DO NOT PURCHASE! The bluetooth has NEVER maintained a connection. NEVER! Was a gift for Christmas, and was very disappointed in the product. You're music will always cut out. I have been so frustrated with this system. HORRIBLE PRODUCT.

    power cord is long

I've owned HK's Soundsticks before so knew what to expect in terms of size and design. Was pleasantly surprised because the AC cable was long. I only used Bluetooth to pair but works well with multiple devices. Haven't tried the other protocols. We like the loudness - adequate for a room where we were using Sonos Playbar. We hate the Playbar's app so wanted a simple Bluetooth speakers.

    Speaker turning on by itself

I absolutely love this speaker! I've had it about 2 months now and just a week ago I went to plug it in and turn it on. When all of a sudden it turned on all by itself.
I unplugged it and waited a few mins, only to plug it back in and it just turns on by itself. Tried connecting to computer and nothing happens. Only works in AUX mode

    Help anyone ?!?

Great once you get it working

Alright, there is no doubt this speaker's audio output is great. HOWEVER, I got stuck with the wifi setup for more than an hour!!

If you're having trouble, check if your router is in wireless N mode only. The HK Aura does not support wireless N, so I had change my router to support the older G connection. It took me a while to figure out this was the cause.. I hope this solves everyone's wifi issues!

Mind Blown (POOF) - Just like that

Even tho, this piece of technology is far more expensive in my country due to shipping and customs expenses - this is by far most brilliant, great looking, mind blown sound single speaker that I ever had. I used HK Sound-Sticks III Wireless and after switching to these, oh my oh my... I am just amazed.

I have to say that Aura is just a bit less loud than SS III, but hey it takes less space and is combined all in one, which is what most people want from speakers. Less space taking - Highest possible sound quality, loudness and bass.

I got what I wanted and I am satisfied customer!

It is working great with my iPhone 6S and also with my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015). I do not experience any issues like other users from reviews. Their system control app for iPhone is very simple to use and to setup your bass as much or less as you want. I configured it once and I will be increasing and reducing the sound through my MBP from now on.

Did I mention the look/design of this speaker? There's no better looking speaker YET made and their 360˚ technology is flawless.

Like a lot of reviews the sound is great when it works. The main issue is the connection be it bluetooth or airplay the thing simply will not connect. After a year of use the thing appears to be dead with no support from the manufacturer. The companion app has not been updated and no indication of any firmware updates for the speaker. Overall pretty disappointed with the speaker and would recommend you steer clear.

    Overpriced, a headache to control

The sound is good but you get tired of a mono speaker. there is no option for satellite LR speakers (as in adding a second speaker to get stereo). Can't be done unless you have some sort of audio splitter and a comb filter - but that still isn't stereo_/

The HK remote app is a pain to use. You frequently have to reset the thing and it is fiddly, plus the interface of the app is totally inadequate and the help function doesn't actually help you do anything.
Switching inputs is a pain. You have to remember what to hold down and for how long.

I've had this speaker for 10 months and I am the only one in the family who has been able to use it. This is because everyone else gave up on trying to figure it out. I hate this thing.

I strongly advise getting a proper stereo speaker system. I am confused as why this approach is a good idea. It makes no sense to use this to watch movies and certainly not in a good sized room. The day-to-day operation is a major fail. For $399 you could get a better system.

I'll put this on eBay and get something that is worth using.

    A Home Run!

I'm an audiophile that enjoys rich sound for my massive jazz collection. After reading the reviews I purchased it from an Apple Store (the only local place that had them in stock at the time). I am amazed at the sound quality! Sounds better than my high end surround system. On the 4th July I used it out back around the pool; even outside it sounds great. My newly remodeled backyard & pool area is pre-wired for speakers; but with this unit I won't be buying outdoor speakers! Very easy to setup and move inside. So far 3 friends are buying one. So far I've connected with iPhone, iPad, iPod (via cable) and PC; works flawlessly. The HK App for the Aura could use some improvement, but I still give 5 stars because of the sound quality. I found a small acrylic round table that sets off the visual display of the unit.

Wireless hopeless with Macbook Pro - but perfect with iPhone!

As others have mentioned the wireless is very poor and it's a great shame because when it is working the sound quality is brilliant. The problem does seem to be with my Macbook Pro, and so there is a solution. I now play my music from my iPhone (iTunes, spotify) with the bluetooth connection and it works a treat!!!!

seems nice but the ad hoc mode does not work

i cannot use airplay since i cannot get it to login to my home network wpa2-psk, the reason being that the device will not go into ad hoc mode as the manual says, therefore it cannot get an ip address to login and manage the psk settings. blu tooth sound is terribly choppy from my iphone even when they are in the same room with no obstructions. when i make my wireless network security free, airplay worked fine. that if course is a terrible solution. i tried to call or email support for several days with no response, they never answer their phone. so far i am very disappointed. the product looks and sounds good, but the company support and manual for the product are very questionable. very expense product for such terrible customer service.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly

The good is it sounds really great for what it is. It isn't going to compete with a full blown surround system, but I was looking for a source of music in the living room. It does have an optical input, which at least from my TV would allow it to be the sound system if you live in a smaller house/apt and don't have a more robust system. It really sounds great.
The bad is it doesn't have a remote, and since mine is on the floor under a piece of furniture it means turning it off and on requires crawling on my hands and knees and holding this tiny little "button". No remote on/off is pretty horrible. The instructions are almost non-existent, so you really don't know if you could be using it better or not.
The ugly is it looks like a popcorn machine. My home is mid-century modern and this is straight up modern. I planned to have it hidden behind a piece of furniture to have sound out of nowhere. However putting it directly on carpet totally muffles the sound, so now I need to find a 8.5" round piece of marble or something to put it on. So right now this review is putting it on hardwood and it sounds terrific there, but looks totally out of place in the room.

