not as noisy as a drive with a tiny fan whirling at 5600rpms but quiet it is not.

Don't expect to use it on a wireless network

Works just fine when it's hard wired to my MacBook Air via USB, but when I wire it to my Airport Extreme (2nd Gen) and it won't stay mounted. I can connect initially, but after awhile it goes to sleep and the only way to connect is to unplug and restart it, which obviously isn't what I hoped to use this for. Maybe it's just Apple's way of forcing me to buy a Time Machine?
