    Why so many bad reviews?

    • Written by from Wilmington

I will grant you, it isn't the "easiest" shell to apply. Just take your time. Pay attention to where the grip points are on the case so you know exactly where to apply pressure. Again, go slow. You'll click one side in and another part might pop out. That's ok! You'll get the hang of how to get them all clicked and covering the computer. Once they're on, it's the perfect shell for the Air. You never have to worry about all those incidental scratches that make the soft aluminum look terrible over time. The rubberized feet give it the perfect amount of lift for typing.

I do NOT work for Speck, btw. My college-age daughter has had one for a while. I read all these reviews, asked her if it was bad, and she said she loves it. I do too.

I want a refund. Do not purchase!!

    • Written by from Elgin

I bought a Macbook Air 13 inch to get ready for college. While at the Apple store, I saw the Speck satin case and I thought it look nice in black and would protect my Macbook from everyday scratches. I have had many Speck cases in the past and had a level of quality that I associated with Speck. After a 3-4 weeks of having this case the bottom part started becoming loose. When I took off the case I noticed light dots on the bottom inside of the case. I tried everything to take it off (soap, windex, scrubbing) but they would not go away. The left bottom part of the case won't snap on and the little prong broke. There is a little gap that will not snap or stay but right in front of the touch pad. This was not worth the $50 it costs. The quality of the product is not what I expected. I'm a college student and I'm out $50 on a garbage shell case. Apple should discontinue this case for the Macbook Air 13 inch.

    Not worth $10

I bought this at the start of September - by now, the bottom part is completely gone. It was falling off within the first month. The top is also broken. Not sure how they get away with charging $50 for a product as bad as this one.

Does not fit as well on the bottom as the one I have on my 2011 11" MBA

    • Written by from High Point

There is an annoying gap right under the notch below the trackpad on the bottom piece. Occasionally it snags on objects in my bag and pulls it loose on one side. The one on my 11" MBA has been flawless so this version is a disappointment.

    Good idea, poor implementation)

First I was very happy with look & feel of black one: both color and softouch feeling reminded me of my old black macbook 2007. Unfortunately it brings all the negative sides of old plastic macbook: increased weight, loose feeling in the bottom half - not enough clips to hold it tight. Also not sure about cooling: on the one hand now you won't reach hot surface any more, on the other - it may reduce cooling efficiency

    Works good - Too Heavy

    • Written by from Phoenix

I bought this case hoping to protect my MacBook and it does that well. However it seems like it triples the weight of the MacBook one it is on. Sadly I don't use it any longer and I'm pretty sure Apple won't return it because I don't have the original package it came in. I left in the hotel on a business trip. If you're not worried about weight, then this case does what it should.

    Works great, looks great!

I purchased this case to protect my MacBook Air and not only does it give me piece of mind when traveling, but it also looks and feels wonderful. The soft satin touch isn't like the regular plastic shells, it's a more textured feel which give me better grip on my computer when holding it. It's also protective, and I feel my computer is safe from everyday bumps and knocks because this case is literally always covering it. Add all that to the sleek black look which is still transparent enough to see the Apple logo light up, and this is probably one of the best cases I've ever purchased!

The clips break off after a few months of use. I would not recommend this case. The quality is not worth the price.

    Works like a charm

I bought the glossy hard case for my first macbook and it lasted for years. Second time around I went with this satin case and I like the grippy feel. It snaps on easily and does what it's supposed to, nothing broke but then again; I do not plan to take my case off and on. I only wish they made a clear-satin case.

    Poor Quality

Although it feels nice, and looks good, this case is made of very weak material. After just a few months of gental use it started to crack along the edges. Pieces of it would break off and the raged edges would scratch my computer. From there it just got worse. I would NOT recommend this case.

    Very Poor Construction

    • Written by from Santa Teresa

I've only had this case about 2-3 months and have had numerous problems with it already. The first thing is the number of cracks in the case. over the course of this time period there have been numerous (and some being large) cracks in it around the corners and edges. Because of this, pieces of the case have been falling off, making it difficult for the case to stay on in certain areas. Another problem is how tight the case fits to the computer. I am afraid to take off the part covering the top of the laptop because every time I try to take it off, part of the case cracks and breaks. I feel that if I take it off it will break to a point of not being able to put it back on. Because of this, I am not able to clean the computer. I take VERY good care of my electronics and do not let them get damaged easily, so honestly there should be no reason for all of these cracks and broken pieces. I do use my computer on a daily basis since I'm in college but that's no reason for it to be falling apart after only 3 months. On top of that the case is very expensive, which is why I don't want to remove it just yet to try to get my moneys worth. I would recommend looking elsewhere for a case.

    Save your receipt

    • Written by from Grafton

One snap on the bottom broke off within 1-2 months of purchase, which then resulted in movement/other pieces breaking, to the point where the bottom would not stay attached. Unfortunately, I did not save my receipt, so the manufacturer would not stand by their product and replace the broken/defective bottom half.

    Poor quality

I purchased one of these Speck cases last year with my new MacBook Air. We use this laptop a couple of times a month, so this is not something that is receiving heavy use. The Speck case has cracked and is falling apart. I cannot imagine how soon this case would have failed is this laptop was getting used daily! Very poor quality for a pricey case, I am very disappointed!

    Doesn't even snap on

    • Written by from Surrey

I just purchased and returned the Satin Case from the apple store today. The reason being is that the bottom case does not even fully snap on! I could get 3 clips to work but the last clip just won't snap on!

I asked the Apple specialist to help me out and even she couldn't do it. We tried it on a macbook air on the floor and on that model, she only 2 of the front clips snapped on. We went through 3 other cases (1 the same color, 1 clear and 1 teal) from the same company before we finally gave up. I'm surprised apple is selling these in-store when they don't even work for the computer.

The one star is for the nice apple employee that helped me :) otherwise it would be none because the product just plainly doesn't work.
