Am a sparetime DJ using MacbookPro together with a MIDI DJ Controller. MacBook does awsome job. In order to give the MacBook some more protection, I decided to buy this Case. Without dropping the MacBook for whatever reason I notice cracks in the case. It also didn't fit as snug as I would expect, so it easily comes out if you grap it by the sides to move it from one place to the other. It easily shows all kinds of stuff like fingerprints, dust whatever. DOn't mind as much as I bought it for protection but the MacBook itself doesn't show spots as fast.

    Causes PERMANET dammage to mac!

    • Written by from Midland

These cases are wonderfull looking cases and are very sturdy; However i had my brand new mac in on of these cases since it was bought and my mac was at stationary on a desk and after about 2 months of use, i took my mac out of the case to clean it and found deep scratches where the case held on to the computer. The scratches are fairly deep and will not come out. I do not recommend this case to anyone while it may look good it is not a quality case!

Were the best, now the worst

I have been using Speck cases for years, literally and have always been amazed at how sturdy they were and how long they lasted.

I am now on my 3rd one (not even replaced free) and this has cracked after just two weeks. My wife has a case for an Air and it is the same issue.

Bottom line is that they are no longer any use at all and I will shift to another brand instead.

    Very disappointed.

I have a mid-2013 Macbook Air and it seems that the stress my speck case puts on the hinge has caused damage to the display cable and repairing it will costs hundreds. Do not put a case on the lid, only the bottom of the laptop if you must.

    Great case!

    • Written by from OSHAWA

I had one of these cases for 3 years and loved it. It finally got cracked in the corner of the top lid, so I replaced it with a glossy one of a different brand. Less than a year later, it is cracked, too. So the grippy case held up a lot better to my normal wear and tear.
I miss the grippy feel of the lid and bottom, and will be going back to this model of case. I find the matte finish looks a lot nicer than the glossy finish, as long as you don't get greasy fingerprints on it.
Overall, a great case, and worth the money to protect my computer.

    Great Case

    • Written by from Calgary

I bought this case not too long after getting my computer in 2012, I still have one but will be purchasing a new one. Unlike others the dust that gets in-between the case I don't have scratches. Of course you are going to get dust and dirt after months of having it on but I haven't had any scratches on my computer. Only complaint is the pieces that hold it on, they last for awhile but do snap off after time. Great product, currently going to order a new one because its time- especially after peeling off all the stickers I had on it.

The bottom connector broke off right away, it still stays on but it bothers me a little bit. Also, the top part of it scratched really easily in my bag and left white scratch marks that I tried really hard to rub off but they're still there. It's okay though overall.

    BEST 50 bucks EVER

    • Written by from Atlanta

All the complaints about clips breaking off and Macs being more scratched than without a case seem pretty unwarranted to me. If you put a cell phone in a case and never remove it to clean underneath, you'll have micro-scratches on your phone. The same holds true for this case and your Mac. It's nothing more than a giant snap-on phone case. It isn't intended to keep your Mac flawless, it's intended to prevent major scratches compared to never keeping your Mac in a case to begin with. We've all seen what other people's Macs look like when they are never cased and the difference is night and day.

What's prompting me to write this review today? I'm about to replace my cover after FOUR YEARS of use. Other than hardly noticeable micro-scratches, my 2010 Macbook Pro looks almost new. All the clips on the top cover are still intact and only because recently the two back clips on the bottom finally broke (that happens when you tote a piece of plastic around for FOUR YEARS) am I replacing with the exact same product.

If you're not willing to realistically compare a $50 investment to protect a $1200-$2000 purchase, you probably shouldn't be looking at a hard, snug, snap-on case to begin with. A nice, soft carry bag is probably the best thing for you.

    Best case on the market!

    • Written by from SAN DIEGO

I bought mine years ago and my MacBook looks brand new. Maybe it's a San Diego thing, but all of my friends (including myself) have always have both a shell and a sleeve for our MacBooks -- they work together to really protect your investment, especially keeping dirt and dust from getting under the case.

    Really great-looking case!

