HORRIBLE! Apple needs to update and improve external keyboards!!!!

I am now on #6....all within 3 years. I am an author who makes her living writing. This keyboard will work one day, and the next, one or two of the keys just stop working. Nothing brings them back. No spills, no drops, no cat or dog hair....it just stops working. Happens EVERY time... these things are EXPENSIVE!!! What is wrong with Apple that they can't produce a reliable external wired keyboard? Tried the Apple wireless keyboard as well - it stopped working after 6 months.

    Failure Rate

Granted we are protools operators that use the keyboards daily, however I'm looking at a pile of keyboards in my office. I've had over 10 of these die within 3 years. The previous models have lasted 3 time as long. What gives Apple?

    Keyboard doesn't work

I'm this right moment using a the keyboard of my macbook pro because my work station is stopped. Sometimes the keyboard doesn't work, if you restart doesn't work, if you connect usb in other entrance doesn't work.... However, if you connect the same keyboard on 150U$ PC it works perfectly. I'm very upset with Apple on this product. I have Iphone, Ipods, Ipads, Macbook and others...

    Sorry Apple, please try again.

Sorry but I think this keyboard is woefully bad. I'm returning it to the Apple Store today. I have 6 Macs in the house and love Apple products, but sometimes Apple designs things that are sexy and flashy but don't work well. Witness the "hockey puck" mouse. Ditto on the keyboard this one replaces. For those of us that like a responsive keyboard with a solid touch, this keyboard doesn't cut it at all. Typing on this keyboard is like typing on a laptop keyboard. Some people like that mushy feel; I don't. I'm reverting to my Matias keyboard with its more substantial, more solid, and springier feel. Sorry folks. I give this keyboard one star at best, and that's only because it looks so different.

    Apple Keyboard with numeric keypad

Very disappointed with this product. First 3 keyboards they changed at the store as they stopped working. Later I found out you have to use the extension usb cable and they work again. Today another one broke using a very dry damped cloth and cleaning keyboard upside down.

Don't get this keyboard if you expect to use it with a KVM switch

Had an Iogear KVM switch. It has worked with every keyboard I've had (even the old style Apple keyboard). But not with this one. The only workaround probably would be to buy a expensive powered KVM. I work for Apple and still no one at Applecare could give me a straight answer about why this was happening. Well I figured out why. It draws way too much power (one reason the extra USB's won't work on a Mac Mini). Even Iogear was shocked when I called them to try and troubleshoot it. I've had it for over a month and tried everything. So hopefully I can get my money back or just sell it to another co-worker. But if you have more than one computer, don't waste your money on it.

Lot of money for something that won't last

Nice looking keyboard but iMac won't acknowledge it exists. Just something that happens after a year or two. It of course does this on startup so i couldn't log in until I brought an old pic keyboard from work.Imay just stick with that keyboard instead of spending another $50

WARNING: NOT COMPATIBLE WITH KVM SWITCHES

First of all, this keyboard looks and feels great. However, I will be returning it because it doesn't work with my Iogear KVM switch, which I need to use to access multiple computers. There are multiple posts about this in the support forum, and it seems the keyboard doesn't work with ANY KVM switch, so if that's a requirement, get a different keyboard.

On 3rd keyboard in 2 years

This keyboard works great…for a minute. First one, immediately would only work intermittently w the Thunderbolt I bought at the same time. Because of the timing, I assumed it was the Thunderbolt, so I brought it into the Genius Bar to be told it was fine and must be the keyboard. This was confirmed when I replaced that brand new keyboard to have it work fine the first few weeks, but then after those first few weeks...

Now every time I restart my laptop (connected to the Thunderbolt screen which in turn connects the keyboard to the MacBook Pro) or re-plug in my laptop from being away, it does not work. Every time. I have to unplug it, plug it into a different port, wait 15-20 seconds to see if it acknowledges it, rinse and repeat about a dozen times until it finally sees it again.

Today, after playing the above game for 1.5 years, it just stopped working altogether, even when plugged into my laptop directly or the iMac. Back to the Apple store I go for my THIRD keyboard in less than 3 years.

