    Rubbing Alcohol Really works!

    • Written by from Edmonton

All the posts about this mouse is about how the scroll bar doesn't work after a while. I saw a review about using Rubbing Alcohol and a Q-tip to fix it. It Works! Just take a Qtip, dip it in rubbing alcohol and then scroll around on the mouse with it. After all the gunk in out the scroll will work again! thanks so much for the tip!

    Good mouse so far

    • Written by from Milan

This mouse came with a Mac Pro, but I do not use it with it. I use my trusty old Kensington Optical Elite. I do use the mighty mouse on my G3 however. It is my nostalgic classic setup, running Mac OS 9.2.1, so the scroll wheel doesn't work anyway, so I cannot comment on that. It is an optical mouse...nothing more or less. It works great on my system, comfortable, reliable.

    Scroll ball flaws

    • Written by from Downsview

The mouse is definitely an improvement from the older apple mouse. It works great for about a year, then the scroll ball stops working. Mine scrolled up, but it wouldnt scroll down. Heres the trick, instead of going out and buying a new mouse, just dip a qtip in rubbing alcohol and let it drip into the scroll ball hole, then use the qtip to turn the ball around over and over again. Viola, its fixed.

    A Sleeper

    • Written by from Madera

I hated this mouse the first time i used it six months ago so much that I shoved it in a drawer..I needed another mouse though so I pulled it out recently after using a scroll wheel mouse and realized that I've been missing out without it. This mouse is great especially the scroll ball which allows for sideways scrolling as well.

    A Great Innovative Mouse

    • Written by from PORT SAINT LUCIE

As a new mac users (iMac) I can say that at first I didnt like this mouse at all. It seemed to sensitive, and the lack of an obvious right and left button was uncomfortable. However, after using it for a few days I grew very comfortable with it, and the center ball is fantastic for vertical and horizontal scrolling. The base is sturdy and solid which is great, my old mouse had feet the eventually became uneven. You can customize all the buttons so versatility is there. Overall a great innovative product. Take some getting used to , especially coming from a typical windows setup but it worth sticking with. Change is always tuff at first.

    3 years.

I've had this mighty mouse for three years, and it is still working fine. However, at times the scroll wouldn't work, but it'll start working again in about 5 minutes or so.

    Nice Mouse!

    • Written by from Troutdale

When I purchase my Mac Mini, I wanted to get all Apple related items to go with it. The Mighty Mouse is a very nice optical mouse that is easy to use and the functions of the mouse are awesome. Way to go Apple on such a nice mouse with advanced technology! I love how customizable this mouse is and how you can access the Dashboard, Expose, and many other features that Mac OS X has to offer all through various clicks of the mouse. The only thing that can be an annoyance is that the sides of the mouse can be bumped, opening Expose when your in the middle of something, but other than that, it's a great mouse.

    Fantastic Mouse

    • Written by from Santa Clara

I'm a photographer and videographer, and it's essential I have a speedy mouse at my fingertips. When you're editing 400 photos from the last photo shoot, and need to access through your Photoshop Actions menu, this little mouse comes in quite handy. I love the scroll wheel; the 360º wheel is exactly what I need to fly through presets or photos. I also have a Logitech MX, and like it for its sturdiness and greater button features. The Mighty Mouse is a good mouse just for the scroll wheel, but its build quality is low, and it's just too light. I like mice that are heavier because I can get more control that way; but this mouse is just too light for adjusting the small two-to-three-pixel editing I do on Photoshop.

    Works Well with MacBook Pro

    • Written by from South Lake Tahoe

I wrote another review saying I didn't care much for the way the right button functions didn't work to well. I also noted the tracking was slow compared to the Logitech Bluetooth Mice. I wish to amend my previous review.

I like this mouse with my new MacBook Pro. For scrolling through lots of files in a hurry, it is quite amazing. I'm using it on a molded plastic table and it's working well. I will try to find the perfect mouse pad, if there is such a thing.

I would give it a 5 star review, but I feel there is room for improvement, however slight.

    Two years later.. working fine!

    • Written by from New Philadelphia

This mouse gets some pretty terrible reviews.
Mine however is still working great after two years.

Admittedly I have had to clean the trackball two or three times in that period.
What has worked for me is to unplug the mouse, take a wet paper towel and use it scroll the ball in all directions for a minute or two. Then let it dry for a few hours. Works for me - back to new.

