It fails because there's no middle click!

    • Written by from Sydney

I just spent some time getting to know my friend's magic mouse. It really is a wonderful gadget - great idea and works very well. It feels comfortable in the hand and the movements, scrolling and left and right clicking are all accurate.

However, there is no middle click! If you don't often use the middle click then this is not an issue and I would recommend the magic mouse to you. But if, like me, you middle click things all the time, like to open a new tab while browsing, then this functionality is indispensable and I for one will not commit to a purchase until the problem is rectified. (Please pass this on to Mr Jobs)

As with any device, it takes some time to get used to, but I now find myself using it more intuitively than my old mouse. The only negative is that I now have difficulties using a mouse on another computer.

    Magic Mouse

    • Written by from Temple City

This mouse is beautiful. It looks so cool next to my MacBook pro. It drags on a plain wooden table and is a bit quirky. Maybe my hand is too big or not sensitive. Swiping isn't intuitive for me. For everyday use, I prefer my $20 Logitech M510. I don't think I could do a 8 hour workday on a Magic Mouse.

A huge upgrade from the Mighty Mouse.

    • Written by from Woodridge

Mouse works great. Plug and play. I was able to use within minutes. Apple's packaging was really impressive. They made sure to include friendly cushion in the box and my mouse was secured upon arrival.. They really take care of shipping their products to you.

    Magic Mouse in the House!

    • Written by from Long Beach

I have really enjoyed using this mouse. It has worked perfectly for me. I appreciate its multi-touch gestures, since I use iOS devices on a regular basis. The only issue for me is that I am 182 cm/6' tall and weigh about 110 kg/245 lb; my fingers are a bit girthy and don't really interface well with this particular mouse; for this reason, I recently purchased a Magic Trackpad, which, so far, I find much more comfortable.

Both the Magic Mouse and Magic Trackpad are equally priced at US$70 plus tax.

Can't imagine using any other mouse

    • Written by from NAPA

The magic mouse isn't perfect, but once you get used to it, other mouses (mice) are clunky, with wheels and buttons. The ergonomics are good too. Once in a while I lose the connection, but it usually pops right back.

    Incredible Mouse but too delicate

    • Written by from Killam

Probably the best mouse out there. However, far too fragile to justify replacement costs. I dropped it harmlessly less than three feet from my desk to the floor, and now the entire right side has lost resiliency and ceases to be a "button." A conditioned Apple mouse user such as myself, I have my right click turned off and all of my primary clicks are to the center of the mouse. Readjusting to the left side is going to be a bit of a pain, and I'll probably have to replace it with something less expensive.

    Excellent Mouse, but...

    • Written by from Regina

I mainly bought this mouse so I can use the functionality with my MBP. I find it a bit heavy, and the clicks some time isn't as responsive. I downloaded MagicPrefs to tweak a few settings to make it better. The swiping/gestures works great. Its awesome when i'm surfing the web and navigating. It will take time to get use to thats for sure. Still a good product, but I still prefer my logitech mouse with certain computer tasks.

    Great product for some.

    • Written by from Diamond Bar

First off, I love this mouse. I got my MM about 6 months after it was released and it has not disappointed me at all. To address the title of this review, the MM is not for everyone. I've been editing photos and videos for about 8 years now and the MM has improved my editing process quite a bit with its touch surface. Taking things up a notch, there are 3rd party apps that allow you to CUSTOMIZE the entire surface of the mouse. As for those who probably will not benefit from the MM are gamers. If you need to click both the left and right side of the mouse, don't bother with this mouse. For those who just use their computer for everyday use, it's a nice touch.

Awesome for scrolling and it's fun! ...but

    • Written by from Ocala

I've been using this mouse for almost a month now and I have both good and bad things to say about it. First of all the concept of the mouse is fantastic! The touch screen top is unlike any other mouse out there and brings a new aspect to computing. Scrolling around 360 degree in documents is excellent. Although it is fun and ingenious, I feel like the quality of the mouse doesn't live up to the Apple standards that I have come to love. Every other product that I have bought from Apple has felt solid and well constructed and performed in the most optimum way I could imagine. Now the top part of this mouse is fine. It the bottom of it that bugs me. The silver plastic on the bottom just doesn't feel right and gives a cheap feeling to the mouse. Another concern and my biggest one at that, is the slidability™ of the mouse. I thought that this device was going to have a cadillac type luxury slide across my mousepad pre-judging by my previous experiences with Apple products. Instead the black rails on the bottom offer no such thing. The slide is far from luxurious. My old logitech mx518 offered a nicer slide. My last concern is the lack of middle mouse button support without third party applications. I'm sort of a purist in this area and try to use as little 3rd party apps as possible when dealing with hardware made by the same company as the computer/operating system. I think Apple should release a patch to fix it so we don't have to use MagicPrefs or something equivalent. Sometimes when working in Maya I will plug in my old mouse just because it's easier and faster to distinguish the 3 mouse buttons to navigate quickly around my objects. Even with these issues I still give this mouse 4 stars because it's just awesome. If they ever do release another version, a more luxurious sturdier version, I will be sure to buy it.

