    Airport Express bogs down download speeds on connected devices.

    I had an Apple Express hooked up in my living room, close to the Apple TV which btw works really well. However, I started to notice that when I had my Mac Air in the same living room and "hooked up" via express that web screens loaded pretty slowly. I ran Speakeasy to check to see what was up and found that the unit was running at a snails pace, causing the computer to get down under 1 meg some times, even when the Apple TV wasn't being used. I went to my desktop MAC and ran Speakeasy and was getting the 12meg speeds I'm paying ATT for, so dismissing ATT as a culprit, I moved the Express to other parts of the house, tested, and got less than half speed regardless of the location. I then removed (unplugged) the Express and checked again and even with all devices (6-7) connected to the Extreme Base Unit. The download speeds were at back to the correct 12meg making me wonder why I bought the Express in the first place. Bottom line. (My) Express runs at best half-speed so I unplugged it, and told Airport Utility to "forget it" which removed it from my network. Live and learn. I am still a huge Apple fan and have had no other problems to speak of with any other Apple equipment. I just feel lucky that it was an easy problem to solve and even if it was $99 throw-away item, no one, including Apple is 100%.

    Gadgets cannot connect right away & signal is lost most of the time

    The first generation airport express was really a performer. So after 3 years of being impressed by its performance, I decided to get this new airport express a few months ago. I was disappointed. My gadgets (iphone, mac, belkin switches, ipads, smart tv) can't connect to the new express right away. I have to search the wifi signal and type in the codes again. Very disappointing product!

    worked great for a year

    I HAD one that worked well for the first year, then it started cutting out every now and then and it was all down hill from there. Once it started cutting out when playing music it was dead within 2 or 3 months. Would like another one but not gonna keep spending $100 every year for a new airport express.

    Worst Apple's product ever - streaming just DOESN'T work

    I can't believe this product has 4 stars. Try to stream music with AirPlay... Every model of this device had issues with frequent music drop out when streaming... and unfortunately I'm the owner of this model...
    More than four years of complains of other users on Apple's forum...

    If you're going to buy it in order to stream music - think twice :-)...

    Lasted 14 months

    I bought this September 9, 2014. It gave up December 2015. It shows strong wifi signal but does not connect. I tried connecting an ethernet cable to it but failed also. Now, I surf the net connected by ethernet cable direct to the modem.

    Does not work as advertised

    This was sold as a network extender with a promise in store that it does not matter what type of network you have. This is not true. It would not work with my Cisco network and Apple product support admitted that it does not work with any network other than apple networks (apparently the representatives I spoke to get between 2 and 4 calls a day about this so it is a major problem). I have not tried it with an apple network, but based on previous promises I would not waste my money buying one to find out. Of course in order to find out it doesn't work you have to open the package, so guess what - no refund. Am not impressed with after sales service for this product and since it is our first time needing after sales support it really makes us ponder any further purchases from apple.

    Save your money

    Drops connection once or twice a day and must be unplugged and restarted. Wish I had read the reviews here before I purchased. I now know that's a common problem with the Express.

    My 5th Generation Extreme works great. Hard to believe the Express is made by the same company.

    Failed product design is very unreliable

    I have had a few of these routers and have found that there are many problems with them.
    First if you use them to stream music say from iTunes you can't also use the internet as the music will stop playing.
    Second these routers will randomly go offline and have to be unplugged and "reset" - very frustrating.
    Third the range is ridiculously short. Do not expect to cover more than one room or you will be disappointed.
    Fourth they often don't even show up in Airport Utility so you can't access the firmware all the time to troubleshoot.
    Fifth they just die randomly and have to be replaced - a couple years lifespan from my experience - they seem to overheat.
    Sixth they have problems maintaining connection to another router if used to expend your wifi range - don't expect to have
    consistent success doing this and absolutely don't expect success using them to wirelessly send music to your speakers -
    this has been a complete failure. Buy a proven router from another manufacturer. They are cheaper and far far superior in operation and reliability. On the plus size they are small.

    Awful

    If it works it is slow. It hardly works and don't even get coverage in my entire apartment which is only 1200 sq. ft. Waste of money

    Horrible

    Don't buy this product. It worked good at first but after about 5 months it would never even pick up the Internet. It would also drop signal when it was connected every 5 minutes. Go buy a cheaper router from a different brand and save your money it'll most likely work better to begin with.

