    practical and pretty

    • Written by from Grand Bay-Westfield

I have 2. My Bride and I have cases on our iPhones and with other products you had to remove the case or, as I had been doing, leave a cable on the night tables or dresser to charge our phones. The Twelve South HiRise makes it easy just to drop the phones in so we now have his and hers. My wish list would be a redesign that would let me charge an iPad air and an iPhone. Once again, his and hers would be necessary. Nicely done Twelve South.

    Beautiful but tricky to assemble.

    • Written by from Santa Clara

This is a typically fantastic product from Twelve South. Docking with the Apple Lightning cable is elegant and easy, and the speaker, mic, and headphone ports are all left completely exposed. The phone is held at just enough of an angle, over an aluminum baseplate, to nicely enhance the speakerphone sound via acoustic reflection. The thought and design in Twelve South's work really shows, and the end result -- once this product is fully assembled -- is almost worthy of Apple's own design work.

That's the catch, however. The last stage of the manufacturing process -- assembly -- is left to the buyer. This makes sense, since it's a single product that's designed to accommodate almost any iPhone case. However, getting the alignment right, finding the proper spacing to hold the iPhone at the same angle as the dock support, keeping the left and right sides of the rear support post aligned while screwing it together, and even screwing in the extremely fine-threaded screws (which strip very easily with surprisingly little exertion) is extremely tricky. I had to make several attempts and ended up using a small hex wrench and piece of cardboard between the posts to keep them aligned while screwing everything together. The threads in one side of the support base became stripped in the process, but it seems to be stable with only three screws properly in place.

Fortunately, now that it's done, I won't have to make any changes unless/until I change my iPhone case to something thicker or thinner. But I can't recommend this for anyone who doesn't have the patience, dexterity, or determination to assemble the product themselves.

    Great stand!

    • Written by from Lakewood

If you are looking for a quality iPhone stand for your desk this is the one! The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five was because it was somewhat challenging to assemble, but at the end of the day it's a great stand. (it works for the iPhone 6/ Plus)

Works good, a hassle to assemble perfectly

Not a bad product once you get it fully assembled. I almost was about to take this back to the Apple Store after I tried putting it back together. If you are bad at assembling products, I would not recommend this.

    Beautiful and functioning stand

    • Written by from MAINEVILLE

I needed a stand for my 5s and Mini, both with the lightning cable, and liked what I read in the reviews for the most part. I was fortunate enough to order another cable accidentally as I felt I might need another one somewhere down the road. Completely skimmed over that part. So yes, it needs a cable to be an actual functioning stand.

When I got the box, I was a little surprised to see screws, an alan wrench, etc. to assemble the unit. It was a bit of a pain given that I have what my wife lovingly calls "plumbers hands", but I got it together, with cable, and hooked up to my PC in under five minutes. There were some negative feedback in regards to the plastic cover piece on the bottom. I have had no issue with it, and it seems sturdy enough to sit idle on my desk and not worry about it popping off. I had purchased two cases for my 5S and checked to see if it fit both, and it did with no problems (w/the included three adapter pieces).

Overall, it is a beautiful stand that, with my tech21 case, gets a ton of attention and subsequent compliments. I love the add to my desk space. A worthy buy, but I am giving it four stars accounting for the lack of a cable and mediocre degree of assembly.

    Great for iPad Mini!

    • Written by from Chicago

Overall a great product! The stand feels very sturdy and was a cinch to assemble. It takes up very little desk space and looks great next to my iMac. I like that you can adjust the stand to fit your device without having to take its case off. One small problem I have is that the removable plastic piece on the bottom that conceals the cable isn't well attached. It falls off almost every time I move the stand. Other than that, no major complaints!

Good product, but the 2m iPhone lightning cord is an issue….

    • Written by from Marlboro

Just got two of the longer iPhone 5 lightening cords (2m)…. be aware that while the cord connector itself is the same size, the cord is slightly thicker than the 1m cord…..so is an issue if you use it with 12 South's HiRise Dock for iPhone. I managed to make it work, but have to tape the bottom of the docking station where the cord threads out to keep the cover together. Otherwise, I like this docking station.

    Solid product

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I really like the design of this stand, and it's working great for my iPhone. Just ordered a second one for my iPad Air.

Only problem I had was when assembling it one of the bolts stripped so the stand is a bit wobbly. With the design of this product that actually creates a rather serious problem, as a big feature of this stand is its ability to adjust to different device sizes. But now that the bolt hole is stripped the only way to make it not wobble is to glue it in place. (thus losing the ability to adjust) Hopefully my second one will not have the same bolt issue.

    Clever product with implementation issues

    • Written by from Fairfax

The HiRise is a pretty decent product. It has nice weight, and as a machined aluminium product, it fits nicely into Apple's design language. The fact that it only fits Apple Lightning cords (I have a few from Monoprice, and the heads are too wide and cords too thick to fit into the stand opening) is annoying but understandable. There are also a couple of fit-and-finish issues that come from it being a self-assembly product - there are some small gaps where the stand meets the base. But those are trivial issues.

My biggest issue is the cheap plastic cap on the bottom that holds the hex wrench. The HiRise as a whole feels like a solid product, so to have a thin piece of plastic wedged onto the base that prevents the stand from sitting flat on the desk is a little disconcerting. It feels like an after-thought to an otherwise stellar product.

On the whole, though, it's a very nice stand.

    Works Great

    • Written by from Vancouver

Bought it for my new iPhone 5s, if you use case and need a dock this is the best after my research fit great to pretty much all kind of cases with lightning plug, back tall support stand can be adjust too so even iPad with thick cases will work too, built quality is very solid... Well the reason I rated at 4 stars is I wish they charge $10 more and include a lightning cable.

A little advice to Apple Store I am sure this great product from HiRise will sell way more if you have it in-store than either I have to pay shipping or spend up to $70 dollars to get free shipping well I live 2mins walk to a Apple Store.

Works great with or without a case

    • Written by from Pittsburgh

The stand is made very well, with aluminum to match Apple products, especially an iMac.

It was easy to assemble and to use.

Works great whether you have a case on your phone (2 different adjustment tabs are included for use with thin case or with a thick case) or even if you run a caseless program.

You need to have a spare Lightning cable to use with this stand.
