    Really Poor Battery Life

    • Written by from Saint Louis

I purchased a magic mouse with my iMac about six months ago, and have been shocked at how quickly it runs through batteries. I have rechargeable AAs but have to swap them out every couple of weeks when -- out of nowhere -- the mouse will lose its connection to the computer. The mouse is also very slow to reconnect, or start back up when it wakes up out of sleep mode. Although I like the mouse when it works, the poor battery life alone makes it not worth the purchase.

    Poor Ergonomics and Usability

    • Written by from Dallas

I've used high DPI gaming mouses (not for games, though) before and tried this mouse. This mouse is too slow even if I make the tracking speed as fast as possible and it is far less precise and has poor ergonomics.

I'm returning this mouse. It's a shame because the touch gesture feature is so nice..

    -Touch gesture

    -Poor ergonomics
-Click requires a lot of pressure
    -Slow/imprecise tracking
    -Too much friction

I was hesitating to write this review..yes I am an Apple cultist....but I am throughly disappointed in the Magic Mouse that is not...well...very magical. There are many who love it and I give kuddoes to those who do...however I am on my second Magic Mouse. I bought a new iMac 21.5 about a month ago and had so many problems with the mouse Apple replaced it.
Perhaps my problem is that I am not used to it yet....I can't tell you how many times I have been on the Internet and filling out a form or writing something in a forum, etc and the page suddenly moves/disappears...I must have accidentally breathed on the mouse and I end up losing what I was doing..."sigh" is all I can say. I am going toy give it another month or so and see if it is the Mouse or me.....I love pretty much everything Apple and this is what makes me so surprised about..I don't like this Mouse..yet anyway. Rant over

Well designed and easy to use

    • Written by from Annapolis

I had considered buying one for a while but was hesitant since I saw reviews that said it was uncomfortable to use. I bought one anyway and I am glad I did since I feel those reviews are not accurate. The mouse is designed so it moves easily so you don't have to grip it hard to move it. If you gripped it really hard I could see how the edges would hurt after a while, but it is so light you don't need to and in fact I feel I actually barely touch it when using. I think it is actually very comfortable to use since it doesn't take much effort to move, click or scroll so your hand is more relaxed. I find it very comfortable, easy to use, and beautiful while aiding in my productivity at the same time. Personally I feel it is worth the money and I am very happy with mine.

    Don't waste money

    • Written by from Trento

I have bought this mouse, because there is nothing else there with rich Apple-compatible gestures or 2D inertial scroll. Here are three negative points.

    1) It takes time to get used to the shape. And when you do, holding a regular ergonomic mouse is still like drinking cool water on a hot day. Shape is really something look-at-me only.

    2) It consumes huge amount of battery power. The mouse costs a lot and be ready to buy new batteries every 2-3 weeks depending on usage. For comparison, at my workplace I have been using Logitech wireless laser mouse (not Bluetooth) for more than a year every work day. I have never replaced batteries yet. Amazing!

    3) Even though it swallows batteries like pills, the connection is very unstable. It connects to the Mac from 6 meters away as well as loses the connection once in an hour even with new batteries during normal operation.

Positive points are: it's beautiful, it's innovative and it's Apple. Consider buying another traditional mouse that will work perfectly.

    Poor design, expensive to operate

    • Written by from Lake Jackson

I have a very hard time controlling the movement of the cursor with this mouse. There is no control for allowing it to respond to more subtle movements. My cursor jerks around the screen, whizzes to the end of long documents and catalogs of photos when my hand barely touches the device. Totally uncontrollable. And, yes, I have looked at all the possible settings. There are none that help.

Moreover, this mouse eats batteries. They last an unbelievably short time even when I turn it off between each session. My last set of Duracell alkaline "Ultra Power" batteries lasted less than 60 days. I feel certain that this mouse is either not functioning as it should or is just a poor design from the start. I hate to waste money at the Apple Store. I expect to get the best there. I did not in the case of this product.

