    pleased

    • Written by from Northport

This mouse really blew me away. For years my arm has been getting more and more uncomfortable when I do my graphics work. I thought it is just a normal consequence of using a computer all day long and maybe I have to accept it. Then I saw this Vertical Mouse. At first I thought it is too weird, but I was getting desperate for a solution so I got one to try. It came in a cheap box but the product looks well made. It connected via Bluetooth and I downloaded the software. The setup went smoothly. At first the grip position felt strange but I got used to it in a couple days. Amazingly my arm felt more relaxed almost immediately. It has only been a week but the tension is mostly gone and I continue to feel better. I even like the styling now. I'm so glad I got this thing!

    Bluetooth functionality very suspect

    • Written by from Lincroft

I was really hoping to like this mouse as I needed something to combat my severe carpal tunnel. Although I would say it is comfortable, although takes some getting used to, there are a couple of issues that make this mouse almost unusable.

    1. It has bluetooth connection issues. Basically if you leave it on all the time as I always did with my Magic Mouse it goes to sleep. If you then try to wake it (by clicking on its buttons), it sometimes wakes and frequently doesn't. Turning it off and then is only sometimes solves this problem.

    2. Randomly it will start "stuttering" across my second monitor (the main one) and again I need to turn it off and on again.

Due to these issues I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

I love the look, design, feel and overall comfort this Evoluent Mac mouse offers!
I've worked in an office at a desk on the computer for 15 years and I wish I had
    been using this all along!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this mouse because it is easy to use, super comfortable and
has a lot of features that other input devices don't.

    Mouse Yes - Bluetooth No...

    • Written by from Sechelt

The ergonomic/programable aspects of this mouse are outstanding. However, after two hours I returned my Bluetooth version of this mouse and purchased the alternate wireless version from another online vendor.
Like so many other reviewers of the Bluetooth version of this mouse, I experienced significant, annoying connection problems. The continuous "on-again off-again" Bluetooth connection was simply too disruptive to my workflow.
The mouse feels absolutely great in my hand and I appreciate the several programable buttons and the easy to use settings.
I read somewhere that the Bluetooth circuits may have been recently improved, so perhaps I received a slightly older version of this mouse; the one I received was in definite need of Bluetooth improvement!
I do highly recommend this ergonomic mouse - just not the Bluetooth version, unless it has since been improved.
I give the ergonomic/programable aspects five stars and the Bluetooth circuits one star - for a combined average of three stars.

Don't buy it, don't pay attention to paid reviews

    • Written by from Toronto

I bought this from the Apple retail store, worked great for the first few weeks. After that the battery kept dying within days. I needed to change the battery even after minimal use for a day to two, and it wouldn't get any better. I used alkaline (duracell), as indicated by the manufacturer.

Don't buy it, you will regret it. I still use a logitech wireless mouse with 2X AA batteries. It lasts for 3-5 months, with daily use. Been using it for the past four years.

Bluetooth implementation leaves a LOT to be desired

    • Written by from Denver

For wrist stress reasons, I have both an Apple Trackpad and a Vertical Mouse 4 sitting on either side of my MacBook Pro at work. They both connect via Bluetooth, but while the trackpad is always connected and ready to work, the VM4 is usually disconnected and frustrating. Sometimes it will reconnect after moving it around and/or clicking buttons. But other times I have to set it up again in the Bluetooth control panel.

Apparently they only use one battery for weight reasons, and so they aggressively turn off the Bluetooth radio to save battery. I would *much* rather run the battery down faster and have the mouse stay more reliably connected. I have an Apple battery charger, so swapping batteries is no big deal.

Think twice before ordering this mouse. The Bluetooth disconnects will drive you nuts. Evoluent has wired USB mice on their own website that work perfectly with a Mac. I have one of them at home, and it's great. I wish I had gotten that version at work too.

    Great mouse, but has problems...

    • Written by from Schaumburg

The overall concept of this product is fantastic. It is by far the most comfortable and customizable mouse I have ever used. I had no problems installing the software and pairing it with my iMac. However, after a couple of days of heavy use, I am very frustrated. As other reviewers have stated, the Bluetooth implementation of this product has serious issues. The mouse will disconnect after only a FEW SECONDS of inactivity and I have to really mess around with the buttons and move it around to reestablish a connection. Moreover, there have been many times when I have not even been touching the mouse and it will disconnect and then reconnect on its own. I have visited Evoluent's web site and their support page states that "after 8 minutes the mouse will automatically disconnect to save battery life." If only that were true! There have been too many disconnects for this to be a useful device to use. I am sending this model back and getting the wired version. The mouse itself is world class, but the Bluetooth wireless version needs a LOT more work to make it reliable.

    Do not purchase Bluetooth version

    • Written by from San Francisco

I had been a huge fan of Evoluent mice. I bought many of them over the years for various companies and offices. The shape helped me fix my carpal tunnel issues.

I cannot recommend the Bluetooth version of their mouse. Do not buy it. And I can no longer recommend the company.

