    Great but flawed...

    • Written by from Calgary

The mouse itself is a very good multi-button mouse. HOWEVER, the issues with the scroll-ball are too large to ignore. With no way to clean the ball the mouse is defective and should be recalled. Mine stopped working after about 4 months.

    not worth the money

    • Written by from Phoenix

This mouse is the worst I've ever used. We've had it for less than 6 months, and the scroll button has continually had problems with working but would ultimately function again.
Now it won't work at all, and so we need to replace it. Also, it is over-sensitive and many times does things on it's own (like the right click or the buttons on the side will engage without us trying)
Don't waste your money. Not worth it!

    It works

    • Written by from Valparaiso

The first mouse I received came w/ my iMac. After awhile, the cord was threading away ( where it connects w/ the mouse). Called Apple, got a new one, it works great and it has been a year. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the mouse wheel/ball. Sometimes it doesn't work. To fix this, turn it upside down and place the mouse on its wheel. roll it around in every direction. This corrects the problem. It does left/right click, U just have to feel when U click. BRAVO Apple for such innovation!

    Great look but...

    • Written by from Montreal

Again the scroll ball gets dirty every couple of weeks. Laser is unprecise. It happens often that the pointer goes straight into a corner evev if it was in the center of the screen a split second before.

The squeeze buttons are way to sensitive sometimes. Right click is not too precise neither.

Dont waste your money on this mouse. Get any other mouse.

    expensive and unreliable

    • Written by from White Plains

The scroll dimple stopped working after about a month. Now it scrolls up but not down. I was thinking of adding it to my pile of broken Apple keyboards, but the $50 price tag is a tad insane. It was nice the few weeks that it worked right.

    Completely Disappointing

    • Written by from Ogdensburg

No matter how I adjusted the tracking speed this mouse just could not handle quick movements. The cursor would jump all over the place and even go the opposite direction if I happened to move too fast for it - which did not need to be very fast at all. I've had other much cheaper mice that could keep up with me just fine. Using this for any kind of graphic applications was an exercise in endless frustration. Definitely the worst mouse I've ever purchased.

    This mouse is a rat!

    • Written by from Indianapolis

My scroll ball also stopped working after a year. It still scrolls upward in a jerky fashion, but not downward. I tried rubbing alcohol, but that didn't help. I even tried to trick it into scrolling downward by turning it around 180 degrees and then scrolling upwards to scroll downwards! That didn't work either, and that's when I decided this mouse is a rat.

    Scroll Ball Broken

    • Written by from Gloucester

I see I'm not the first to have this problem... All of a sudden, the scroll ball has stopped scrolling down. A frustrating (common, by the sounds of it) problem that I hope Apple are looking into. (Odd that it stills scrolls up and left and right - some sort of design fault?)

In all fairness, I've had over a year's worth of use in a work environment from what is otherwise an excellent mouse; however, I wouldn't say that it's been over used or mistreated in any way. The cost of a replacement is steep. If these are irrepairable, and therefore throw-away items, perhaps the price tag needs to reflect this at the very least.

    mouse fails mechanically

    • Written by

I've used up a couple of these mice since I bought my G5. The first lasted only a few months, the second a couple of years. The first thing to go on both was the scroll button. The last mouse terminated with a variety of odd behaviors. I couldn't click on hot text in web pages; I couldn't click and drag; clicking on dock and desktop items just brought up a menu. I spent a couple of hours pursuing esoteric software issues, not easy when you can't navigate to the help files. Finally, I thought of trying the mouse from my ancient iMac. That mouse worked fine, even after a half dozen years of heavy use. The Mighty Mouse is swell when it works, but you'd better buy a backup mouse for that critical weekend when your Mighty Mouse goes west.

    scrolling not working anymore

    • Written by

Had thise mouse for a year and now the scroll ball doesn't scroll down anymore.

For the 3 times the scroll ball didn't work I cleaned it (with apple's instructions) and everything was fine, but at this time cleaning the scroll ball does not work anymore.

I thought this mouse would last a long time but I guess it didn't... Due to how the mouse was made there is no way to fix the scrolling, you can't even take the mouse apart. Seesh, what bad design.

