    Love this thing!

I've had keyless entry on my car for a while, now I have it on my house. Just touch the lock to unlock!

I love to show this thing off to my friends too, very easy to send them keys through the app. Works great!

    Not Ready for Prime Time

    • Written by from Slidell

Had my Kevo for almost a year. All said and done it is a neat idea, but I would not buy another or put it on another door or the only door to my place. It is functional but does not work consistently, flawlessly, predictably or perfectly. It did solve the problem of letting the kids in and out of the house. They frequently lost the house keys and it was expensive and annoying to change all the locks. They do not loose their iPhones and if they did, the access code is easy to change. The lock sometimes but not always automatically locks when you leave the house. You have to wait to see if it locks and if it does not, you have to touch the lock and keep at it until it does. Likewise, when you touch it to open it, sometimes it does not open unless you touch it several times. If this does not work, you have to activate the App on your iPhone. This is inconvenient if your hands are full. I or my kids have never had to use a metal key to open this lock, but as you can see, it sometimes takes effort to to get it to function on your iPhone. When you enter the house, it does not lock the door. You have to manually do this. Support from the company is mediocre. Kevo has not released an App for the Apple Watch to my knowledge.

    Great and easy to use

This lock is a tremendous help for me and my family. Its ability to send out keys and track when they are used help me feel more safe about my home when I am not there and the top quality of the bolt keeps me at peace when I am at home. It was a breeze to install(took about 10 minutes) and has been working flawlessly since I bought it. I am now planning on buying more for other doors around the house.

phone broke and now I'm locked out of my house

    • Written by from tomball

My iphone 5s broke and I desperately needed a phone, so I switched to my old iphone 4. Well, now it says Kevo isn't supported on 4 and I have NO WAY to get into my house other than to break in. This is ridiculous. And also, it locks and unlocks when it wants to. For example if I'm in the living room of my house about 15 feet away from the door, anyone can walk up, touch it and since i'm close it'll unlock my door. So unsafe.

Don't Buy/Should Have Waited Until Bugs Worked Out

    • Written by from Cerritos

I've had Kevo for almost a year. About ready to throw it in the trash. Lock works without having the Kevo app open or running in the background. You don't even need to touch the lock in order to lock/unlock it; your hand or any part of your body can be as far as 10 inches away and it activates. These are all major security concerns. The fact that I have a secondary gate w/lock is the only reason I haven't removed. Another problem is some family members use the auto lock/unlock feature and some still use the manual key. The problem seems to be that it gets out of sync and the locking mechanism sticks and won't operate at all.

Just got my Kevo. Works marvelously

    • Written by from Singapore

I have updated the Kevo lock after I run the Kevo app. It works marvellously, no problem locking and unlocking. I have tested it with inside/outside the house, works as it describe. I also bought a few Kevo keys for my family where their phone has yet to be compatible, works seamlessly smooth. Very convenient entering the house. Have tried August and returned. Just don't feel secure as I can't control the door to lock automatically, makes me worry more.

Inconsistent Performance makes this a loser

    • Written by from Napa

We were excited to install this solution - in a optimal situation which is your Bluetooth is on, phone is unlocked and outside of your pocket the lock will function correctly about 80% of the time.

The aforementioned success rate drops to 20% when the phone is locked and inside your pocket. This just so happens to be the most frequent situation of use - especially when your hands are full with groceries. So for us we have gone back to keys. They work 100% of the time.

Unil Kevo can truly claim this product works at least 90% of the time when the phone is in your pocket - don't bother

One additional note. For Ford sync users Kevo will never work if you just got out of your car and your phone was connected via Bluetooth.

    Two bucks per key

    • Written by from Arlington

This thing seems solid, especially in comparison to the August we returned. Time will tell if it holds up.
One big surprise... each e-key costs two dollars, the most useful feature of this lock will cost you each time. How many neighbors, cleaning people, or family do you have? It'll cost you 2 bucks for each of them to use this thing. Not cool.

Used this lock for a while now. it does not work reliably. Locks randomly when you do not have your phone on you. Does not lock very often when the phone is there. On one phone it is necessary to turn it on and have the app active, not just running in the background. Defeats the purpose. Would not buy it again.

Easy to install, inconsistent to lock/unlock

    • Written by from Jonesborough

My mom was looking to replace her aging deadbolt and wanted something in nickel. She's not super tech-savy, but likes new gadgets. I recommended spending the money and get one of these Kevo locks. I told her that she could use her iPhone 4s to control the lock while keeping her hands free to carry things into the house. She seemed pretty excited about it, so she spent the money to get one.

The installation for the lock was pretty easy. The instructions were pretty straight forward.
I did several tests with the lock with my iPhone 5s and it seemed to work pretty well. There were times that it was inconsistent. After testing, I found out that it wouldn't do it when the phone was in my pocket, but it would work when I was holding my phone.

I then would test it with her 4s and it would still work inconsistently. Both of us had ordered new iPhones (6 and 6+), and attributed the problems to her 4s being over 3 years old and starting to have Bluetooth problems. I decided to wait it out and see if the new phones had the same problem.