First, the mouse: the battery on mine dies every few days. The company claims that the battery should last three months, but this is not the case in my experience.

Worse, the company: I have tried to get a warranty replacement for my Bluetooth mouse with no success. The back and forth and number of hoops is disappointing for a "high-end" mouse. I decided to move on and take my business elsewhere.

There are other vertical mice out there for less money... one of which I use now and like. I suggest you keep searching; this mouse is not the one.

Best mouse I have ever owned!

    • Written by from Arlington

I have been using three versions of the Evoluent mouse now, and I have to say this is absolutely the most comfortable mouse I have ever used and owned. Paired with my Kinesis Advantage keyboard (kinesis-ergo -dot- com/advantage.htm), you can't get a better mouse and keyboard combination! The mouse (and keyboard, for that matter) takes about a week to get used to, so be patient and give yourself time to get adjusted. Once you do, you'll never go back!

I do miss the free-floating scroll wheel of the Logitech MX Revolution mouse, however, it's absolutely worth the sacrifice for the overall comfort factor.

Do not buy the wireless model

    • Written by from Brno

...unless you don't even mind to throw hundred bugs away for a piece of HW that stops working after half a year. The mini receiver is made in china and becomes defective because of the internal stuff malfunction The one of mine was kept in room conditions all the time, so there was no reason for its malfunction - still it died, I mean it is not identified nor on Mac nor on Win7 notebook. It's a terrible situation, since the mouse shape is really well designed!

    Keeps getting better

    • Written by from Victoria

I've been using the Evoluent vertical mice for about 7 years, since V2 and they just keep making them better. I have been hoping for a bluetooth version for a while and was ecstatic that they finally made one with V4 and as well as a mac native driver. I would highly recommend this mouse for anyone with carpal tunnel problems.

Evoluent Vertical Blue-Tooth Mouse 4 for Mac (Right-hand)

    • Written by from Luzern

This mouse is the third Evoluent I have bought and used. I was so pleased with the first two. One with cable, the other with wireless. I found them so perfect that I doubt I would change the style. However, the Blue-tooth model I bought from Apple a couple of months ago is just dreadful. It only works correctly for about four minutes before I must turn it off and on to get it going again. I have also used a battery every four days on average.

The first two I purchased were of poor quality manufacture but I can live with that provided they do the job Evoluent promises. I have also turned every Blue-Tooth apparat I own OFF to make sure there is no interference causing the problem. If Evoluent were to send me a cable connected mouse in exchange for this one I would be delighted to continue using their products. But not with Blue-Tooth. An absolute waste of my money but even more frustrating.

    bluetooth problems

    • Written by from Midway

Don't buy this. The mouse tracking becomes sluggish and unusable requiring you to turn the device off then back on, which temporarily fixes it, but it just recurs. I'll be sending mine back Monday. This is known issue with evoluent with no fix provided. I assume this is a bluetooth issue, but I'm not sure.

    Comfortable design, terrible quality... disappointing

    • Written by from Avon

I have a wireless VM4 and a wired VM4 and both are malfunctioning. The wireless VM4 will not connect and the wired VM4's buttons fail to register clicks, making it useless. I made a mistake buying the first one, I was an idiot for buying the second one. Too bad because the vertical design is indeed more comfortable in long term use. If you don't mind spending $100 every year to replace your broken Evoluent vertical mouse, maybe this product is for you. I cannot recommend it otherwise. Oh, the glossy finish is not so great either. If this mouse were sturdy and well built with a level of quality that matched its price, and if the wireless version worked reliably, and if the materials were subdued and durable... maybe I would try again. But maybe I am just a fool.

    Mouse great - bluetooth... read.

    • Written by from Los Angeles

First to address all the bluetooth problems..
I got the bluetooth version and thinking how I am very tech savvy I would be able to solve any problems with bluetooth that other people had. Didn't happen. The problem is with Apple, not with this mouse and there is nothing that can be done (unless Apple does something).
On the up side - Evoluent customer support is beyond amazing and they were quick to send me a new mouse (2x times! - first time I wanted to make sure it's not the mouse but bluetooth, second time they sent me the dongle version - which now works flawlessly).

As for the mouse - I think that like all ergonomically things it is individual, what works for whom. For me it works great.
I would highly recommend trying this mouse to see if it helps you.
Other than that - the overall impression is that the mouse is sturdy and very well made.

Great design, horrible blue tooth connection

    • Written by from Cardiff by the Sea

I would give it 5 stars if I did not loose the connection after just 2-3 minutes of inactivity (not 8 as the manufacturer says)). It then takes up to one whole minute to reconnect. Sometimes it does not reconnect for hours and all of sudden starts working again. You never know if it is because the battery is dead because the light that is supposed to be blinking when battery is low never blinks. Also sometimes the mouse is connected but the right click function does not work whereas the other functions work. I contacted the manufacturer's help desk once and they were not very helpful. This is a very expensive mouse and I was expecting so much better....
