    Dead Mouse

I've had this mouse since I purchased my iMac over three years ago and within a year of using it the mouse ball started behaving erratically. Sometimes the down vertical function would not work then the up vertical function would stop working. I tried various techniques to get the ball to start working again but no sooner would it start behaving normally then it would stop working again. Initially the time frame between these incidents was months, but now it happens every other day. I'm at the end of my rope with this little pain in the #@!* and I'm shopping around for another mouse. It's a shame Apple couldn't get this right. All the other functions on it work flawlessly and are enormously helpful, but that darn ball problem is what ruins an otherwise great product.

And im still in warranty and this problem stills since August 2010.

    Worst mouse ever

I'm now on my third mouse, and the scroll ball is dead on this one too. Thank God for Apple Care. This mouse is a great idea that just doesn't work. Apple should discontinue it and refund or replace with a better product. Get a better mouse.

    Apple Mouse

I got to say, this mouse works perfectly. I love the 360 degree scroll. Actually, I got an iMac, keyboard, and this mouse for free! (thanks to my awesome uncle, it came with Windows Vista!!! LOL!) This machine is a white Intel 2006 iMac... so that must mean this mouse is almost 5 years old! This mouse still is really good, and even the track ball works great. I recomend this mouse, although I do not like the pricing on this... it should be $20... but still deserves 5 stars.

    Apple Mouse

I had this mouse less than 6 months and the roller ball on the top started acting up.,by 8 months that feature did not work. I am not a computer wizard by even the lowest level so it is very frustrating for me to try to use my computer. I would look into buying something sturdier.

    Cleaning the Ball

Use some Windex(without Ammonia) or Cinch (a cleaning product I use).
    Turn Mouse upside down.
    Spray ball.
Keeping ball upside down, press ball into a washcloth and move it in every direction until it is dry.
Repeat this procedure using a piece of printer paper until ball is dry and there is no residue coming off the ball.

    Good for another 10,000 miles.

This is NOT a disposable mouse. Clean it this way.
    You cannot take it apart.
Apple WILL NOT publicly recommend using a cleaner, HOWEVER all the Techs and Store employees do it this way.

My cordless Mighty Mouse is 3 years old and is still kicking and clicking.

An obvious piece of advice: The cleaner you keep your hands, the longer your Mighty Mouse will go between cleanings.

    cord is way too short

Unfortunately, since the USB inputs on my MacBook are only on the left (???WHY???) the cord barely reaches to the right making the mouse almost useless for right-handed people. Do I have to go buy a USB extension cord now? Uggh!

    Cheap mouse

i thought when i bought an iMac I was buying quality... the mouse (wired) that came with it is basically useless after a short time... it can't be cleaned properly... it is so frustrating... and it's not an infrequent problem judging from this site....

    I love this mouse but...

I really love this mouse, it came with my computer and I've really gotten used to it, so much so I can't use any other mouse! They're pretty durable, but the scroller ball dosen't always work well. I wish this mouse was wireless, my old mouse's wire broke. All in all its a great mouse and I couldn't live without the squeeze feature!

This mouse is not worth your money. It is not easy to clean the track ball and jams up all the time. Not worth fifty bucks!!!

    Mouse With Built in Obsolesence

I've had this mouse for just over 1 year....the cursor jumps all over the page from the very start. Then the page up scroll went bad...now it's the page down scroll.
Surely with all of the complaints on this side re: this product, Apple would have fixed it by now!!!
    What's the story?

    Trackball is horrible

Just to add to what so many have said already... the little trackball jams up frequently and is very frustrating. However, it is relatively easy to "un-jam" by simply turning the mouse upside down and rubbing the trackball briskly back and forth on a clean sheet of paper until the offending grit comes out and the ball moves freely again. I find myself repeating this maneuver at least daily as the scrolling function grinds to a halt when some tiny piece of grit or dust from my finger finds its way under the ball. Ridiculous product from a company like Apple who is so committed to quality and user experience. This mouse will drive you mad. Get something else!

    Beware of the trackball!

This is a beautiful mouse! But keep this in mind, While it may look like a brilliant mouse, consider the following:
    - The sensors on the side that usually enable expose spaz out often
    - ANY dirt that gets under the trackball, you might as well buy a new one rather than trying to fix it.
    - $49.99 to replace the mouse (especially if your trackball fails.
    - (Have I mentioned the trackball ?)

The Bluetooth wireless version of this mouse lasts better than the wired version. Food For thought.

Trackball Function doesn't last more than a year

Owned three of these in a row and every time the trackball function fritzed out. To prevent repair/cleaning Apple built it like a tank with lots of glue so it becomes very tricky should you try to open it for this.

    Never again!

If the MagicMouse also is this bad I'll have to consider to buy normal Windows-Mouses again. Shame on you Apple!

    poor scroll ball

I had three (3) of these in less than two years and every single time the scroll ball will stop working properly after 4-6 months of use. I followed the instructions to clean the ball, etc, etc. It doesn't matter. This is just a poorly designed mouse.

If it only worked all the time

Since everything is still under warranty I will keep replacing it. I have had my system a little over a year and I am on my 4th mouse already. The previous 3 stopped scrolling, and none of the little tricks I read about did anything to fix the problem. I have had no problem with Apple in getting a replacement. I hope they realize the scroll ball is susceptible to failure and are developing a more suitable replacement.

    Horrible Mouse

I got one of these from my work to accompany my Macbook pro and the roller-ball stopped working after two weeks. I got a second one and the roller-ball stopped working after 3 weeks. So I found an old USB Microsoft mouse and it works great. Do not buy this mouse, its is expensive and a waste of your money when you can get a better one for less than $20 elsewhere.
