    Ok, wireless would be better

This mouse is really cool- it's got lots of buttons which you can set up to do a lot of different things. The scroll wheel lets you scroll 360 degrees. The only thing that gets really annoying is the cord. It might not be as "in the way" if I were using a desktop computer, but when you're using it with a Macbook, it gets in the way. The other thing is that it's hard to carry the mouse around with the cord sticking out. (Yes, you can wrap it around, but that becomes tedious after a couple times.) Overall, it's a great mouse, but it would be better if it was wireless. If I had a choice, I would spend the extra money and buy the wireless and multi-touch Magic Mouse 2.

Nice Product But last's Only So Long

For 20 dollars I would go again with this product. Fifty, not ever again at this cost. As others have said, it is of a truth that when dirt gets into this baby & it does no matter what over time, she just shuts down. I've taken mine apart many times and cleaned it, and this is not an easy task. It would then work again for a while until dirty again. Fixed it so much that now it's unfixable. Looking for a more economical mouse now,,,,,,,Apple, lower the cost to 20 dollars & I would buy it again.......

    The jury is still out

I'm still not sure whether this mouse is going to work out for me. The layout feels a little odd - with the side buttons directly opposite one another, I feel like I'm holding the mouse at an odd angle to keep my thumb and ring finger on the side buttons. I'm beginning to get used to the right click, but I've had trouble with it sometimes - if I don't click with my middle finger far enough to the right, it's seen as a left click. The side buttons work but they take a pretty hard squeeze and offer no tactile feedback at all.

I may get used to it and I may not - only time will tell. I'll have to revise this review after a month or two.

Why is the cable so short?

Why would you design the mouse with such a short cable when you've also designed the previous Macbook Pro with all the usb ports on the left hand side? really apple, that's your definition of a great design?

See the 12/28/12 Mr. Clean magic eraser solution - it works

I looked at this suggestion from 12/28/12 even after I purchased a Rocksoul laser mouse for my Imac; it worked~
First, after using a magic eraser back and forth, it worked slightly better than not at all. But then, I read the whole review - the part about rolling the mouse scroll button back and forth vigorously over a clean piece paper. The dirt inside the mouse was wiped off on the clean piece of paper. I did this several times and now the mouse works just fine. Great solution!

I was irritated by this malfunction too, but I have to admit, after seeing what came off on that paper, that is makes sense that dirt and oils will effect the functioning of this - and any other - scroll button mouse.

    wire too short, stops scrolling

I agree about the scroll wheel issue so many have commented on. I just got mine back working (only 6 months old) by using compressed air. Hope it stays fixed. Last time I followed advice I found on-line and tried rolling the wheel back and forth vigorously. That did not work this time.

I wouldn't mind a longer cord either. Also, it is very finicky about the cut and paste right click location. You have to monkey around with it to find a mysterious sweet spot so that pop-up menu with cut and paste options shows.

It's true that when it comes to mice, Apple needs to hire some Logitech engineers. I loved my wireless Logitech mouse with my MacBook. Maybe I will go back to using that instead...

Good at being a mouse, but flawed.

For one thing, this mouse is quite overpriced at essentially 50 dollars (for a wired mouse? Really?). It doesn't have a solid feel in the hand, since it is plastic and weighs nearly nothing. It hardly matches with the recent Apple build-quality aesthetic.

The ball is cool since it allows you to scroll 360º, but it's so small that it takes irritatingly long to scroll through long documents.

The absolute worst part is that if you try using this with a Macbook that doesn't have a standalone keyboard, you're out of luck. The cord is short to make it look like desk candy, but it prevent right-handed users (ie most of the world) from simply using the mouse with their computer. Huge oversight/laziness on the part of the designers.

    Needs Improvement

It starts working fine with ease, simplicity & beauty as promoted, but that starts fading away after a while & there's nothing one can do about it. The most annoying problem is the scrolling. Maybe it's because we the Apple customers consider your products to be excellent or flawless, but I went ahead & bought the same mouse even when the first one failed, yet the same happened again. I need a third mouse at this moment.

This mouse is AWESOME. However, after about a year the ball mont work and you cannot scroll! Not cool. Over all, a good mouse but not for 50.00.

    The paper method plus

The roller ball clog is a huge, ongoing problem. But, I tried the paper method discussed earlier (unplugging mouse and rolling the ball on a piece of paper) and it partially worked. So, I took it a step further and rolled the ball on a hand sanitizer sheet and it worked great. Hope this helps.

    Years Ago It Was Great!

When I had my first Mac, I really liked this mouse. Now though, owning a Magic Mouse, it is total rubbish. The scroll ball is not very good and the right click is nearly impossible. Unlike the wired Apple keyboard, the wired mouse would not be worth the $20.00 you save.

    Scroll ball is awful!

If this comes free with your Mac, you may want to keep it, but do not buy it as an extra. $40+ for a mouse like this is ridiculous. The track ball is difficult to use even when new, and on mine started having issues after only a few months; I ended up having to clean it every month just so it would operate even close to normal. Eventually I found a mac-compatible mouse at another site for $29 and it's been working perfectly for over a year.

    Constantly have to fix it

I find this mouse really cute and stylish but this scroll bar gets dirty and does not work properly way too often. It doesn't get messed up entirely, but it requires more care than other mice I've used.

Engineering issues need to be addressed

I'm on my third one in two years. And the one I have now has also succumbed to lousy engineering. It's the infamous trackball issue. So I will now need to replace it as well. This time the ball won't even move forward. That makes four in two years. Surely, an innovative company like Apple is capable of designing a piece of hardware that lasts more than six months. If I could figure out how to disassemble the thing I would fix it myself.

    Scroll ball - No good

The mouse works very well but the scroll ball broke after 6 months. I can't scroll using the ball. i tried using the trouble shooting tips but no luck. I would buy the magic mouse, works a lot better
