    Breaks Everytime

I'm now on my 3rd macbook (just because I've upgraded and been given one for grad school), and every single one I've gone through AT LEAST 2 of these chargers. I always buy them on Amazon because I can't justify purchasing something for $79 that I know is going to break eventually. It's really disappointing that Apple hasn't addressed this issue (that I know of), and continues to sell this horrible product for $79. I've had my newest macbook/charger for less than 6 months and the wires are already popping out.

I'm a huge supporter of Apple and think they create some incredible products, but this is not one of them. There should definitely be a warranty on the charger when you buy the computer!

    Three adapters in 4 years

I have now gone through two adapters in 4 years. The cord wears thin, frays and breaks open at the junction to the converter. I try to be careful when I wind it up (especially after I had to replace my first one) but it happened a second time. The computer runs great, and I think the charger should last the life of the computer--particularly when it costs $80 to replace them. I feel it wouldn't be that hard of an issue to fix by simply adding more rubber to stiffen the cord.

    2nd adapter in 4 years

Apple really needs a redesign of these things. They seem to break in the same 2 places at the same time. We pay enough for these laptops that the charges should last!

    Undurable

The part of the cable near the jack that plugs into Macbook deteriorates very fast and the entire thing needs to be replaced. Ridiculously flimsy.

GET R&D INVOLVED TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. WE DESERVE AND EXPECT BETTER

TOTALLY APPALLED!! The durability of the power cords is the Achilles' heel of the loyal supporter's defense of all things Apple. With the iPhones and iPads, we just buy a sturdier cord from a third party. But with the MacBook we are held hostage to repeatedly purchase these inferior cords with absolutely no recourse for relief from such rapid deterioration. It's not like we use them for dental floss. After all, without the cord, there is no power.

Until I went online to purchase the third power cord in three years for my husband's MacBook Pro, I thought this problem unique to us. SHAME ON YOU APPLE!!!

For a company that prides itself on quality, the power cords of appear to be the horribly mistreated and neglected stepchildren. I, like so many others are staunch Apple supporters. When others cry about the cost of the latest version or the newest product, we stand behind the name because we know the track record is solid. The actual devices are unarguably the best on the market. But at some point in time there will be a group of us that will get fed up with having to repeatedly shell out funds to keep these top of the line products powered up. WE DESERVE AND EXPECT BETTER!!!!

Apple, please pay attention to your loyal base. Devote just a tiny part of your R&D budget to sturdier power cords that do not fray from basic normal use within the first several months of use.

    Dangerous

I'm in disbelief at how poor of a product this is from Apple. I'm shocked at how dangerous this product is. The cord between the charger box and the laptop developed a crack approximately 2 centimeters from the box. The wires frayed and started sparking! Really Apple? This could easily start a fire and cause all kinds of problems. Think about the number of college kids using this device in their dorms and apartments. This defect could lead to a horrible disaster! APPLE needs to fix this now! I'm so disappointed in APPLE. You did not meet my expectations!

    Slow Charge

Ordered a new adapter once the one purchased with my computer started exposing wires around the contact and bulk part. I can't say it didn't last - got me through 5 years of constant use. My problem with the new purchase is the slow charge ability. If I leave it charging through the night it might reach full by morning. I'm going to inquire with Apple if it's a factory defect. If not then this product's clearly downgraded.

    Absolutely Horrible

These chargers consistently break and wear away within a year. I constantly am forced to replace them. I have owned my mac for 5 years and gone through 6 chargers in that time. They simply do not last, despite any additional efforts I put forward to improve their longevity. Absolute shame these are still sold at $80, makes me hate apple.

The worst laptop charger to exist!

First off, I am a long-time windows user and switched to Apple products in late 2012. I have been pleased with their line of computers along with their software and hardware other than what seems like required maintenance issues every year... so let me explain. I am about to receive my 3rd charger in 3 YEARS from apple because of recalls and/or defects from this line of macbook pro chargers. The first time it happened was when the thin rubber wire connecting to the dock broke off suddenly leaving wires frayed. It happened in just one day there was absolutely no "wear and tear" or damage to the product whatsoever. Applecare thankfully fixed it and gave me a new charger.