If this third keyboard has the same connectivity issue, I will be returning it and going non-Mac moving forward. A shame, as if you take away the connection issues, it feels great, has a good bounce to the keys and a nice texture on the surface.

    bad, BAD keyboard!!!

i've spent a few days with the new apple keyboard. admittedly, i miss the MEAT to the keys... but it's okay. in the spirit of progress - i can adjust...

    problems:

    - must use software update just to use the VOLUME KEYS?!??!? its just a KEYBOARD! ARRGGGH!!!... ok, BREATHE... i'm still in. just wonder why?
    - using flash. an app RIFE with FN key shortcut functions. now i have to use an additional FN key modifier key to access them - command+FN+f8... WHAT, THREE KEYS to add a symbol now? am i using a laptop here?
    - suddenly my option, command, spacebar no longer works the magnify tool in illustrator...

GRRRRR - just tossed the new keyboard and plugged in the old one and THANKFULLY, life is back to where i left it!

another apple hardware effort. another significant blunder. IBM tried this with the PC junior about 17 years ago and they quickly came back to what worked...

imac round mouse - BAD IDEA
g4 qube - horribly BAD IDEA
mighty mouse - all over the place BAD IDEA
chicklet keyboard - who didnt see this one coming?

    Dysfunctional Space Key

I have found the space key on my brand new keyboard to be dysfunctional. It does not recognize my right thumb when it hits the key. The stroke is recognized only when my thumb is perfectly centered on the keyboard or a I use my left thumb, thus I say this is not a writers keyboard. Ernest Hemingway would have used this thing for target practice and I'm considering switching to a typewriter too.

    Doesn't Always Work

This would be an amazing keyboard if when you connected it it worked. I use this keyboard in a docking station type set-up with my laptop. As Apple doesn't actually offer a docking station, I had to create my own. I use a macbook pro 13 inch retina. I plug this keyboard in and out depending on where I am working, at my desk or on the move. However, the keyboard (or my mac) fairly regularly fails to recognize the fact that the keyboard is plugged in. Restarts don't work. Plugging and unplugging doesn't work. The extension cable that people suggest worked for a bit then stopped. Above all Apple tech support couldn't help. I highly recommend staying away from this keyboard if you plan on using it with a laptop. It could be great, but isn't. :/

Loved it for new iMac but

I love it for the new iMac, so I bought one for G5/MacPro combo switched by KVM. I ignored the other posts about it not working. Should have heeded. DOES NOT WORK WITH KVM. How can that be?
I don't get it. Why? I don't know how to rate the stars because on one machine it's great, on two it is a paperweight.

    Toy Keyboard

I hated this keyboard with it's chiclet keys and not enough angle adjustment. Not only did I send it back, I immediately ordered a bunch of the previous white keyboards to stockpile. It does look good, though and thus the single star.

    Problem

This new keyboard (nice as it is) will NOT work with a KVM switch from IOGear. IOGear knows of the problem but thus far there is no fix,

Great with Mac, not with a KVM switch!

    Nice keyboard!
I use an IOGear KVM switch with a mini & a powerbook. The new keyboard won't work with with the KVM no matter HOW nice it is to look at & type on! It's going back to the store tomorrow & the old keybd goes back into service (sigh...) The PC guys have to love this!

It might be a good keyboard but it will have to go back because it reeks. Its smells strongly of a mixture of acrylic nails and a touch of ammonia?

No real feel to it and too small

Without a doubt, this is the worst keyboard I've ever struggled with. It's so thin as to feel like a toy. They keys are too short and don't provide worthwhile feedback. It's hard to touch-type on it without hitting other keys accidentally. And why is dashboard now on F2?

    BOO.

I was disappointed with this keyboard....I actually hated it. I traded my keyboard with someone else, for the regular apple keyboard. Its hard to get used to, and after a month of having it, I decided to give it up. The keys are weird because they're really small and it feels like you don't have to push down a lot, but you actually do. It made me mess up too much. Me no like.
