    kinda a waste

This remote should have way more capabilities than it has.. i mean come on what is this thing really good for if it doesnt control everything that your computer can do?

    Very limited functionality

When I bought it I thought it will work with all iphone/ipod touch apps but this is not true. Also it offers very limited control. You have to constantly go back to your device to start stop application or switch to a new video on youtube that defeates the purpose of having a remote. Apple you can do a better job than this....

    A little bit disappointed

The apple remote is built well, and nearly flawless. I was very impressed with the design. However, as a costumer, I am a little disappointed. The Apple Remote does not work with the Macbook, because it does not have Infrared. I should have done more research, before I bought this product. However, it would have been nice to know that this product wouldn't work with my compute, before I bought it. This is probably the first time I have ever been upset, with an Apple product.

Not for use as a PRESENTER!

Come on Apple. You have the best computers. We now need a tool to present in the corporate world. This is a joke for presenting. Not helpful. Need something much more powerful.

All the respect in the world for the Apple Products, but this is not a work tool.

    Wish it was still plastic

I have no doubt the aluminum remote works well but the only problem I have with it is it's aluminum. The aluminum used by apple is not nickel free and therefore causes severe dermatitis in those with a nickel sensitivity. I wish the remote was still made in plastic as well.

I wish it was shorter too.

This thing is a remote not a presenter!!!

Works with Mid 2010 Macbook Pro despite what some of the reviews say (even when configuring your macbook pro order the apple remote is an additional accessory option).

Only forward and back with powerpoint 2008/2011, no white or black screen option.

Line of sight only severely limits this REMOTES ability to be used as a presenter tool.

I wish apple made an RF version with a laser pointer.

    Great design, but...

Don't drop it. It's an odd thing to say for such a nice little metal remote that should be so solid, but if you are watching your apple tv and the remote happens to slide off the armrest of your couch, have fun trying to get the remote to work again. Usually if I pop the battery cover off, take the battery out, and then put it all back together, it works, but sometimes not.

Only works with iTunes and Frontrow

This won't work with any programs other than Frontrow and iTunes. It does have a solid feel and simple industrial design. But i spent $20 on this and i NEVER use it since I always use VLC or Plex to play video.

    only half way there.

so, upon seeing this thing hanging on the wall at the apple store, i thought to myself, "cool, remote control of itunes and movies. yet upon opening the sleek little remote, with batteries included, i realized what i had expected was not what this thing was.because this thing looks like an ipod, i has to be not only the least intuitive tool in Apples belt, it is also therefor the most deceptive. i was hoping that I would be about to scroll through my songs, etc with the black circle-thingy. nope. up/down control volume. and left/right switches from song to song ONLY. you can't navigate your various levels of song, albums, playlists from a distance. and the darn thing has a predisposition with Front Row, which i've never had to use, ever. it has a whole different interface than itunes and confuses me.
i'd say Apple should make something which looks like another product OPERATE like that product; a remote that operates like an ipod, letting you navigate the whole of your itunes from a distance only seems intuitive, right?

If you have the new macbook do not buy. I does not work with it as the new macbook does not have infared so the remote will not connect with it.

Total waist if you have the original

I got the new remote and was all excited to try it out on my ipod touch. I had a dock for it, and it came with one of the original remotes. I thought with this one I could select certain song and playlists, but when I got it, It could only do what the original one could. I even did a test, and they both worked the exact same way. If you have the original (which comes free with most macs and docks) don't spend $19.99 on this one.

    Hard to press buttons.

The remote is beautiful in every respect except usage. Pressing buttons is hard because of the lack of tactile differentiation. The main issue is with the directional buttons vs the center button. If one is not looking it's easy to confuse them and press the wrong button. So you might find yourself having to look at the remote to see where you are pressing.

That's unacceptable. There is no reason Apple can't make a remote that's tactile enough to easily differentiate among keys and easily press without looking. Actually they did, the old Apple remote works perfectly in this regard.

    Good and bad

Really beautiful and super flat design.

However, if you're an Apple TV user for 2 years like I am, you'll be very used to the previous design, so there is a learning curve. The menu button is now on the bottom left, rather than centered, so it will slow down your speed if you're used to the old one. Also, Apple made a very un-Apple decision to add a completely redundant play button. So the middle button still selects and plays, but there's now a second play button on the bottom right. This makes absolutely no sense -- what was Apple thinking?

Not sure if the cool design is worth the trade-off.

    Before you buy

This is way bigger (longer) than I thought. This new remote is about an inch longer than the previous gen. Unlike the rumor about the clickwheel, the wheel is just a four-way button :( Don't understand the reason of having one more button that just makes the remote ugly. Battery cover on the back is especially ugly.
