Great sound, but the jack is prone to breaking

    • Written by from Bothell

I've burned through 3 pairs of these headphones and have had the exact same issue for all 3 pairs. The headphone jack is extremely long (from the end point that goes into the phone to the end of the "base" where the wiring takes over). As such, if you bend wrong with the phone in your pocket, the headphone jack just bends/breaks off. Boom.

I guess you could see my enthusiasm for the audio quality of these headphones since I proceeded to get them twice more (all three breaking the same way, and within 3 months of getting them new). But for $130, I expect to be able to use them for a much longer time.

Shame that it took three times before I figured it out (fool me... thrice?), but I'll no longer look to RHA for my audio needs.

Exceptional sound for the money but...

    • Written by from Inverness

I have a pair and bought a pair for my son.
Son has the second pair that lost sound in the right speaker.
If it failed once I would rate them as five stars for the $ because Apple store did take first pair back.
Just can't deal with a product that failed twice in six months.

Great earphones---Blows Beats and others away

    • Written by from Los Angeles

Bought the much more expensive Beats earphones. Great packaging, but that's all. Awful sound with much distortion. Returned them

Then bought the RHA's. So nice. Total quality. Wonderful sound and great isolation, perfect for use on planes.

    Get them.

    So so

    • Written by from OAKLAND

The sound quality is good enough but it's too confusing to put on, too heavy, and the cord is too long. I do not recommend this for walking down the street or exercising in. It's too discomforting.

It also has about 16 different ear hole sizers (and I swear tuh yah, they look like they are all EXACTLY the same size) and supposedly one is supposed to be perfect for your ear.

    Too confusing.

Incredible sound! A great fit for every genre of music!

    • Written by from West Columbia

I tried sets up to $400 and obsessively researched, listened, borrowed, bought, returned, gave up, started the process again, pulled my hair out, then found RHA? What was this? They turned out to be THE answer! I purchased them and everything about them screamed QUALITY! The build, sound and mic are all hands down top notch. I'm sure there are a pair of $1,200 headphones out there that would impress me more but in the under $400 I couldn't find a competitor. I'll admit that you have to find the right set of buds but they provide an array of various types. It took me some time but after finding my match it was THE breakthrough moment.
If you want great sound, quality construction by a company that backs their products and not HYPE then these were what I found after an exhaustive search.

    Great Ear-buds!

    • Written by from Willow Springs

I had been in search of a great sounding pair of in-ear headphones that would fit comfortably for quite some time. I had tried the Bose IE2, Monster Isport and Audio Technica ANC-33i amongst others but could not find the combination of quality sound and fit that I was looking for until now. The RHA MA750i are the best sounding, most comfortable in-ear headphones I have owned! The bass is full but not over powering while the mid/high tones are clear. The over the ear fit is surprisingly comfortable and does not bother me even after wearing them for several hours at a time. I will say that finding the right fit for the ear-bud could take a little time with all the different sizes offered but once you do the sound is amazing. I definitely recommend these to anyone looking for audiophile sound without the audiophile price.

    Wow!

    • Written by from terrebonne

I already own good over ear Ultrasone HiFi 450 for my needs.
I was looking for some good in ear and read a lot about these RHA MA 750i.
Couldn't been more happier with these.
At first you have to try out the right ear cushion and choose your music to try them out.
Once these steps are done you are enjoying nice european sound:clear, well balanced and well delivered through these RHA.
My musical tastes are ranging in most part in jazz and classical but classic rock groups like Supertramp,Pink Floyd, Steely Dan and other.
I tried them also with my iPhone 4s and the Onkyo app for hi res music such as Flac.
Frankly, for the price, design and well rounded sound you couldn't be much happier with these!

    Great sound, questionable construction

    • Written by from San Francisco

First of all, these sound amazing. And with a whole rack of different tips, getting the right fit (and better sound) is no problem.