    Airplay is horrible/Router ok

    I bought 2 of these things for a 1500 sqft space and these suckers aren't particle. Network drops out from one end of the space to the other so I have to always walk toward the main one to get stable coverage. Also the Airplay is the only reason I got 2 of them and that feature is horrible, it never works. Maybe works for 1 min then starts dropping out. Apple's quality is really is starting to become like it was back in the 90s. Cool outside box with poor components inside and at the $99 price rage you'd hope for a better product.

    I was initially enthusiastic...

    ...but that was years ago. They are frustrating and opaque. They work until they don't. A ten or twenty dollar bluetooth device is almost certain to be better. I own Apple stock, and I challenge anyone to name a worse Apple product.

    Doesn't work wirelessly with VERIZON

    After three hours of trying everything I stumbled upon a Verizon forum for DSL connections dslreports (dotcom) /faq/12506
    The short answer is that the router that Verizon uses (Actiontec), will not work wirelessly with the Airport Express. You have to hardwire the secondary router.
    Back to the store it went and I spent the time wiring instead.
    I gave 1 star for lack of literature on this on the part of Apple.

    Worst Apple product yet.

    I had the old version of this which worked GREAT for about 7 years. No issues. Then the software updates made it to where my Mac would no longer communicate with the now ancient white brick.

    So, I updated to this one about a year ago. Worked just fine, initially. Now, streaming music over Airplay works maybe 10% of the time and now the Wifi is dropping out. I've connected via ethernet and reset SEVERAL times to fix the issue and once I attach it to my existing wireless network, I can no longer connect to the internet. It was like watching someone's health get progressively worse. And out of warranty, out of luck.

    HOW? How could Apple release such an inferior product?

    Worst Apple product ever

    If you are using this as a stand alone wifi router it's mediocre at best. Trying to add it to an existing wifi network and having it work consistently is a joke. If you do get lucky and get it to work NEVER change anything with your network. That's $80 I'll never get back.

    Almost never works - audio drops constantly!

    I bought the 2nd gen because Apple kindly stopped allowing my to connect to my old device so I can no longer configure it. I've tried every setting but my Mac can rarely connect to this new one. My iPhone and iPad can find it easier but the audio drops every few seconds making it completely useless. All other devices I have can connect just fine to the network. Online help is useless. I'm returning it.

    Shockingly Bad

    Do not buy this. I bought it to create wireless printing capability for my new iMac and to boost the wireless signal. The wireless printing works, but the wireless signal is appalling. It only works intermittently and the signal from the cable company supplied router is actually stronger.

    In short, not worth it.

    Decline in Apple products; Airport constantly dropping form network.

    I agree with Matty D's review. I have multiple Apple products in my family, (7) MacBooks, (6) iPhones (not including the older generations), (2) Apple tv's, (2) Airport Express, (1) Airport Extreme, and numerous Beats products as well. The Airport Express has to be the worst Apple product I own. Both of my Airports keep dropping from the network, and interrupt music streaming. Anytime I want to stream music via either of my Airports I have to unplug them from the power source, and then plug them back in. Even then, they may only play anywhere form 30 mins up to a full day before they drop from the network, loosing the ability to stream music. I have called Apple support and the gentleman on the phone was very helpful and nice. However, there was not a solution to fix the problem. It is very in-convent to have to stop whatever you are doing to reboot a streaming device. I have Sonos speakers in multiple rooms at our lake-house and the product works impeccably. I am currently looking for another solution to stream music at home.

    AirPort Express is Apple's worst product ever

    I don't know how Apple can get away with producing such a bad product. Try to link two AirPort Express devices and you know why it's such a bad product. I am trying to extend my wifi network with a second AirPort Express in order to stream music wireless. The connection constantly interrupts and this completely destroys my listening experience. I am actively searching for something better. Don't let Apple do your wifi connection! You will be dissappinted.

    Very Bad

    Says it can connect with 50 devices without slowing down. My family barely has 10 connected to it and the connections are terrible and speeds are 10x slower than my previous router.
