    Help...I've fallen and I can't get up!

I have fallen in love with this keyboard!
60 year old typist with arthritic fingers, finds spatial movement is lessened and accuracy is resplendently restored. Along with many other older, foolish folks out there, I spend many mealtimes sitting over the keyboard. My frustration level has also lessened as my tea and toast crumbs are no longer interacting with my keyboard. Bonus! This keyboard is a pleasure to drive. Now, if I can just find the brakes...maybe I can get up myself.

Let me repeat what everyone else has said....

I go through keyboards as fast as a baby goes through disposable diapers. For me, the keyboard is the single most important experience for the computer user. There must be absolute comfort, feel and ability to type with
    an abundance of speed.

I have used something as bland as the Logitech S530
keyboard/mouse combo and something as expensive as the
Logitech DiNovo which sells for $200.

This new Apple Keyboard is something rather spectacular
    for what it is.

Arriving in a HUGE box that gets shipped from Apple
(this must be their idea of a joke), beneath the mounds
of packing paper is a small sliver of a package that
    contains this tiny marvel.

Setting up the keyboard was easy. Apple even included
a USB extension. Though I detest wired keyboards as
a rule, I suddenly don't seem to mind.

This keyboard is ultra-responsive. People were not
kidding when they said typing speed is dramatically
improved thanks to the spacing of the keys. The overall
touch is firm and responsive. The keyboard is a work
of beauty. This is a "must buy!"

    I love it

I must admit. I really did not like the previous keyboard. To me it looked cheap, was hard to clean, plus I didn't like response feel of the keys. The new design is outstanding. Apple removed all my complaints. The keys response is very good. The low angle is feel natural. If anything I would add it would be to return the Apple key. Anyway, it well worth the cost.

    Beautiful keyboard, but

with what seem to be a couple of bugs.

First, just let me contribute to the applause regarding this keyboard - it is beautiful, amazingly sleek and wonderful to write on. I just love it.

However, like a couple of others I have discovered that there is something strange regarding the function keys (F1 and so on). The F3 and F4 does not work according to symbols on them (Expose All windows and Open Dashboard), while the other keys with symbols on them work as indicated by their symbols.
Instead, Expose All windows and Open Dashboard are still under F9 and F12, but has to be released with the "fn" key.

And unless I check "Use all F1,F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" (System preferences - Keyboard & Mouse - Keyboard), a lot of the other shortcuts stop working. But by checking this option, the "fn" key has to be pushed to adjust the volume on the F11-F12 keys and so on. Then again, the Expose, Dashboard and other keys work as they did on the old keyboard...

Something is not working as it should... :-)

Rating: 5 stars for the keyboard, 3 stars for what seems to be a driver/software problem

PS: Yes, I have installed the update for this keyboard.

    One word - PERFECT!

Finally a keyboard whose keys respond without a long distance stroke path - you touch the keys rather then having D E P R E S S them. Brings new meaning to "touch typing". I LOVE this keyboard!!

And forget about gunk getting down into the keyboard and impairing your keyclicks - or like with that nasty see-through keyboard, seeing everything that and fallen inside and you couldn't get out!. The closed nature of the keyboard is wonderful.

Don't the let thinness fool you. This is one heavy weight, sturdy, hardworking keyboard.

    Apple Keyboard

Hands down the best keyboard I have ever used. My typing speed has improved dramatically. You can also eat your danish in the morning without worrying about the crumbs falling down between the keys.

    Best Keyboard I've Owned

This is very easily the best keyboard that I have ever owned. There are no problems with it that I have experienced. It is actually thinner than you think that it will be, which is definitely a good thing. There are many programmable keys to customize your layout and its ergonomically sound. I have it set up with my Macbook and a bluetooth mighty mouse with a stand for the macbook, making my desktop setup complete. Thank you apple.

    Suprise!

I have always loved the latest and greatest, espeiclally when it comes to Apple. I had the iPone 2nd day it was realeased. When I saw the new keyboard I thought it was nice and well designed, but was concerned that it would not be as good to type with as my regular apple keyboard where the keys are more raised. To my suprise I took to the new keyboard like a duck to water! It's awsome! I love the low profile. I love the look of it, and for some weird reason, I feel I type better on it. I recomend this new keyboard. Apple.....you did it again!

    Finally A Usable Keyboard!

I had multiple strokes a couple of years back and it has been very difficult to type with a regular keyboard with raised keys. Apple's new slimline keyboard lets me type like I used to be able to. Thanks Apple!

If only Apple's mice were this well designed.

I gotta admit, I was a little skeptical to begin with, given the price tag for this jewel, but I'm seriously considering just buying one for my work Mac as well just so that I can have a great experience there too.

Whoever said it in a review is right, you just touch these keys. No effort is needed to use this keyboard, just the lightest touch. It makes me want to write more, type more, keep using it. When has a keyboard ever given you that feeling?

If only Apple would pay as much attention to their mice devices. The Mighty Mouse now looks so out of place next to this pristine wonder. Maybe they'll soon come out with a new wireless Mighty Mouse that matches and is as much of a breeze to use ... and that lets me right-click easily.

Walking on water for your fingers delight!!!

The new Apple keyboard is the best input device design in the world. With keystrokes as smooth as wind over your skin and just as pleasing to the eye as the finger. A definite five star product!!!

