    Excellent

I have had my HiRise for several months now, and it is easily one of the best productivity purchases I've made. There's not much to this stand, but in this case, less is more. The adjustability works as advertised, and is key to the usefulness of the stand. I have my MBP Retina 15'' exactly level with my 24" Asus ProArt monitor. (Note that the stand is not designed to be adjustable on the fly. You set it to the optimum height and leave it there.) Like the book arc also made by Twelve South, this thing is nice and heavy. It does not slide around on my desk. Unlike some other reviewers, I have had no problems whatsoever with the stand's grip. It holds my MBP very securely. It has never fallen or slid in any direction. A guess about other people's less positive experiences: maybe the stand is less secure with smaller laptops, like the MB Air, but I can't speak from personal experience.
The bottom line: for me, with a 15" Retina MBP, this stand, although expensive, has been worth it because it has allowed for a reliable and optimum desk setup, and I trust it to last as long or longer than the computer that sits on it.

Tip: if you are using this to replace a book arc, you might find that the book arc will have new life as a holder for your ipad. My ipad 4 fits it well enough to use for reading.

    A bit wobbly

    • Written by from reading

Thought I would chip in - just got mine today and yes it is slightly wobbly due to the spring mechanism in the main shaft part. No slippage whatsoever, it is very firmly in place and I have absolutely no worry of it coming off (I don't know how other users mac's were slipping down or if TwelveSouth have changed the product slightly). My advice would be that if you plan to get this stand for use with an external keyboard - go for it, it looks great and can adjust to your perfect height! However if you plan to type on the mac while it is on the stand, go elsewhere.

    Wobbly stand

    • Written by from Durham

I had a Rain stand before (and was very pleased with it) but I needed to buy one that would give me the ability to adjust the height. I bought the HiRise but the stand came defective right out of the box. The piece that attaches the arms to the base tilts to one side causing the computer to sit unevenly. There is no way for me to return the stand so I'm stuck with it (such a waste of money)! If I put the stand up side down, the computer is not titled as much but it tends to slide off of the stand and it doesn't get proper air flow under it. I do not recommend this stand at all.

    Works great with MBP 15"

I'm not sure what everyone elses issue is with slippage and wobbles. I use mine with a 15" MacBook Pro Retina and it's absolutely perfect at what it does.

    Up side down!

Ha, I was just as annoyed as many of the reviewers here about the mac slipping etc - turns out I´ve been using it upside down! Now it works perfectly and I have no complains... try it:)

    Fail

    • Written by from Arlington

I've had 2 work computers SLIDE OFF of this stand and LUCKILY fall in my chair vs. the floor. The rubberized area is NOT grippy enough. Ths happened with the computer was OPEN as well as being closed.

In addition, it's VERY unsturdy (wobbles).

I DO NOT recommend this product as a laptop stand.

    Returning, stand is wobbly.

    • Written by from Upper Tantallon

It's a very eye pleasing stand, but the leg portion was very wobbly for me. It caused one side of the stand to drop about a 1/4 inch, my macbook always hand a terrible slant to it.

    BEST stand! functional and gorgeous!

    • Written by from NEW YORK

this is a great stand for your macbook pro retina. i have owned it for about a year in my work office. i keep the mac open and closed, and it looks live its hovering over my desk. it opens up valuable real estate on my desk, and offers a space to slip items under the risen mac. never slips from the arms, as they have a secure rubber ribbed surface to keep it in place. i can open and close my mac, and it never wobbles. there are no unsightly "feet" holding it in place or anything to disturb the beauty and simplicity of the mac. i HIGHLY recommend it! MORE THAN FIVE STARS!

Ha! I've been using it upside down for 6 months. Laughed so hard when I turned it over that I just bought 6 more for my team.

It's a great stand, the grip is strong

Not sure what the 1 star reviews are even talking about. I picked up this stand at the Apple Store today and it is awesome. It grips my macbook very well. No complaints at all.

    Positive experience

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I don't usually write reviews, but I felt compelled to share my impression of this product because of all the negativity. I was initially very wary of purchasing because of the negative reviews, but after prolonged research for a laptop stand, this one was still the sleekest in design. I have no regrets buying this stand and have had absolutely no instances where my MBP has slid off of it. (Note: I own a 13" MBP.) I only hope people are removing their laptops before adjusting the height.

The materials are quality and the build is solid. I usually work with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, but have had no issues when typing on the MBP while it's on the stand. Only gripe is that I wish it could adjust a little higher.

    Terrible

    • Written by from aliso viejo

I bought this stand from the store cause it was the only one available. It worked just fine at first but now my laptop slides down and doesn't stay in place. I had this stand for almost 1.5 yrs and now its just sitting there as paper weight. Don't waste your money. Buy a different stand.

    Do Not Buy

This stand came defective out of the box. Adhesive strip on base of product was unglued from the base! Shoddy workmanship, even poorer quality control. Shameful that Apple sells this product.

Perfect for a MacBook Pro 13 (Retina)

    • Written by from Eden Prairie

I was unsure about this product based on all the negative reviews. But, since there was such polarizing reviews good and bad I figured I'd give it shot and make up my own mind. Glad I did, it works perfectly and as designed. The stand can be adjusted vertically based on your personal needs. I like the aluminum construction and Apple like design. The key to this product is to use it as a stand not as a docking station. Don't use or type on the MacBook when resting on the stand. The design keeps the bottom of the MacBook open and free for air movement to keep it cool. I would recommend this product if you use a second monitor, separate keyboard and mouse. Oh, the box the stand comes in is amazing too.

I'm buying a second one for my other office.

    • Written by from Burnsville

After 7 months of use at my home office I'm buying another one for my other office. I reviewed the other stands but this one helps preserve desk space by letting me slide papers under the elevated Mac. I am a tax accountant and often need to view a number of documents at one time. I don't know how the other people are using this stand but I have NEVER experienced ANY slippage or instability.

    Best design !

    • Written by from Henrico

There are lot of reviews which says it slips but I should say it does not. It fits perfectly and get the right grip for Macbook Pro. Cool design. The only thing I did not like is spring which is used for raising your Mac. I think spring quality is not that good but unless it lasts good it should not be a problem. I will recommend this product. Also the price is little high. Ideally its worth under $60.
Anyways anyone looking for minimal and cool design this is the product. I will give four and half star.

My macbook stays pretty safe without any slide. I am personally very much satisfied with this product and would highly recommend it.

    Not Stable or Level

    • Written by from Atlanta

I love the look of this stand, however my 15" MBP wobbles and is not level. The screen is tilts no matter how I adjust the piston or the position of my laptop. Pretty disappointed. Will return and try another brand.
