    Might Only Briefly

    • Written by from DAYTON

The mouse works really well out of the box. Then in about 6 months the scroll ball get dirty and there is no effective way to clean it. It is not removable. For the money, there are many better choices.
Apple, you make great stuff but you struck-out on the Mighty Mouse.

    Worst Apple Product Ever

    • Written by from Eugene

I don't even know where to begin with this thing - it is all around absolutely the worst Apple product I have ever owned, but I guess the worst thing is its ability to function as a mouse. Anyone who has the two-button functionality enabled knows the exquisite headache of trying to intuit what this small plastic egg will recognize as a right click or a left. The "side" buttons are a special treat as well - they are awkward to use, and don't tend to click "off" very well. The one redeeming point is the scroll wheel, which seems to function okay. So if you only need to scroll infinitely through one document, you're set. For those of us that need to use Sketchup or similar multi-click dependent programs, we must resort to third-party mice. Apple, please test future mice in people's hands, not in store windows.

Awful mouse - avoid if possible

    • Written by from Utrecht

This is simply the worst designed piece of equipment I have to use. After the 10.4.9 update my Microsoft mouse I had been using, stopped working reliably (it interprets single clicks double or triple, making OS X a hazardous place to mouse around in).

So I'm back on the bundled wired Mighty Mouse, which sadly is an oxymoron. It's too low for my medium sized hands and the scroll button needs cleaning several times a day now.

I don't have grimey hands, just 'real world' hands. It's odd that so many bad reviews, all about the flawed design of the scroll button go unnoticed.

It's been out for a while but could definitely use a second generation that addresses these problems. Or they could fix it that my Microsoft mouse works again, since that one's ergonomically sound.

This one was bundled, I won't be buying a replacement and advise everyone to stay away from this flawed piece of tech.

    Won't scroll down

    • Written by from Valley Village

It was great at first, but...I have the same problem about scrolling--after only a few months, the scroll ball will only scroll UP, but not DOWN! And the movement of the mouse is slow and scratchy on any surface. Disappointing.

The SCROLL BALL becomes quite uncooperative. I've owned my computer for less than a year and my the scroll bar is already giving me problems. Apple, this is unacceptable!!

    Worst. Mouse. Ever.

    • Written by from Montgomery Village

This is most unreliable and undependable mouse I've ever used. It scrolls only occasionally, and has the most annoying habit of bringing up the widgets when I don't want them. I am really, really disappointed with this product--I often feel like taking a hammer to it. YUCK.

    "Mighty Mouse" it is not

    • Written by from Auburn

Only reason I gave it 1 star is because you can't give it zero stars. Like others here, the thing
works great. At first. Problems arise AFTER that stupid ball gets dirty or whatever happens to
it. Thankfully, I have the extended warranty on my MacPro. The computer works great. The mouse?
I am on the THIRD ONE. THREE!!! Ridiculous. And that is after I cleaned the bloody things time and
time again. It got to the point where they didn't work at all. Apple missed on this one - big time.
Sad thing is, as far as I know, you need to have the Apple mouse, otherwise I would go and get a
mouse with the wheel on it. Hey Apple engineers - change the ball to a wheel. Hopefully, by the time this one gives out, I can get one that actually works and lasts.

As everybody knows by now, the scroll ball is impossible to clean and regularly malfunctions. The side buttons are very stiff and useless. It is ambiguous about a left click and a right click. Why can't Apple make a good mouse?

    another scroll ball failure

    • Written by from Marietta

I've owned my imac for 5 months... add me to the long list of defective scroll balls. My mighty mouse no longer scrolls up. It's a shame a company that puts such a high price on quality products has missed the mark with such a critical component.

Not ergonomic or functional - very pretty though

    • Written by from Ealing

Wanted to add my confirmation of what everyone has said.
    Love the look, but:
    - Roller often ceases to work
    - Right click often fails
    - Often left click instead of right accidentally (and vice versa)
    - middle click requires practice to achieve, it has no 'intuitively correct feel' to it
    - Side buttons (button 4) is HARD to operate, ultra awkward
    - Button 4 has no tactile detection, you have to look at the mouse to feel if your finger/thumb is on it before pressing
    - Removal of battery cover is just plain difficult and is a frankly hit and miss operation and feels like it will fail if used to often
    - On/off switch is unnecessarily difficult to operate
    - roller ball is too small for delicate movements
    - Design is intrinsically 'rattley', does not feel good
    - bluetooth connection is frequently iffy, often will not connect at start up time
    - took some time for me to find the correct fixes to make bluetooth work at all (had manually download patches as they were not offered to me routinely), that is, I had to go and find them.

Apart from that, it DOES look nice.

