    Good and bad

    • Written by from Oakland

Really beautiful and super flat design.

However, if you're an Apple TV user for 2 years like I am, you'll be very used to the previous design, so there is a learning curve. The menu button is now on the bottom left, rather than centered, so it will slow down your speed if you're used to the old one. Also, Apple made a very un-Apple decision to add a completely redundant play button. So the middle button still selects and plays, but there's now a second play button on the bottom right. This makes absolutely no sense -- what was Apple thinking?

Not sure if the cool design is worth the trade-off.

My Hands Hate The "New" Apple Remote

    • Written by from Santa Fe

To the point - the sharp metal edges do not feel good in my hands - the placement of the 'Menu' button is awkward - the 'wheel' around the 'select' button is hard to locate by touch alone - the battery cover on the back is a tactile distraction and is hard to 'close' - the metal finish gets clammy and damp from being held.

PUL-LEAZE - do something with the design of the Apple Remote - this metal thing is really not good - and I am a 1988-to-the-present SUPER APPLE FAN - There's almost nothing to complain about regarding Apple designs - but this one is TERRIBLE!

Like the remote - but the button's fail too fast

    • Written by from Fountain Hills

I love my Apple TV and experience, however I have had to buy one after another Apple Controller due to the up-button eventually failing. They have a quality issue that needs to be addressed.

As a remote and its function, i rate this product a 5, however do to the ongoing issues I have had with the up-button on the remote (requiring me to replace about 3 remotes in the past 3 years) - i rate this product a 2.

Sleek, but easy to lose and hard to use

    • Written by from Belmont

Slim and elegant, but I lost it within a couple of months and had to buy another. When it came it was enclosed in a plastic case that was impossible to open. After trying all conceivable ways for 15 mins, I had to go to google to find out how many others had the same problem as I did. The plastic wrap around the edges was just impossible to detect for far too many, and no instructions on how to open were given. I am a professor at a top engineering school, and I give to the designers an A for art and an F for functionality

    Wish it was still plastic

    • Written by from West Hurley

I have no doubt the aluminum remote works well but the only problem I have with it is it's aluminum. The aluminum used by apple is not nickel free and therefore causes severe dermatitis in those with a nickel sensitivity. I wish the remote was still made in plastic as well.

I wish it was shorter too.

I bought the Apple TV like a month ago and the buttons on the remote have worn out already.
    I am really disappointed.

So small - lost it the first week and had to spend $20 for another

    • Written by from Gorham

I suppose it's a good thing that this remote is small. The first thing I said when I opened the box was," wow this remote is really small - we'll have to make sure we keep it somewhere safe." One week later, with two teenage boys in the house, we cannot find the remote anywhere. Looked under sofa and sofa cushions. Cannot find it! We got along for a while using the iphone remote app, but we had to reset the apple airport and it caused the apple tv to no longer work - apple tv needs to be set up again and you cannot do that with the iphone remote app - has to be done with the apple remote. What were the designers thinking when they designed it so small! It should have come with a built-on honing device.

    only half way there.

so, upon seeing this thing hanging on the wall at the apple store, i thought to myself, "cool, remote control of itunes and movies. yet upon opening the sleek little remote, with batteries included, i realized what i had expected was not what this thing was.because this thing looks like an ipod, i has to be not only the least intuitive tool in Apples belt, it is also therefor the most deceptive. i was hoping that I would be about to scroll through my songs, etc with the black circle-thingy. nope. up/down control volume. and left/right switches from song to song ONLY. you can't navigate your various levels of song, albums, playlists from a distance. and the darn thing has a predisposition with Front Row, which i've never had to use, ever. it has a whole different interface than itunes and confuses me.
i'd say Apple should make something which looks like another product OPERATE like that product; a remote that operates like an ipod, letting you navigate the whole of your itunes from a distance only seems intuitive, right?

Only works with iTunes and Frontrow

    • Written by from Long beach

This won't work with any programs other than Frontrow and iTunes. It does have a solid feel and simple industrial design. But i spent $20 on this and i NEVER use it since I always use VLC or Plex to play video.

    Before you buy

    • Written by from East Lansing

This is way bigger (longer) than I thought. This new remote is about an inch longer than the previous gen. Unlike the rumor about the clickwheel, the wheel is just a four-way button :( Don't understand the reason of having one more button that just makes the remote ugly. Battery cover on the back is especially ugly.