Now the bad. The over-the-ear design does seem to improve sound quality a bit, as it keeps them from knocking around too much, which can send audible noise up the line to your ears. However, the stiff curve to this part of the cord (right at the ear) does make them a bit annoying to deal with physically. They try to hook onto things if, for example, you have one hanging off your ear to deal with the outside world (use case: getting on the bus, asking the driver a question, pull one side out so you can hear - curved cable end will try to hook onto your backpack, or your sleeve, etc). Not a huge deal but can get irritating.

Now the really bad. After about 6 months of light daily use, being kept in their case at all times when not in use, and generally being very well taken care of, the connection between the mic/controls and the upper portion of the cable has completely broken. The outer sheath is still attached, but the inner wire has clearly pulled free from the control. No more sound in right ear, no more mic, no more controls.

And on a related note, i found over time that the buttons on the control unit became a bit finicky. Specifically, it seems like they don't sit in their casing as precisely straight as before, so sometimes clicking a button wouldn't register, or would register as volume up instead of pause, etc.

So i think basically the really pretty, industrially-styled control unit is the weak link here.

Fortunately these have a 3 year warranty, so KEEP YOUR RECEIPT!

    Much Better Than the Competition!

    • Written by from Augusta

Coming from a family of musicians I have had the opportunity to try and own many different headphones, both in-ear and over the ear designs. In addition, I worked for a company (that shall remained unnamed) that sold many high quality headphones and was able to try most of them while employed (e.g., Bose, Klipsch, B&W, beats, etc).

Bottom line, there is not a better headphone in this price range. Fantastic quality, large number of included buds (which is essential to getting the right fit and sound isolation), fantastic drivers, and intuitive mic controls.

Buy them! You won't be disappointed!!!

    Great sound and great service

    • Written by from New York

I was very pleased with the fit and build off these headphones. After I found the right size ear tips from the wide selection provided, the sound was really amazing. I had an issue with the cord being a bit weak around the volume control and after contacting RHA they sent me a new pair. Great fit and sound and great customer service!

Pretty good, but need time to "break in"

    • Written by from Saddle Brook

I was kind of hesitant to buy these, because of the mixed online reviews.

I came to the Apple Store thinking about buying the B&O's BeoPlay H3, but since there weren't any available there, I decided to give the RHA a try.

Boy, I'm glad I did! The reviews for BeoPlay H3 have all said the bass was lacking. The RHA's got it in droves! And not just the bass - the whole range is very good! There's a slight dip in the upper highs, but other than that - I'd say it's very close to perfection.

Having said that, initially I wasn't that impressed. The problem is, right out of the box they sound pretty average. But after a while they break in and the sound gets A LOT better! I have to agree with the HeadFi's assessment: these earphones DO sound amazing, but it might take up to a full week of constant use for them to reach their full potential. Once they're there - you'll find yourself re-listening to your entire music library, discovering something new in every track you have - sonething you haven't heard before.

Some reviews say that the low-quality tracks sound pretty bad. Yes, they do. There's a reason for that: these earphones don't add anything to the sound, so you hear it exactly the way it's supposed to sound! And that's a good thing!

    Best headphones ever!

    • Written by from Willow Grove

I have tried a number of headphones and these are the best I've tried! And I've tried many brands, various price ranges....these are my favorite! I highly recommend them to everyone that wants a quality experience when using your Apple products either in the gym, at home or on long car rides. I've bought this model for friends and family and everyone has very impressed with the quality and precise audio. My one hesitation when I first used these was the over-the-ear design. But then I read about why it's designed that way (I believe it's to reduce noise/sound cords make when you're active). And since I'm at the gym often and am in love with the idea that these noise-isolating headphones allow me to slip in my own world with my iPhone or iPad....life is good. The bonus was the thick cords. Why so thick? To reduce tangling. Genius!

    High Quality, Excellent Value

    • Written by from Chicago

Although there are less expensive options these are well worth the price. Setting aside the sound quality (which is excellent but is also subjective) they are heavy-gauge stainless steel, the cabling is robust and extremely low contact-noise (when you brush the cable with your hand or shirt and hear it in your ear...these don't do that), it comes with a decent case AND a whole assortment of ear-bud cups to help you get the right fit. Take your time and try them, it's worth it. The behind-the-ear cabling is really nice (my first pair that do this) and it seats the earbuds perfectly in my ears.