NOT a satisfied customer. I would have rated it at 0 (if that was an option) because the device generally fails to function sufficiently well and the price is too high.

This is by far the worst product in the Apple Line, and has been since the last generation of Apple products! First of all, unless your wear latex gloves whenever you use the mouse, your natural hand oils WILL (not might, will) clog the scroll ball within as little as four months. Second, and this makes me hate the mouse even more than the first reason, is that the contour of the mouse is totally not ergonomic, and honestly really uncomfortable. I don't know who's hand a mouse like this is supposed to fit, but it you do any design or precise computer work (hell, even if your browsing the internet), this mouse will make your hand uncomfortable. Also as a third point, has anyone else noticed that this mouse matches NOTHING in the current Apple product line?

    Complete Disaster

    • Written by from Ottawa

I have had 5 mighty mouses in the last 2 years and all of them after a couple of months had the same problem. The scroll ball stop working! I canot beleive that to this day, Apple hasnt done something to fix this problem. It is quit sad. The problem is quite simple, when using the scroll ball, dust gets inside the mouse and eventually, the scroll ball loses its traction. I strongly advise againts buying this mouse.

Why can't Apple correct the Mighty Mouse faulty design?

    • Written by from Tualatin

It's been three years and the Mighty Mouse (wired or wireless, I've got both) still only lasts a month before the ball stops working. Seriously, how can Apple keep selling a defective design for all this time without fixing it? And how can we consumers keep buying it? I'm about ready to send back (under AppleCare) for my 4th Mighty Mouse because they get to the point where you can't even clean them to get them to work anymore. Once AppleCare ends, I'm off to a competitor.

Worst Mouse I've ever used (reasons included)

    • Written by from Oceanside

Problems include the following. The right click ability is horribly insensitive. As a result I often try to right click but it left clicks instead. I really have to get my finger all the way to the right side of the mouse to get a right click to occur. This means I have to pay much greater attention to my clicking.. Which is annoying and disruptive to my work flow.

Because of its design you cannot pickup the mouse and move it and keep the click depressed. So if you are trying to do a very long click/drag for some reason and run out of mouse pad. The click releases when you picukup the mouse to move it and you loose your drag. HORRIBLE design here I cannot tell you how irritating this is.

Those two flaws alone make this the worst mouse I've ever used. It's my main input into my Mac and it should be so simple and elegant that I don't even have to think about it being there. Unfortunetly with the mighty mouse I'm constantly reminded that it is there because it's constantly doing what I don't want it to do.

Ok, I love this mouse—when it's new. Great feel and sensitivity, aesthetics, etc. BUT, I have to buy a new one every 3 months. As others have noticed, the scroll ball gums up and the thing becomes useless, as there is no way to open it up without a hammer. And as if this weren't bad enough, usually before its inevitable demise the mouse begins this rapid ghost clicking thing. Without me pressing anything it spaz-clicks over items I'm working on. click-click-click-click! screws up my work!

Thus far my solution has been (to Apple's delight) to buy a new mouse every few months but this is ridiculous for obvious reasons. Can someone either slap Apple or tell me a good alternative to their mouse? Or just do both?

    Apple should be ashamed.

    • Written by from MARYSVILLE

This is the third mighty mouse to fail me in a little over a year. Despite cleaning the scroll ball they all eventually fail. I'm truly surprised that someone has not initiated a class action law suit against Apple for this miserable product. If it was an el' cheapo mouse that would be one thing, but these are expensive. If this was car part it would be recalled, if it was an aircraft part the FAA would ground it, if it was a medical device the FDA would ban it.

    Epic Fail

    • Written by from Mentor on the Lake

I am a major Mac fan - got it all: macbook, imac, iphone, ipod, you get the picture. The mouse that came with my imac started to booger up about 6 months after purchase: scroll ball becomes temperamental. Eventually stopped working all together. Got a second one ... now 8 months out, same thing. I'm done with this "Not-so-Mighty Mouse"! I'll be getting a different mouse. It's the only Apple product I've had problems with, but geez, after searching, this is a chronic issue with this product - FIX IT PEOPLE!! Why would you want us to have all these fabulous electronics and get a lame mouse to ruin the experience! Needs a redesign, that's for SURE!

    Scroll Ball is Terrible

    • Written by from Seattle

The Apple Store uses adjectives such as innovative, revolutionary, and amazing to describe the scroll ball on this mouse. Frustrating and useless is a much more accurate description. It will occasionally work fine for awhile but then it will stop. Often it will scroll in one direction only which is much more frustrating than not working at all. I've used three of these. They have all had the problem. I've come across many mice that I didn't like but none have been more annoying than the Mighty Mouse.