Great mouse but could use some improvements

    • Written by from West Haven

I love the scrolling and zooming functions, however I think the design can be more ergonomic to fit ones hand more comfortably. Also adding 2 buttons on either side to add more functionality would be a welcome addition. I would give it 5 stars if these features were added.

Please upgrade the software and make it FASTERRRRRRRRRRRR!!

    • Written by from LAS PALMAS DE GRAN CANARIA

This mouse es very nice, in first touch it feels a little unconfortable beacause is different, but in a while you feel that is really light and smooth to use. I love it, but after the software update, the default leopard speed configuration was great and after the upgrade, the magic mouse become slow and hard to move the pointer faster, it should be twice faster, please apple team, make it possible beacause the mouse is fantastic and the scroll is very nice. If you read that and have the same feeling, write about this...

Don't listen to other reviews Im literally using this on my bed, with no mouse pad of any sort right now and its working FLAWLESSLY. This thing is probably the best things Ive ever bought myself since i got my MacBook Pro.

The only thing that stinks is the price.

    Great for pro apps

    • Written by from Toronto

I really like this mouse. It works flawlessly and if you use Logic or FCP it's great for scrolling along the timeline with a simple slide of the finger. Although I miss having extra buttons I find I'd rather do without them now than go back to the old style mouse.

I do wish they would release the next upgrade of software for this mouse since the software you get now is very basic. Once they include all the potential moves you could have it'll be fantastic.

Much better than the Mighty Mouse

    • Written by from Cupertino

When I first saw the mouse, I thought it was beautiful. It was very slim and carried a very nice and simple design. There was one thing I thought was going to take time to get used to, gripping the mouse. The mouse looked hard to grip comfortably, but surprisingly it wasn't that bad. It's not like gripping a normal standard mouse, but I was not feeling uncomfortable. It will probably still take some time to get fully adjusted to it, but other than that it's fine. The multi-touch is amazing. I like how you can do stuff just like the things you can do on the glass trackpads on my MacBook Pro. It senses the gestures properly. Overall, I think this is a great mouse. The things I wish they can add is the ability to go to expose with gestures, pinch zooming, and tap to click. It would be perfect if they added all the features they have on the glass trackpads.

    Very useful and good mouse

    • Written by from Markham

I found the mouse too be absolutely a dream to use, the controls are intuitive and movement with the mouse is flawless. But the only problem I have with the mouse is that its extremely fragile, I carried it in my school bag once inside of its case. The mouse didn't fit perfectly in the case and it ended up bumping around in it. This ended up creating many tiny little micro fractures in the mouse and it now looks really ugly.

A great accessory for your Mac Book Pro

    • Written by from GOLDEN

When it comes to wanting to do some true graphic design, development, general use, or gaming on your Mac Book Pro, this is a must have tool. It allows you to sit back and work from afar without the need of wires, while having the amazing combination of a trackpad and a mouse, this truly is a "magic" mouse. It is definitely a must have for any mac user.

Great device, but has some cosmetic problems

    • Written by from Peabody

I've had my magic mouse for the better part of 4 months now and it has not malfunctioned at all with the use that i put through it. the only problem that i have found with this design is the aluminum is slowly corroding away on the sides where my thumb and ring finger makes contact with the casing. the thin gap between the top shell and the bottom shell has a nasty habit of accumulating dead skin cells, and i am forced to clean it out every so often.

other than the above mentioned problem, this mouse is an excellent addition to the mac products i already own.

I love this mouse but have a concern with its ergonomics.

    • Written by from Dallas

I have tested this mouse numerous times in the past several days at different Apple stores as they haven't yet been available in Dallas, TX.

Like everyone else I was impressed by the multi-tech technology.
The momentum option works exactly as expected.
There is no more roller-ball to get clogged with debris.

After a little experimentation with using less finger pressure you can learn to scroll left-to-right without moving the pointer. The double-finger paging is slightly trickier as you almost have to let go with the other fingers.

If you use Google maps please test this out as the Magic Mouse seems to add a few unexpected zoom actions while navigating the map.

    Button 3 went away.
If you use the Terminal and are used to selecting text and "quick-pasting" with the center mouse button (Button 3) you will now have to select, cut, then paste. Where the "quick-pasting" was just one mouse click, the cut and paste requires four mouse clicks. Dragging the selected text is still an option but requires a little more skill than the "quick-pasting".

I'm not sad about the side buttons going away. For me they were a little awkward to use.

My ergonomic concern is that the Magic Mouse is slightly too flat. I found my fingers starting to ache after 20-30 minutes of use - which never happened with my Mighty Mouse. Flat is great for a track pad, but the difference is that your hand still wants to hold the mouse.

After a year it decided to stop work

    • Written by from New Orleans

I bought this mouse and it worked perfectly for me then a little over a year after (370 days later) it stopped working. I could only click but it would not move on my screen. I called apple and they couldn't fix the problem. I'd be cautious with this mouse. Works well but im bummed that it stopped working so suddenly, not even the logitech that i have for over 5 years failed me...
