Not happy with this product at all

    • Written by from Tucson

Let me start by saying that I am fully integrated into the APPLE ecosystem. I have a iPhone, iPad, and a MacBook Pro. With that being said here is my review of the AirPort Express. I purchased this with the thought it would work as advertised and it doesn't. What's sad is this is the second time I've been duped by the AirPort Express. I bought the first one that didn't work as advertised, then I purchased this one and it's just as terrible. It doesn't boost the signal and my bluetooth speakers only work if I hard wire them into the box. It does set-up quickly, and that's about it.

    Doesn't work wirelessly with VERIZON

    • Written by from Leesburg

After three hours of trying everything I stumbled upon a Verizon forum for DSL connections dslreports (dotcom) /faq/12506
The short answer is that the router that Verizon uses (Actiontec), will not work wirelessly with the Airport Express. You have to hardwire the secondary router.
Back to the store it went and I spent the time wiring instead.
I gave 1 star for lack of literature on this on the part of Apple.

Gadgets cannot connect right away & signal is lost most of the time

    • Written by from Vancouver

The first generation airport express was really a performer. So after 3 years of being impressed by its performance, I decided to get this new airport express a few months ago. I was disappointed. My gadgets (iphone, mac, belkin switches, ipads, smart tv) can't connect to the new express right away. I have to search the wifi signal and type in the codes again. Very disappointing product!

No connect to Yamaha Disklavier via wireless bridge to Airport Extreme

    • Written by from Victoria

I have spent several days trying to configure this jewel-like piece of junk. Running Lion 10.7.5 and Mountain Lion 10.8.3, Airport Utility 6.x (AU6.x) auto configure does not enable detection of piano using Yamaha's iPhone Disklavier App. Apple Airport 6.x has no manual configuration capability. For that you need a nonstandard install of Airport Utility 5.6 or 5.6.1 (depending on your Mac OS X version). Infuriating!

    Shockingly Bad

    • Written by from Fairfield

Do not buy this. I bought it to create wireless printing capability for my new iMac and to boost the wireless signal. The wireless printing works, but the wireless signal is appalling. It only works intermittently and the signal from the cable company supplied router is actually stronger.

    In short, not worth it.

    Very Bad

    • Written by from South Jordan

Says it can connect with 50 devices without slowing down. My family barely has 10 connected to it and the connections are terrible and speeds are 10x slower than my previous router.

    Airport Express is not reliable

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I would not recommend to buy this AirPort Express Base Station!! This is a second that I've purchased two months ego and I hoped it would work since the previous model worked only for 4 month. But, no it didn't. It starts loosing connection at first and then after several 'reset' it won't connect at all. Don't waste money.

Does not work with ALL ISPs

    • Written by from Oakville

Thought I'd be smart and replace my trusty Linksys with an Apple product as almost all my computer stuff is Apple. Was I disappointed. The setup was this was frustrating. I thought it was the cable outlet. So the cable guy came and told me that the only was to this that and the other - all way above my skill level. But he couldnt do it for me as it was not his company policy to do this that or the other.
So back to the store this goes.

    very weak wifi signal

    • Written by from Auckland

I purchased an airport express on the advice of an apple sales person that it would provide a perfectly good wireless signal over a distance of 30m.
Once I purchased the product and set it up in our home office I found that that was not the case and I could not get a reliable signal in the house (approx 20m away from the home office).
I was then advised to purchase a second airport express to use as an expander in the house. However, it still takes about 5 times as long to load a website in the house as it does in the office, and the express in the house keeps dropping the connection with the express in the office.
I have purchased a new imac and two airport expresses only to find that I have to use my 6 year old wireless G router in order to get reliable internet access to the computer in the house.
When I called applecare support I was advised that the earlier advice given by the apple salesperson was wrong and that an airport express really only gives a strong signal over a distance of about 10m.
As a result, he suggested I buy a third airport express and set it up in between the two I’ve already bought, however, that is impossible as there is only lawn between them.
I feel like I’ve been sold a lemon by apple. Very disillusioned with this product. Complete waste of money.

    Required indefinite restarts

    • Written by from Stafford

While attempting to set it up it would reset itself to update settings and never come back online requiring a hard reset. Ran around in these circles for an hour before giving up - never actually got it setup.

This is probably the worst Apple product that I've worked with or attempted to setup.

    Don't Bother

    • Written by from Tarneit

    Useless piece of rubbish.

The first one I got didn't work. Got a replacement and it was worse. Sent the third one back and got a refund. It worked for about 3 days... and then nothing.

I expected more from Apple. Only gave it one star because I couldn't give it zero.

    Does not work

    • Written by from Reston

I have tried installing 2 of these in the last few days. Both times it will not extend the network connection. I get an error stating "An unexpected error has occurred, please try again". Afterwards the router does not show in the Airport utility window. It only returns after I reset the router by pushing the button.

I suspected the salesman knew there was a problem for the device. He assumed I wanted to return for a refund, not exchange. My desire to try a second airport seem to caught him off guard. Maybe should have taken his hint and just asked for a refund. I am trying it now and will likely return it in the morning.

Now, how do I get my older version back from my cousin??

If you had the last one, don't upgrade

    • Written by from langley

This unit forces you to always have the 2.4 GHz radio on, even if you want to disable it. For me, I don't like it because I have too many 2.4 GHz devices causing interference. It still only has a 10/100 Mbps connection at the back, so your wireless N, whether you use the 5 GHz band or not, will always be choked back to 100 Mbps, which fine for most HD video, but can be a problem in some cases. The only improvement is that the entire unit doesn't need to be plugged into the wall, but that's not worth the upgrade, there are better non apple products out there.

I bough this hoping to extend my Wi-Fi, but sadly it failed. It never connected to my router in the first place, I rested it and restored it to factory default 3 times. I tried a lot of times and it never connected. Very disappointing with this product. I looked at the booklet in side and look at my router. The router was perfectly capable but every time my iPhone said "An unexpected error has accored, please try again"

    Unusable - constantly drops network

    • Written by from Toronto

Purchased this to extend the network from my Time Capsule and in "extend a network" mode it is constantly dropping the network requiring a reboot to join again then drops again after 5-15 minutes. Works slightly better in "join a network" mode. Had to go back to my previous generation Airport Express which isn't as fast but is perfectly reliable.

There are many with the same issues yet no firmware update has been issued by Apple, Google "new airport express extend drops network" to see the scope of the issue.

    Airport Paper weight

    • Written by from murfreesboro

Just bought a new AirPort Extreme hooked it up and set up the wireless, easy. I tried to connect a printer to it and there is no menu or setup to do so after selecting the base station. Then I tried to expand network and it locked up and I can't reset it. So now I own a $200 paper weight. I would give it no stars but I can't.

    Dont wasted your money

    • Written by from cheektowaga

It slow down my actual internet speed connection. does not support airport printing. if you connect any other wireless router you can see the difference in speed. So if you are going to spend this kind of money do it in a better wireless router, just because is apple in this case, it does not really perform.

I wish it would work consitently

    • Written by from San Francisco

We have a complete apple network. Consisting of a new AP Extreme and two airport expresses, and my itunes and OS is up to date.
Literally every other time I go to connect I get the spinning wheel of death for a second then it doesn't connect.
If i fully reboot my entire network it works fine for a couple of days.
I would save my money and not buy this.