While we waited for our phones to come in, Kevo released a firmware update to the lock (I thought it was really cool that the firmware on the lock can be updated). After the update, my 5s worked much better. We get our new iPhones and the deadbolt is still not 100% accurate at recognizing when a phone is its vicinity but it is better.

Kevo has a great idea here, but the product is not 100% reliable. I recommend the product but only if you have $200+ to spend and some patience.

    Love this product - Kevo

    • Written by from denville

I am an empty nester grandma, who recently got her first iPhone, and am loving what it allows me to do. My favorite new product is Kevo, which is on our front door. We used to primarily use the garage door code to gain access from driveway through garage into house. This code pad always made my husband nervous, we know that they're not very secure. Now I am going through the front door, and just touching the Kevo to unlock the door, and I don't have to put down bags, luggade, food. I just love it! My husband doesn't have an iPhone, so he uses the fob on his keychain, and he gets it, b/c the Kevo opens just like his car door, by simple touch. Now we're going to get one for our lakehouse, where we leave an old key under a rock for everyone in the family who uses the house. Now everyone will have an eKey. Smart lock eliminates our bad habits.

    Love it!

I've never installed a door knob or lock. This was so easy. I followed the video step by step. It was simple to replace my existing lock. My contractor had put our deadbolt on the top instead of the usual bottom, so I followed, but the kevo set has a "tail" for the computer, so it overlapped where my doorknob was supposed to be. So I just flipped the two - easy peasy! I'm just glad I already had a deadbolt and didn't need to do any drilling or make indents for the plates.

The function is great! It works well w me and my dtrs iPhone, and my husband uses the key fob. I gave gma one of the 2 spares. The other is in case our iPhones r dead or other situation the remote function wouldn't work. We lock our garage/kitchen door more than before w regular keys (actually never did - only when we left for a trip!). Searching for those were a pain! Recent increases in burglaries kept me nagging everyone to lock, but this works w/o need to nag! And I sleep better at nite!

    • Written by from WASHINGTON

I bought two, but I had to request a replacement for one of them, as it can be easy to break one of the connector wires if you are not careful to follow the instructions precisely about where to place the wires. That said my wife and I love them.

Not Very Reliable. A Don't Buy

    • Written by from Nanticoke

I've had this lock on my door for several months now. Syncing the iPhone with the lock was a pain. It took several tries before it worked. Most of time I have to have the iPhone in my hand, not in my pocket, for the lock to work. So, why not just use a key. I was planning to install this lock on another door, but that is out of the question.

Do not buy, support is Automated replies

    • Written by from Wellington

The software on the iPhones is flakey, after installing the lock, the fob worked immediately. Contacted support, the automated reply gave the answer - hint, this problem is common.

Reloaded iPhone software as requested. Immediately started to operate as planned, however the iPhone insisted the lock software needed updating. Allowed the update which was listed as successful but the lock has not operated electronically since, fob or iPhone

So far lodged two support requests, yet to have a reply

This lock looks just like the original lock it replaced

    • Written by from Alameda

I put this lock on our cabin, so we can rent it via services like AirBnB and not have to hand off the key, simply email an eKey to them, and disable it when they leave.

The best part of this lock is that when it is not active it looks exactly like the original lock it replaced, the lights are only visible when running. Install was easy with just 4 screws. Sadly I killed the first lock I bought by pinching the antenna cable, leave the adhesive on the antenna wire! Once in the door install the batteries while holding the program button and it will test for door direction and it is now ready for use. I woke the included key fob with a pencil tip and walked out the door. Touching it caused it to lock upon detecting the fob on my body.

I then used the key tool to swap the included key for the original house key so ALL my locks use the same key. Just turn the included key, insert the key tool, remove the key, insert your house key, remove the tool and turn your key both directions. Your house key now controls the lock, the included keys no longer do.

Lastly I downloaded the app to my iPhone 5 and followed the directions onscreen to have the lock registered in my name. Touch the program button and it became aware of my phone as a key, Touch the Calibrate button and perform the procedure (go outside with phone in pocket and tap the lock several times) and it calibrates the antenna to your phone and pocket, do this with the fob too. This makes it so when someone knocks on the locked door your approach doesn't allow those outside to unlock your door simply because your key is near on the inside of the door. The lock ONLY opens when you are outside with your eKey.

I have emailed several family members as test who simply downloaded the app, registered, and accepted my eKey invitation. When they arrived at the house their key allowed them to open and lock the door w/o me being there or hiding a key above the door frame. When they leave I can disable their eKey without removing their eKey so they can only use it again when I say they can, or I can retrieve the eKey and email it to someone else. I get a notification when anyone uses the lock right on my phone.

Since the eKeys and their tracking are controlled by the company they don't give you unlimited keys, currently they give you 5 extras when you buy (Summer 2014) but may change that number and require you to buy them. 6 total seems like enough for now.

The only feature I cannot find is let people in on certain days and times, like a dog walker or plumber. Guess that will come in a future release. I somehow also assumed that it would include the ability to unlock from the iphone, but I guess they don't want to be a target for hackers. Since NO ONE can unlock remotely, hackers will have to stand in-front of my door to try and get in, where hopefully I would notice them.
