It is potentially not bad but in reality it isn't exactly good.

    • Written by from Struthers

I want to like this mouse, but I can't. Right click/left click. It's all a big guess. Even when I press on the absolute far right and far left sides, the mouse still can't make up its mind.

I like the touch, sort of. It's a nice idea that works but doesn't work. Things can be going fine and then I just touch it in the right way... uh oh, there went the text box that I was typing in. Swiping on it is convenient except when it isn't. This mouse is just a continuous contradiction.

I would prefer it if my logitech mouse from my windows PC worked on this computer. It's far more usable than this magic mouse and all of the buttons do what they're supposed to do. Sadly, logitech doesn't support OS X very well.

    Magic - don't think so

    • Written by from Princeville

I have loved the magic mouse when it has worked, which is only a percentage of the time, I have developed severe tendonitis in my mouse hand and now the mouse has quit on me so I am looking at replacing it with a track pad in it's place. After reading other reviews about the design of the mouse causing wrist injury I have to wonder about who is minding the designs for Apple whom I generally adore and own stock in… Now I am looking for plan b.

    Not worth it.

    • Written by from Windsor

The touchpad is great, and having a wireless mouse on your desktop seems like a good enough idea - until your batteries start dying on you in the middle of doing something at least once a month.

After a few years, mine started losing its connection all the time - even with full battery. I think what happens is the batteries jostle around inside and then it loses power for just a second. Then it loses connection and stops working, and I have to wait a few minutes for the computer to find it again. My mouse loses connection like 10 times a day now. It's all but useless. I'm going to have to go buy a wired mouse, because this is just stupid.

    Apple Magic Mouse

    • Written by from Escondido

I have gone through two of the Magic Mouse's (aka Mice) in two and a half years. The first one broke. The second one keeps loosing connection. It seems to be overly sensitive to just moving across the mouse pad. A very little pressure on the battery compartment door turns the mouse on and off and this seems to be the cause it loses connectivity. Naturally one month after the warrantee expired so did my second mouse. Lucky I still have my old Apple wired mouse. Apple needs to replace this Magic Mouse with a mouse that reflects the quality of its other products. Except for this mouse, I have been extremely pleased with Apple products and their quality.

    dissappointed

    • Written by from Houston

previous mouse design would tell you when battery life is low(indicator at top of screen shows). this one just stops-no warning. this one's metal strip/bottom will fall off fairly easy. its a flimsy mouse...poorly designed

Looks nice but feels cráppy — Apple censorship :(

    • Written by from Munich

I really miss a real, haptic mouse wheel that you can actually touch an spin. Using the mouse I always scroll accidentally and the surface feels hard und not necessarily what I would call "convenient and enjoyable".

    Loses Connection CONSTANTLY

    • Written by from Lake Oswego

Sometimes the mouse will lose its wireless connection every few hours but sometimes it loses connection every couple of minutes. Plenty of blogs out there complaining of this so I am not alone. There are lots of theories how to solve it but I have found none of them to work. I'm so aggravated by constantly having to restore the wireless connection that I'm giving up and retiring the mouse. Very disappointing product from Apple.

    Good design but poor precision

    • Written by from Fremont

Very good design and nice features like single finger and multi finger swipes but the biggest problem is the precision of the mouse. Have to move the mouse way too farther to cover the 21.5 inches area of my iMac. No way close to even the entry level Logitech mouse's precision. Sad, apple not paying attention on the main aspect of mouse.

Very sleek in design however the mouse is too heavy and a bit cumbersome to use. Replacing with the touch pad today!

Buy it just for decoration not for the work.

    • Written by from Golden Valley

Looks very cool and stylish but doesn't feel the same way when you hold it and using.
Ok for internet browsing but terrible if you work with any graphic applications, your project will fly away from you and not always come back (my guess, too sensitive)

too heavy and not as responsive as other mice

    • Written by from Normal

While I love the fact that I can scroll up, down and sideways, the batteries make it too heavy. Can you make one without batteries? I personally feel blue tooth is over rated, it isn't as responsive as the UBS mice and I don't like having to maneuver a heavy mouse.

Needs 3rd and 4th Buttons as well as other improvements

    • Written by from Fort Collins

just got mine, here are some first impressions.

it looks sweet! i prefer form over function, though. i am so used to using the 3rd and 4th buttons on my mighty mouse. the new one does not have this great, efficiency boosting feature. it also would be great if while holding function, ctrl, optn, or cmnd while scrolling, the screen jumped the top of the page. APPLE: read this and get the software updates going!

doesn't quite feel as comfortable, either. perhaps i'm not holding it correctly?

hindsight 20/20...i woulda stuck with my good ol' mighty mouse

    Don't get the excitement

    • Written by from Boca Raton

I really don't understand the excitement over this thing-- I used it for a while, then wound up putting it in a drawer. It looks nice, but wanders around (drifts) way too much, which when using word or excel can be amazingly frustrating. I am never sure where I am. It also doesn't fit into the hand nicely, so I am always having to watch where my hand is on this thing, lest I start some function I don't want to happen. It also makes my hand sore--which is to say, you have to pay way to much attention to it. The previous mice have their problems, but at least they stay in place--there were times when I wanted to throw this thing against the wall. But I just put it in the drawer instead. Once again, too much design over function.

    mouse review

    • Written by from Escondido

After a few months the mouse does not track. I've changed the batteries twice, reconnected twice. Still does not track. That's a lot of money to spend on a mouse with a short lifespan. I just past the warranty time frame, still I will take it back to the Apple Store to complain.

The sides of the mouse. Ick.

    • Written by from Milaca

I just bought this mouse. I really like the multi-touch surface, but this is really uncomfortable to use. Perhaps I have large hands and the mouse is average sized, but every other mouse I have ever used has been the right size. I also do not like the fact that the sides of the mouse are not rounded. The sides are sharp. It is not comfortable to use at all. I have gone back to my mighty mouse. If Apple decided to make the mouse larger, and round the edges of the mouse, then it would be fine.

    No magic to this mouse

    • Written by from Ottawa

I am an avid apple user and I rarely write a bad review.
This is probably one of the worst gadgets made by apple. Conceptually and esthetically perfect, yet practically deficient. Overly sensitive in some instances yet the opposite in others, hence reliability becomes an issue. Also, whatever you do, do not download MagicPrefs.app as your mouse will definitely get a mind of its own and becomes utterly unpredictable and frustrating.
I know its cute, but so is a real mouse, that does not mean I want to own one.
My feedback is based on 3 of these units in my immediate environment as I had bought one for my brother and sister as well as mine....
    with identical problems.

Hard to hold and too light

    • Written by from Austin

The overall quality, fit and finish, and of course the touch-sensitive surface are very nice, but this mouse is far too small and too low profile to comfortably hold or move. What's worse is that it's so light that attempting to finger-swipe the surface just knocks the mouse around unless you are pinching it between thumb and ring finger and swiping with your index and middle fingers. End result? Worthless and uncomfortable to use for any length of time. I regret purchasing it.

It lacks buttons like many other apple products

    • Written by from Petaling Jaya

This is a good looking mouse however it lacks buttons. It does not have middle mouse button which makes it not a good mouse. Nowadays middle mouse button plays a very important role in many software such as XSI, Maya, 3ds MAX, Mudbox, Unity, Shiva and etc. So when it does not have it, it becomes like a cute piece of garbage. Hope that apple hears us and make "at least" the MMB for this product.