This is a great keyboard, but do your maintenance!

This keyboard works wonderfully, but you do have to perform routine maintenance periodically in order for it to continue to work well. It is very responsive and actuators are made for years and years of use. I have had this keyboard for 4 years and it is still going strong with no signs of giving up anytime soon. But I do the maintenance to keep it working well.

I know a few people who had problems with this keyboard version and the first question I would ask them is: How long has it been since you vacuumed out the keyboard. their answer: "huh.." Real Answer: You should vacuum out the keyboard every 3 months at a minimum. Take a small hand vac (with the computer turned off) and run it across the keys (not pressing the keys down) Reason: there are small cracks where dust, small hairs, etc. will fall into (just like any other keyboard) and you don't realize how much accumulates over the weeks but if you never vac your keyboard then the gunk just accumulates eventually being forced further and further into the mechanism until keys start to stick and then get stuck in an up or down position where pressing they key does nothing. question #2: Have you ever spilled water, soda, beer, etc on your keyboard. answer "yeah, but I wiped it off and plugged it in and it worked fine." duh, it worked fine because the liquid hadn't made it's ways to the mechanism. By continuing to use the keyboard you worked the liquid down further into the mechanism. the liquid then dried (if it was beer or soda) and left a compound that was detrimental to the mechanism and over time corroded that area of the components. Spill something on the keyboard? Flip it over immediately, place it on a towel and let it sit where there is good airflow for 24 hours (no less!) so the liquid can dry without you working it into the keyboard components. if you spilled too much or didn't turn it over immediately this may have no effect, but it's your best chance at saving the component. My computer won't recognize my keyboard. Is it plugged directly into the mac or into a hub. answer: a hub. if it's not a powered hub or doesn't have fully usb compliant hardware then it may not communicate all data through to the mac resulting in it being unidentifiable.

Hooked to my PC at work...everyone is jealous.

This is a beautiful keyboard. the super thin deisng seems to beldn into the desk, making it incredibly comfortable to use. As a tall person with large hands, I appreciate the increased "dead space" between each key. Additionally, the keyboard FEELS great under your fingers. The keys feel substantial, and the motion is very crisp. The low power USB ports are handy for mice, but most peripherals draw too much power to use with them.

The short key travel is a bit of an adaptation, because it is slightly longer than a usual laptop keyboard. The motion feels crisp, but when you first switch over, your fingers want to press the keys to far, and I felt a little sore the first day till I got used to the motion. Now, I find that I can type considerably faster on this keyboard than any I have had before.

Like all keyboards, there is a simple matter of comfort and preference, and this may not suit your tastes. But the construction is very solid, and the keyboard has a very high-quality feel to it, and definitely merits consideration, even for PC users.

    Awsome Keyboard. Money well spent!

I went through about half a dozen keyboards after purchasing my Mac Pro. I didn't care for the Apple one so tried models from Logitech, McAllay, Kensington, Matias and others. I kept going back to the Apple one despite my reservations because none of them were that much better for the money spent than the one that came with my computer. I was going to buy one of the Moshi Celesta keyboards, but just as I was gearing up to drop the $120 on one Apple released the new keyboard for $49! I thought wow $49? Really? How good could it be for $49? I decided what the heck..why not try one out and needless to say the search ended there. Not only is it an awesome keyboard (I absolutely love the look and feel) the price is an incredible bargain.

Exceptional Keybaord - Well Worth 49

This usb keyboard is fantastic! I wish my iMac Retina had included this in the box instead of the BT keyboard which is tiny and cramped to type on, and totally nonfunctional to use all day for real work.

Its surprisingly affordable for an apple add-on at 49. Great keys, great typing angle, and all metal! The keypad really is a necessary feature in my opinion. Of course since this keyboard in USB is has a cable (yikes!) and it seems this one should be backlit but its not.

Even the solar keyboard from logitech is not backlit -- whats up with that?

Ideally, Apple should allow an exchange with a new iMac - the tiny wireless one for this one imo.

    MOMA Material!

This keyboard is simply put, the sexiest piece of computer gear I've ever seen and owned! It is, without a doubt, a masterpiece of indusrial art and deserves its own pedestal in the halls of MOMA! The keys are solid and have just the right amount of tactility and resistance. Aesthetics and solid performance combined! My only wish is that Apple would also release a software update for Windows users; so we too could use all of the keyboard's function keys and other special features. Best $49.00 I've spent for a long time! Well deserved kudos to Apple!

very nice, and it works fine on a KVM too

There have been reviews claiming that this keyboard does not work with a KVM switch. I have an iogear 4 port KVM (model GCS634U) with a mac, windows, and linux system. The keyboard switches ports just fine and it works with windows just fine. Since this keyboard does not have a "Scroll Lock" you do have to redefine the "port toggle" to be the control key (see the KVM documentation). You may also need to plug the keyboard directly into the PC so windows can detect it and install the HID drivers, after that's done you can connect it to the KVM.

Gold Star for Apple, keyboard is excellent.

Layout is a little different from earlier versions, but I adjusted quickly and find this beats earlier boards I've used over 30 years using Apple keyboards and compatibles.
    Great job Apple!
I bought two for my Dual G5 and 17" MB Pro. Both function uniformly same.
