    Durable but not baby spitup-proof

Worked flawlessly for 3 years on my Apple TV (release and update already!). Never had a problem, then I had a baby. He spits up on everything. It hit the remote the other day and now the down button doesn't work. Been using an old white remote (it's not very good) and my phone (it responds slow).
Only gripe I've had in the past is the remote has to be aimed directly at the Apple TV (early 3rd generation) for it to work.

Time to buy a new remote.

Was fine until I updated to the MacBook Retina. No IR!!

I sat there for quite a while trying to pair the remote to my new 15" MacBook Pro Retina, changing batteries and the like before Googling and finding out it doesn't have infrared! Now how do I control video apps like VLC, when plugged into the televsion without having to get up? I don't! Crying and annoying shame I find.

    Simply Great, but doesn't last!

Yes, this is a great little remote, simple, easy to use. The battery lasted almost 2 years with daily use. However, recently the fast fwd part of the button ceased to work. I'm guessing it wore out, as all other functions are fine. I thought something this simple would work forever, but now its become a pain for navigating through the Apple TV home screen. Wondering what to do, buy a new one, or just use the remote on my iPad/iPhone? Here is hoping it's just a glitch and will come back to life. For now I'll just use my iPad or iPhone for that feature. The pain, oh the pain!

    does the job

we have this with our apple tv. but can i say, so small! with our bigger remotes, it's already a hassle looking for them in between the couch cushions, but this is even worse. also, ends up controlling nearby MacBooks and i wish the battery was easier to replace. in other words, AA or even AAA would be nice. otherwise it does the job. maybe we'll ghetto tape it to our giant remote so it won't get lost so often and for so long.

    Handy and inexpensive

I'm surprised at all people who say this remote is easy to lose. I just keep it with my other remotes. For 20 bucks, this is a handy remote to have to control my music from across the room. Works fine with my Macbook Pro on OSX. And in case you were wondering, the infrared is located on the MBP's front, so even when I use it in clamshell mode, it works fine.

    Apple TV Remote

My only concern with the remote is its compact size. Sadly my remote disappeared in my lounge room and I was unable to find it. Yes I am a dinosaur and perhaps a small hole in it to attach a ring so I can hang it around my neck. This could be for older people such as myself who mislay small items. Otherwise a great product.

    Too Small

It's always getting lost in our couch, it needs to be bigger! It still works great.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars

    Good build quality too small

Great remote design, it's a pleasure to hold. That being said it's very small and if you lose it you need to have home sharing initiated already or you won't be able to sink another device to it. A replacement is surprisingly cheap and syncing a different remote is easy but a scream function in the remote that could be activated by an inconspicuous button on the apple tv itself would be brilliant.

    Where did it go?

The remote is great, let get that out there. It came with our Apple TV. Works fine, does everything we need it to, but a lot of times we lose it. We have always found it, but have had to use our iPad's "Remote" app from Apple in the meantime. But it looks so cool! So we give it four stars, 1 for cool, -1 for losing it all the time, 3 for working.

    Works for Me

Works with my iMac (Mid 2011). iTunes and DVD Player. I sure I'll find other apps to use it with.
They should make an app to enhance the function of the remote. (deduct 1 star)

Great design, little capability (on OS X Lion)

Great design. It's IR but worked very well from any direction to the receiver. It's about 5 meters on maximum distance from the receiver.

The function of this remote on OSX Lion are for controlling Quicktime, iTunes, and Keynote or PowerPoint presentations. They are turning up and turning down the volume, getting to the next or prev song, getting to the next or prev slide, play or pause the song or movie, play a slideshow (stopping a slideshow isn't supported), fast forwarding or rewinding the music and the video.

You're cool when you're presenting a slideshow using this device. That's the most great feature of this device.

    Works quickly and works well!

I bought it as an impromptu purchase right before I gave a Keynote presentation. Right out of the box, it immediately somehow "recognized" my macbook and my macbook only (other people in the room had macs and I still can't quite figure out how it knew to direct itself to mine) and I was able to use it seamlessly with my presentation. The only thing that might be handy is a laser pointer at the end so that I don't also have to carry a pointer. But very happy with this sleek littile thing.

    apple remote

it has a beautiful aluminium case and brilliant black buttons. seems to be missing the apple logo.

i have just brought one and i was really excited about it and then i found out that it doesn't work with the new white macbook uni-body which i found very irritating because i'm going to either have to sell it or buy an IR receiver... so watch out if you are buying one because it doesn't state whether it works with the new white macbook. But it works with the old one, Crazy.

    Limited navigation- nice design

This new aluminum remote is definitely better than the previous plastic one, that resembled an iPod shuffle. The buttons click easily, and there aren't thousands of buttons that you have to memorize. But, unless you have apple TV and lost the remote, or you need a new remote for your mac/iPod dock, then you wouldn't need this accessory.
    -Recommended as a replacement part-

I thought this remote was great when I initially got it, but had no idea that it could put your computer to sleep! Why isn't in a description somewhere?! Once I found this out, I upgraded my thoughts to amazing!

Wish there was a way to exit Front Row quicker than pressing 'menu' a bunch of times.

    Nice Remote but...

I love this remote. It's classy and has a sleek design. It is too big, however (that's what she said). It's about twice the size of the previous white mac remote.

Why so big? It could be half the size..

    Pretty good

I wish you could select playlists and whatnot. I feel like that wouldn't be too difficult to implement. Just a small software change in the Music app. I also have a GREAT idea for Apple so that you can use the remote to control iTunes on any computer (Mac AND Windows). That also requires a small software change too. If the remote was more useful, I would give it 5 stars. Otherwise, it's nice being able to control music from across the room, and the size and design is nice too.

    Almost there

Apple definitely should use a click wheel on this. It's what everyone assumes it is already, why not make things easy. They're always talking about how everything is integrated and natural, now in the days where everyone has, had, or has at least messed with an iPod, a click wheel is natural. And why IR instead of Bluetooth?
