No Probs and disappointed w reviews

    • Written by from Schenectady

I love this remote. i've never had a problem. yes, it controls my other products but that doesn't bother me. i have NEVER lost it but I live alone. I don't even understand a lot of the tech jargon peps talk about here. I;ve had this 2.5 years and there IS a battery low signal on the TV so I know i need a battery. i thought i'd just go buy one.

    the WORST.

    • Written by from LaGrangeville

I honestly don't understand the positive reviews of this product. I am an Apple fan through and through, every electronic device I own is Apple. That being said I am so disappointed in this remote. It is the most easily lost remote ever invented. Yes it is easy to use, because there are like 3 buttons. It is not a comprehensive remote. My biggest issue really is the size. I lose this remote on a daily basis and it is incredibly frustrating.

Love New Apple TV but Hate Remote

    • Written by from Carlsbad

I love Apple products, I own at least one of almost everything, but this remote is really horrid. It is way to sensitive to the touch even set on slow. While watching a movie or show if you grab or touch the remote you can easily fast forward or go backwards on your show without realizing it. If you have any kind of arthritis in your thumb joint it is literally painful to use this remote, it takes two hands to keep from hoping all over any given menu. I love the Siri part and the fast reaction time of the Apple TV itself. I do not use remote for gaming but I have a really large library of movies, tv shows, etc., this seems like a very hard way to get through them all and having to type these passwords in is intolerable. If you make one mistake you well have to go back through the whole signing in of passwords to all of your apps. This needs to support an external keyboard of some type whether on your iPhone or iPad or other item.

    Unbelievably Bad Design

    • Written by from BEND

Even with normal fingers, it is unusable for most purposes. Don't believe it? Buy one and try to search, or use the cursor. What bugs me is Apple had to know bout the defective design shortly after rollout. If you want Apple TV, shop for a remote replacement simultaneously.

Apple needs to post more specific product info.

    • Written by from Morgan

This remote does not work with iMac models made after 2012. After being told it did by 3 different employees at the Apple store I purchased it, got it home, and then found out that Apple stopped adding the IR in the newer models of iMac. I have the OS X Yosemite and it does not have the Infrared Receiver. This should be posted by Apple in the Product specifics as they lead you to believe it works for iMac.

Great while it worked...kinda...then died an early death

    • Written by from Salt Lake City

This remote came with the 3rd generation Apple TV I bought three years ago. It worked as expected for about a year, after which an Apple TV update caused it to open iTunes on the iMac located in the same room, even after trying every imaginable combination of pairing and unpairing and restarting and resetting. Eventually I learned to hold the Apple TV remote near the floor on the far side of an ottoman.

Last week the remote's battery died, and since I replaced it the remote won't scroll down. The menu button works and it selects items (though that function seems balky) and scrolls up, right and left just fine, but it won't scroll down--or, I should say, it will scroll down jerkily one time out of several dozen presses.

Now I know people will wonder why I don't use the iOS app, but it's a pain to have to turn on my iPod Touch and unlock it before stopping or pausing. The six year old remote that came with my iMac can be paired with the Apple TV, but that remote's home is in the kitchen so I can control iTunes while messing around in there.

I don't know why this remote is so fragile. It's not that expensive to replace, but frankly isn't reasonable to produce something that's going to die after a few years. So 3 stars for the initial performance; can't say anything good about it in the long term.

    way too small

    • Written by from Granite bay

I have actually washed this remote when it was mixed in blankets and had to replace. It is currently lost again for the third time. This would be fine if I lived alone but I have 2 kids and a husband! ;) This is the only remote that is a constant problem to find grrr!

I love the original Apple TV remote. Yes, it may go missing in the couch (but others do too). Yes it is a little slow when you have to enter long passwords. However, it's elegant simplicity makes it much easier to use for the most common functions, like pause, play, stop, and searching on the Apple TV on-screen menus. You can use it in the dark, without having to look at a single button. And I love the way it feels; slightly cool to the touch when you first pick it up; the smooth, but not slick surfaces and the elegant, almost silent click. No one but Apple would have even considered this approach.

If the new Apple TV comes with a touchpad, as has been mentioned, it will likely take two hands to use it. It will also require that you look at the touchpad to select the more numerous commands. It may offer more functions and capability, like the other multi-button remotes on the coffee table.

The current Apple remote is like jeans and a black turtleneck. Cool, efficient and timeless.

Despise the remote! -3 stars can't reset the one star I accidentally pushed

    • Written by from Mont nebo

I absolutely despise this remote, I seriously spend way too much time trying to find it, the size and design of it seriously make it disappear into the couch right before your eyes! I have also been having problems with the up button.

Poorest remote design in the history of remote controls

    • Written by from Decatur

Couldn't make it any more loosable. No home button so retrace every step to get back to the beginning. Pretty user unfriendly but Apple design has been on the downhill for a while now.

    Where have I been?

    • Written by from Appleton

An apple remote that doesn't work with my brand new 27" iMac? Wow. Epic fail. I can't believe that I assumed apple would just 'have' IR capabilities. Shame on me. I am an apple freak, but this little misstep has bummed me out. Shame on me for expecting something that wasn't there. Shame on apple for not having something that SHOULD be there. And if anyone can tell me how to get the Remote App, on my iPad Air or iPhone 6, to pause Netflix, etc... Please tell me.

Terrible. Second remote. Will not work with new Batteries Bad

    • Written by from Springfield

This is my second remote in two years. When not in use they are store in a drawer in our coffee table. The first and second remote had both stopped working and thinking that both times it was the battery, we replaced them only to not have them work. Very frustrated as I didn't think that these were going to be " disposable" remotes. Not sure what to do at this point as we don't want to purchase a third remote, and the remote apps on the Ipads haven't been working lately.

    Durable but not baby spitup-proof

    • Written by from NEW BRITAIN

Worked flawlessly for 3 years on my Apple TV (release and update already!). Never had a problem, then I had a baby. He spits up on everything. It hit the remote the other day and now the down button doesn't work. Been using an old white remote (it's not very good) and my phone (it responds slow).
Only gripe I've had in the past is the remote has to be aimed directly at the Apple TV (early 3rd generation) for it to work.

Time to buy a new remote.

    Worst remote ever

    • Written by from Whangarei

Normally Apple excels at producing easy to use products. But this remote is Rubbish in every respect. Way too small I spend more time looking for it than actually using it! And when you do finally find it the lack of buttons make simple tasks like entering a password a real pain. To top it off while I'm trying to select a movie on TV or entering a password its also simultaneously turning on and off music on my computer. Without doubt the worst apple product I have ever used.

CAUTION: Does not work with Retina MacBook Pros

    • Written by from Bronx

Got this remote a few days ago, was disappointed when I realized the newer MacBook Pro models no longer carry an IR receiver, I'm sure it's a good remote, but it's simply incompatible with newer MacBooks so don't buy it if that's what you're buying it for.

It is way too small and very difficult to navigate the search menu without regularly getting the wrong letter/number and having to delete. Trying too hard to be compact and lost functionality in the process