Next time I buy a mouse it won't be a mighty mouse.

    finally, its just junk

    • Written by from Vancouver

when this mouse works, it quite good. I have had two, (wired and Bluetooth), and both have been plagued by trackballs that stop scrolling. The video on Apple Support helps a bit, but cleaning this mouse to keep it going is just a huge waste of time- and now, it will not scroll at all. Not to mention that its overpriced.....there is no guarantee, and no service. Straight to the garbage can!

As far as I am concerned, this product is a real insult to Apple customers.

    Good Mouse

    • Written by from San Antonio

This is the most useful mouse Apple has put out. The design is great and the functions are elgant and streamlined.

Cleaning the roller ball may be an issue. I've had mine for over a year and not had any problems. I use it everyday for at least 8 hrs at a time. Just keep your hands clean and no problems should arise with the roller ball.

    Scroll wheel never works properly

    • Written by from SHERMAN OAKS

Nice design, but i've had to replace the mouse 4 times over a two year period. Why? The scroll wheel stops working after a couple of months, due the the poor design of the small ball. I am a clean person, do not use food, or have dirty hands when using keyboard/mouse, yet even the smallest amount of natural accumulated dirt will render the scroll wheel inoperable.

    Beautiful but useless

    • Written by from Brooklyn

This mouse has a chronic problem of dirt clogging the scroll ball - there are plenty of reports on the Internet about this poor design problem. While Apple provides official cleaning instructions, they do not work well. Additionally, the mouse cannot be opened to clean without breaking it, since the body is glued together. As beautiful and elegant as it is, this mouse will become dysfunctional within a few months.

See the 12/28/12 Mr. Clean magic eraser solution - it works

    • Written by from yonkers

I looked at this suggestion from 12/28/12 even after I purchased a Rocksoul laser mouse for my Imac; it worked~
First, after using a magic eraser back and forth, it worked slightly better than not at all. But then, I read the whole review - the part about rolling the mouse scroll button back and forth vigorously over a clean piece paper. The dirt inside the mouse was wiped off on the clean piece of paper. I did this several times and now the mouse works just fine. Great solution!

I was irritated by this malfunction too, but I have to admit, after seeing what came off on that paper, that is makes sense that dirt and oils will effect the functioning of this - and any other - scroll button mouse.

Great Mouse - Easy cleaning fix when scroll ball doesn't work

    • Written by from New Hope

I have owned this mouse for about two years and just recently the scroll ball didn't work anymore when scrolling "up". Other than that the mouse has been perfect and between this mouse and the mag trackpad (which I also own) - I am not sure which one I like better. The mouse has some benefits that the trackpad doesn't match, but there are advantages of the trackpad as well. Anyway, like so many postings and subsequent bad ratings, I have eventually experienced that the scrolling mechanism failed. I looked up some of the positive reviews here and took a can of spray electronic cleaner (I was out of the compressed air / dust removal spray can stuff) and sprayed the cleaner into the scroll ball area. Within about a minutes the mouse was just fine and everything worked again. Great mouse! I continue to enjoy it and am not planning to replace it. Just needed a few seconds of cleaning.

    $50 poorly engineered product

    • Written by from Rancho Cucamonga

I'm actually kinda shocked at Apple for this - The issues with mouse scrolling have been very well documented and lots of people are complaining about this.

I have purchased mice that cost $8 and worked for years. I am now on my third Apple mouse, (at $50 a pop!) within 6 months.

I tried all the tricks....cleaning, rolling it upside down on paper, etc. multiple times. This is just a poorly engineered item. Really, a $50 mouse should work for more than 30 days.

Going to buy a cheap logitech that, while ugly, at least will work reliably.

Clean the Mouse roller ball!! It works!!

    • Written by from ASHLAND

This guy with the comment below has the trick! I tried it and it worked! I took his advise, got a Q tip and dipped in rubbing alcohol and rubbed it on the little ball and saw little tiny hairs and things come out. I just kept doing it till it was completely clean and it works great again!! Thanks so much.

All the posts about this mouse is about how the scroll bar doesn't work after a while. I saw a review about using Rubbing Alcohol and a Q-tip to fix it. It Works! Just take a Qtip, dip it in rubbing alcohol and then scroll around on the mouse with it. After all the gunk in out the scroll will work again! thanks so much for the tip!