It's a shame the wireless mighty mouse isn't as flawless.

scroll ball half dead and i still love it

    • Written by from East Pembroke

I have a microsoft mouse before this, I purchased this as soon as it was released. A year or so later the down function of the scroll ball stopped working. Its annoying but I have no purchased a new one figuring I am looking to get a new computer soon and WILL be bettering another with it. The right click is great, comfortable and I am sure by now they have made the scroll ball better. A must for any fan of mac and mac hardware.

Spend the extra $20 and go wireless

    • Written by from Buffalo Grove

When i bought my mac book pro, i figured just get the wired mouse. It's cheaper. But the fact of the matter, is that if it were wireless it would work a lot better. The mouse works great, as is, the only two gripes i have, are that the wire gets in the way, and the scroll ball is a little touchy, but other than that, THIS IS A GREAT MOUSE, BUT SPEND THE EXTRA $ AND GO WIRELESS!!!

    Great but bad

    • Written by from Floral Park

Overall this is a great mouse and would recommend it to mac and pc users. However!!! A big however, like almost everyone else here (at least from what I've read) the scroll button seems to be a disaster. Mine got to the point where I had no down scroll and intermittent right scrolling. Surfed the web to find out that it's a super common problem, and that you can take apart the mouse to get to the scroll wheel. Once I got the mouse apart, I was astonished to see how the scroll button works. It's pretty rediculous, you think that the ball is tiny... the components are even worse ---| (I think that's a replica of how small the scroll controls are.) After I degunked it, it all works fine. However, now i have a mouse with no seal - unless i superglue it, which i won't do because it'll most likely have to be cleaned out again. I think that apple needs to re-think the scroller since it's a staple of today's computing.

    Great...but I have a problem...

I love the mouse, and not just because it's an Apple product. My only problem is that I can't scroll down. What's going on?!

    Close...but not perfect

    • Written by from SAINT LOUIS

Like the others have mentioned, the scroll ball is definitely the weak spot on this otherwise really nice mouse. However, I keep my keyboard, desk, and hands clean, and this really minimizes any problems. Once every couple of months, the scroll ball malfunctions and won't go in a certain direction. I find that turning the mouse over and scrubbing the scroll ball on my pant leg for a few seconds usually knocks the ball out of whatever position it's stuck in. A small vexation really, and not any cause for me to cry out "Redesign it and reimburse us!!"

Works Great...But Cord is WAY Too Short!

    • Written by from Syracuse

Just brought a new iMac and while the system is top notch, the cord on the mouse is too short (as is the cord for the keyboard). Constantly having to pick up the mouse and work within the parameters of the short cord. On the other hand, the iMac is the best home computer I've ever owned as I am a recent convert from Windows based systems to this system and additionally I also purchased a new MacBook Pro. Don't let a short cord cause to you skip a purchase however...this is a great product!

    Adicted to scroll ball

    • Written by from Aurora

I have four of these mice - two at home and two at work - and only one has had problems. One has a scroll ball that no longer works perfectly, and that is the one the kids use the most. The other three work perfectly, two after 6 months and the other after more than a year. I have had more expensive mice go bad, and am used to getting 15-18 months out of a mouse due to heavy use.
What I like about this most is the scroll ball. Wow! Getting around a Photoshop or Quark document is a dream, and it works nearly as well in a spreadsheet. When I have to use a linear scroll wheel I feel crippled.

Works great a few months at a time.

    • Written by from Woodland Hills

I give the Mighty Mouse four stars because it is, in fact, a great product. Obviously being built exclusively for Mac OS X has its advantages. It's small and compact, and you can program any of its buttons to do whatever you want, such as right-click, launch the Dashboard, activate Spotlight, etc.

But the biggest problem with the Mighty Mouse is it only works as advertised for, say, three to four months. It's usually around this time you start to notice the scroll ball isn't working so well. The problem is that dust and debris somehow finds its way into the cavity that holds the scroll ball, hindering its movement. And to compound this problem, Apple refuses to make it easy to access the scroll ball and clean it. Sure, you can take your mouse apart, but at the expense of cracking and ruining the outer ring. And even then, you still have to pull the shell apart, disconnect some ribbon cables and then unscrew the little cavity holding the scroll ball. It's far too much work for such a necessary task to keep your mouse in top shape. Apple needs to redesign the mouse in such a way that the bottom very easily snaps off, with immediate access to the ball, so it's easily cleaned and back in use.