I have no idea why there are not more dual airplay/blue tooth speakers, but it is what it is. I would rather have a traditional speaker look, but I could only find one and it was twice the price and also I am not sure it would cover the bass nearly as well as the Aura. If you like the look, can put it somewhere easy to access physically then it is a nice system.

    Nice design with fantastic sound!

I just bought this system and absolutely loved it!
It sounds warmer and punches the bass sounds deeper and better than my previous sytem 'Marshall Woburn', which i've returned because of it's overall harsh sound characteristics.

I guess, the surroundly placed six midrange & tweeters gives you a nice dimention of sound, which really helps to fill the whole room easily. (tested in a 45 square/meters room)
Altough i placed it on floor near a wall, the sound was ritch and equally filling the room. It was definetely a better and different experience than my previous speaker, which sounded like a mono speaker.

The HK app gives you a chance to tune bass level, as a bonus option.. I wish i could also adjust trebble, altough using the eq of your player really helps out there.

Overall, The Aura is a very nice looking unique design, when comparing to most other options.
It sounds fantastic, and highly recommended to anyone!

    Fantastic Product!

After starting my search for a new speaker, I was immediately drawn to the Aura. Skeptical after reading all the reviews, regarding the flashing wi-light, and connection issues, I decided to take the plunge. Let me tell you, I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER! This is a fantastic speaker, providing 360-degree sound at a level that surpassed my expectations. The app is great, and very simple to use; like Apple products, the Aura doesn't come with a manual, but is very intuitive to set up. I was able to sync the speaker to my wi-fi network in moments, and the quality is excellent. The flashing light that people reviewed as being annoying is unnoticeable to me, as it sits on the back of the speaker, near the cable ports (and I don't keep the speaker on a pedestal in the middle of the living room). The app is a little finicky, and may have to be 'closed' and re-opened, but it takes a mere second or two for the speaker to show up again; also, the ability to adjust the volume and bass levels from the app is nice.

Don't be deterred by any of the negative comments; I was more than surprised to find out the quality, appearance and sound output of this speaker greatly exceeded my expectations, and totally negated my fears of owning this incredible piece of technology.

    Incredible sound, spotty AirPlay

Before buying this speaker, I wasn't convinced that one speaker could replace multiple. However, I was utterly convinced once I played the very first notes of Michael Jackson's "Human Nature". The Harman Kardon Aura fills the entire room with sound with little indication that it's coming from just one speaker.
The bass is very deep and smooth without any distortion. It creates a very rich sound unlike any speaker I've owned before. I listen to it at just 1/3 the volume and it gives quite the punch. I have no doubt that you could fill a very large space with sound with the Aura at near full power.
The Aura is an absolutely gorgeous modern design show piece. Everybody who sees it is taken aback by its unconventional, almost alien design.
That said, I purchased the Aura to join my AirPlay ecosystem and I'm often frustrated that it has fallen asleep and no device will wake it up as is expected. I often have to restart it which takes some time because the touch sensitive buttons aren't very responsive. I will say that once AirPlay connection is achieved, it sticks with it with no interruptions, but not knowing if it'll connect is a real downer. I don't want to have to think about it. Select it on AirPlay on any device and it should just connect and start playing. That's unfortunately not the case.
So despite paying a hefty premium for AirPlay in the Aura, I'm convinced that I'm better off just plugging it into an AppleTV via optical link. At least the AppleTV is reliable in waking up when any device selects it for AirPlay. I'm still hopeful that Harman Kardon will rectify the issue with a firmware update.

    Amazing speaker!!!

This speaker is amazing! I love it!!! The sound and connection is great so I'm not sure what other people are talking about bad connection. I use Bluetooth connection with my ipad, iphone and my macbook pro and it works fantastic!

Fantastic unit some bad reviews should be disregarded.

I purchased this unit after some debate. My main reason for purchase was sound quality and pricing, portability was not needed for my application. I listen to a wide variety of music from classical to jazz, rock, EDM and anything in between. This executes well on all styles. I am using the Aura as a bedroom speaker. This should be treated as leisurely listening device not a replacement for quality high end separate speakers with a high end receiver. Though it has a high volume threshold with clarity. Most will be surprised by what it can do.
I've listened to Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Air which may have a slight edge in the mid tones of music but for $200 more I found it to not be worth it. In comparison to friends that have the Bose Soundlink II and III this Aura is superior yet it lacks portability. As far as reviews about connectivity I found this to be extremely simple. I'm using the Ad-hoc mode which allows me to play it as a wifi speaker through iTunes. I'm using a mid 2011 iMac and an Airport Extreme router. There is a millisecond delay when controlling volume and a second delay when manually changing tracks. Note that you don't lose a second of the song iTunes waits with the delay in communication. With Bluetooth via an iPhone it's just as reliable.
As far as the light in the unit. Unless you're hyper sensitive to light when trying to sleep with music playing that won't be an issue. I would chalk up some reviews to user error. I have not dealt with customer support from Harman so I have no opinion on that. I haven't used it with Apple TV or with a PC. The only issue I had was there was no manual in the box. Easily found on Harman Kardon's website. If you want a stationary speaker in this price range this is a great unit with fantastic sound quality for the price. Plenty of connection possibilities and loads of headroom for cranking it up.