    • Written by from Anchorage

This case is the only case I wanted and looked for when I bought my MacBook Pro. Now, everyone must know that hardshell cases (on anything; iPhone, iPad, laptop, etc.) tend to scratch the product.. BUT many people know that when using a hardshell case, you MUST clean it once in a while. I clean mine once every month and my MacBook Pro looks just as new! No scratches and no bumps.

If you want to buy this case and snap it on your laptop, make sure that you know how to take care of it! Don't buy stuff that you don't know about.

    Not Worth Fifty Dollars

    • Written by from Paris

I bought this case with my computer and I clean the laptop regularly like someone with OCD. but the case does leave marks. I doesn't just leave marks on the sides where it attaches but also underneath the case. I don't think its just dirt. I would rather have the clear case.

    NOT a waste of money

    • Written by from La Habra

Take those two negative reviews complaining about surface scratches/cosmetic damage to their laptops with a grain of salt because it sounds like they didn't read the simple instructions on the packaging: "Gently clean your MacBook Pro before using the case to remove all dirt/debris or sand from the outside surface of your MacBook Pro" and then "Every month, remove the case from your MacBook Pro to clean under the case. This prevents the build up of unwanted debris between the surface of the MacBook Pro and case that could potentially scratch the MacBook Pro."

    Good shell but be realistic

    • Written by from Orlando

This is probably the best hard shell you can buy for your macbook but before you buy consider.....
    -snaps on easily,
-protects the the exterior of your precious new macbook from getting scratches,
    -comes in black
    -makes your laptop more identfiable/unique
-good tactile feel (not as good as brushed aluminum but still good)
    -comes in black
    -very tight fit
-comes in black.... which is the color you should always bet on

    - It can be hard to remove and doing so will likely ruin the snaps which hold it tight to your laptop,
-doesn't protect from dust so you really need to buy a sleeve anyway,
-the plastic acts as an insulator so your macbook won't release as much heat as it would without a case (not too big a deal except during prolonged use)
-doesn't offer any shockproofing functionality, but then again macbooks are like infants in that you just don't drop them..... don't.... seriously.

Truthful review without an over the top response.

    • Written by from worthington

This cover is just what you expect it to be: a thin plastic shell to encase your macbook. It's not a set of battle armor. It does NOT damage your laptop. YOU might if you don't occasionally clean your computer and take PROPER care of it, but that is not the fault of this case. It's hard black plastic with a rubberized texture. You can see your apple glowing ever so faintly and it looks a little purpley pink because of the black case. It snaps on fine. And I've had it for a couple of months without the clips breaking off because I do not take the case off and put it back on over and over again, that would, of course, compromise the integrity of the product. Other than that I LOVE that it covers the metal because it means my laptop never gets too hot or too cold. It doesn't cover up the fans which is a bonus ( don't want that laptop you barely care for to overheat.) It's a nice solid color but does get smudgy (this bugs me but would happen with or without any case.) Other than that it's nice if you want to change the look of a titanium case mac and it's great if you want to put decals or stickers on but don't want the commitment.

Worth it. Don''t believe the negative remarks.

    • Written by from Fayetteville

In all honesty, I bought this to HIDE my first (and only) scratch on the cover of my MBP. If you occassionally remove it and clean the dust, I can't see how it could possibly make things worse for you. (My guess is that some folks on here are way too rough with their $1000+ machines. I've had it for over 2 years and--other than the initial scratch before having the case--my laptop literally looks brand new. My only gripe is that a couple of the clips where the computer snaps in actually bent and broke when removing it.

    Damaged laptop

    • Written by from Aalborg

    I cannot recommend this product.

It damaged my laptop with scratches from the dirt that got caught inbetween the cover and the laptop. Also, the hinge that holds the screen got damaged because of the cover. If possible I would rate this product with zero stars.

    Great Case!

    • Written by from Irvine

I love this case! Keeps my mac scratch free and inconspicuous in public. The texture also makes for slip-free handling. To all the negative reviews regarding scratching, the box the case comes in says to take the cover off once a month and clean the build up of dust and small particles... if you follow these simple directions (takes less than 5 minutes), scratching will not occur.