The unexpected surprise is how effectively these shield outside noise. I really didn't think too much about it until I took them off and realized how noisy my office was...the music wasn't loud at all but I could not hear anybody's phone conversation. Remarkable.

The sound quality for phone calls is also excellent.

Who actually gave these 5-Stars? Headphones a "Fail" for me.

    • Written by from Leicester

I chose these headphones (with integrated mic for phone calls) because of the 5-Star review they got. And, my experience with them was far from 5-stars! I gave 2 stars (vs only 1) because they do actually seem to be made with high quality materials and, if you might actually get them to fit in your ears, it seems they would sound great. But, that is where the fail comes in for me....

    1) I tried every ear piece that came with these headphones, read their silly directions about "how to properly place these in your ears" several times, and nothing worked for my ears. I was quite surprised at how difficult it was to get these headphones to both stay in your ears and fit "the way they are supposed to". You would think that a pair of headphones as expensive as this would have figured this out!? I mean is this really rocket science? Wearing a set of headphones? Not sure whose ears they fit in, but they were not mine. Because the ear pieces kept falling out I found them quite uncomfortable as, no matter what ear piece I tried, I was forced to keep pushing them back in my ear to get them to stay.

    2) Because these headphones were not easy to fit in my ear the way they are "supposed to be", the sound was what I consider to be terrible. If you do not have these headphones jammed deeply into your ear or with a perfect fit to whatever the manufacturer designed as "a perfect fit", you are going to loose all of the base in the sound. So 95% of the time (after the first 10 seconds after jamming the headset deeply into my ear and then started to fall out), the sound was uncomfortably only reflecting mid and especially higher frequencies. No low frequencies. I basically could not use these most of the time I wanted to.

    3) The over the ear piece is made of flexible rubber which would not easily actually stay over you ear - then what's the point? So I again found these headphones to be clunky in trying to get them on your ears (definitely not for a quick phone call or for what I consider to be every day applications) and they were certainly not easy to actually keep in place on my head for every day practical use.

So either I have some strange alien ears over here (don't think so) or RHA needs to go back to the drawing board on these.
On that note, hoping this review might actually be helpful for some folks, I am an male that is 5" 5' (on the shorter side of most American Men) and would consider myself average to stocky build. I have been a musician and into sound engineering most of my life so my ears are beautifully perfect for my body type. So, who knows, maybe these headphones were made for giant people? Not sure what the deal is but, again, these headphones were a huge disappointment for me.

This item was returned to Apple after a couple of weeks of trying to make them work.

Best I've Auditioned In This Price Class

    • Written by from San Francisco

Got these to replace RHA's 600i buds - which I *hated*. Fortunately these share none of the junior model's shortcomings. They have strong, deep, accurate bass, a flat, pleasant midrange and reasonable treble extension, although at noticeably reduced levels. The result is a warm, natural soundstage with just enough of the extreme high-end to provide some necessary detail and sense of space.

The fit is good, although not perfect. I find the buds do pop out after awhile, even after trying many different size ear pieces. I miss the old Klipsch buds I had in that regard - they were lighter and their oval-shaped silicone tips were better at staying in-place and sealed. The build quality of the 750i seems exceptional, though - time will tell.

    Sound perfection at amazing price!!!

    • Written by from Glasgow

After reading several reviews on internet, i bought these earbuds... In the beginning, they were harsh to ears... But as several pro reviews states, let them break-in... And voila, what a sound (after alot of hours of idle playing, maybe 60hrs or so)...

Overall, they have a very wide, open and detailed sound... Happy to own this amazing product at a really good price with exceptional build quality...

    Amazing Sound and Extremely Comfortable!

    • Written by from Fort worth

I was hesitant to buy these due to the price, I listen to music everyday and let me tell you the sound is crisp, and clean there not like Beats where all you hear is bass. With these you can hear everything the artist wanted you to hear when there song was created, now don't get me wrong they can THUMP if there is bass in the song. I would HIGHLY recommend these to anyone looking for a nice everyday pair of headphones.