Looks nice, feels nice, but is a pain in the you know what!

    • Written by from Cody

While this mouse is great due to its bluetooth connection, the battery life is so short and thus too frequently it losses connectivity. Doesn't seem to matter if one turns it off in between use. Come on, Apple, you can do much better!

    Horrible Product

    • Written by from Denver

I love apple products, but this is the worst experience I have ever had. The battery life is horrible and it takes a very long time to register the mouse when you turn on/wake up the computer. I usually get a message that says a mouse has not been detected and then it will finally detect it. I do not advise buying this product. I am very disappointed that apple would make such a horrible product.

    Love this Mouse

    • Written by from Ottawa

I've used this mouse on my Mac Mini for over 3 years and never had any connection issues. Battery has never been an issue since I've always used rechargeables for my mice. Love it so much I just bought another one for my MacBook Air 11" to replace a Logitech which I also dearly love.

The mouse is a bit different to get used to in form factor but I find if I use a mouse pad with a wrist support I don't feel any awkwardness or discomfort.

Speed of the mouse is slow at first install but fully adjustable in system settings.

To take advantage of all the gestures in a Mac, I would highly recommend this mouse!

    Happy with the product

    • Written by from Laveen

I have two Magic Mice which I use with a G4 and G5 computer. I purchased the first one and liked it so much that I got a second one for the laptop. They take a few weeks to get used to but after a while a normal mouse feels wrong. I have dropped one several times from a couple of feet and it still works fine. One problem is I am so comfortable with the mouse that I will try to use it on my clothes instead of a regular surface. Sometimes the fabric is not correctly seen by the mouse and the pointer will jump around. The other problem is the sensor can pick up dust and again cause the jumping. If his happens, just take a Q tip and brush it off and you will be back in business. If you turn the mouse off when you are not using it, the batteries will last a long time. On the other hand if you never turn the mouse off, consider rechargeable as the batteries will only last a month or two. I use a mix of batteries with rechargeable in the tower which runs 24 hours a day and regular batteries in the laptop which may only be used a few hours a day. After about a year and a half I am only on the second set of batteries in the laptop. As with any battery device, make sure the contacts in the mouse and on the battery are clean as a little dust will keep the mouse from working.
Not everybody will be happy with this mouse but most will come to love it.

    Apple Magic Mouse

    • Written by from Fort McMurray

Did not like this mouse at all!! Had high hopes for it because I absolutely LOVE my MacBook Pro.. It was slow and the mouse hardly moved around the screen.. I thought it was because of the surface I was on but I moved to several different surfaces and it was the same for all of them, not happy because the mouse is expensive too!

    Extremely Annoying To Use

    • Written by from Scottsdale

I've been using this mouse for quite some time now, and it's gotten to the point where I decided to order a wireless USB mouse instead. The functionality of this mouse is great as far as swiping to refresh pages and such, but the bluetooth is subpar. I am CONSTANTLY getting lag and it makes it impossible to use this mouse. I continually get "Connection Lost" messages on my screen. This hurts my workflow a lot as I'm an audio engineer. They need to improve on the connection this mouse has with the computer, and then maybe I'd continue to use it.

I love it, although I did not at first

    • Written by from Pembroke Pines

New to Mac (Sept 2013) A friend lent me his Magic Mouse and I hated it. If felt heavy and i worried about the battery life. However I decided to give it a shot; mostly because of esthetics since the Logitech mouse had the dongle eating up a USB.

I was surprised at the ease of "configuration". It just worked and even named it my name's Magic Mouse. The battery life is exceptional. I have had it for almost 1.5 Months and the battery is still at 75%. I shut the mouse off at the end of the day or when going from customer to customer.

I love it now and it keeps with the minimalist tradition of Apple. The only option I saw for Bluetooth mice, had a Micro$oft Logo on it, and you would not catch me dead with that blasphemy on my Mac.