Then just recently I was sitting at my desk when all of the sudden my charger started smoking! I went to grab it in a hurry and burned my fingertips! The wires had overheated and caused a small fire to the rubber protective cover. There was even dark brown residue on the rubber cover from the sparks and/or fire! I sent pictures to Apple with all the following details and they are in the process of getting a new charger sent out. I have never regretted owning my macbook pro until now just because of a ridiculous charger issue. I may be switching back to windows if these issues with these chargers are NOT fixed. FIX YOUR DOCK CHARGERS APPLE BEFORE YOU GET A LAWSUIT!

Terrible design, not made to last

The design of this charger is garbage. Sure it has a sleek design that looks nice, but the junction of the laptop cord with the adapter is so weak that even if stored properly will wear out in less than a year. I've gone through two chargers since I bought the laptop in 2012. For such an expensive piece of equipment you would expect a lot more. Apple needs to read the reviews on their own product, because they're failing their consumers, but of course they won't because it's just another way to make more money...not pleased

    Just do not last

Very bad cables. I had to replace my original with a newly branded apple cable. Guess what it did not even last 6 months. The cable broke. Tried attaching with tapes and stuff.

    Dear Apple,

We purchase your products with utmost trust and love for the product. I paid £60 for this cable and I am extremely unhappy. Now I have to pay another £60 to get a new cable. I request you to take some action and better the product.

Please donot lose our trust by providing such kind of products.

    Always Have A Spare

i Have gone through 4 cords in just over 7 years. My last cord lasted a grand total of 13 months. I rarely unplug it from the outlet and am always sure to remove it from the wall when I do so. My sisters have the same cord and travel more frequently then I have (one cord the wires are visible and it still works) but my cord which is almost brand new no longer works. I would always recommend having a spare cause you never know when its going to quit on you. Very disappointed with this product and its reliability.

    Not made to last

I broke 3 of these wires already. For a laptop that is as sturdy and as well built as the macbook, it is a shame that i need to buy this cable every year or two given its price. Its head always seems to seperate from the rest of the wire and i have no alternative then to keep buying this as the reviews for the unofficial wires are even worst.

    Horrendous

Just bought a new one for $80 (which is far too much to charge for such a POS). The cords break easily with normal use, especially where the connecter meets the computer. I had to use electrical tape to hold my last one together. They get so hot when charging that they are a fire hazard. When I saw the price of the charger at Best Buy, I decided to take the liberty of picking out my next computer while I was there because I am ditching Apple at the earliest opportunity. Don't waste your money.

    dissapointed

I love my MacBook Pro however I am about to buy my 3rd charger in 2 years. My most recent charger only lasted at most a year and now the L portion comes unattached from the cord when I try to unplug it from my computer. This is ridiculous and I am disappointed to spend $80 on another charger that isn't going to last.

must be treated like a baby

Broke after 2 years on #1, broke after 1 year for #2. I am currently looking for a new charger for my mac book. Seeing it is old AF but still working. I have purchased 2 and the 2nd one has lasted 6 years only because I haven't used it in forever. Looking to gift it to a family member for school wishing I didn't have to spend $79.00 to replace it. Probably will though conciderimg it would be shifty of me to give someone a broken gift.

    Breaks too easily

This product seems like it is manufactured to break. Make a more durable and cheaper design. This is trash for the amount of money it costs.

I've had them for years with no issues

I'm writing this because of all the negative reviews. I've had my computer for a little over 4 years and no problems with the computer or adapter. I had the same adapter for my 2008 MacBook and the only reason it's not working now is my then puppy got to it when I wasn't looking (and even considering he bit down to the wire, it still worked most of the time for months). I'm always careful with my electronics (puppy notwithstanding) but I don't think you should have a problem with this item if you're reasonably careful.

    Just fine

I've never had a moment's trouble from this charger in the past six years until my cats got ahold of it and chewed it to pieces. There is something in the white cable that attracts them...some chemical or smell. They don't chew any black cables, just white ones. Expensive cats. They should get a job.

MagSafe Power adaptors do not last

The chords fray/bend, and do not last. I have to keep buying new ones. Ir is really outrageous that Apple sells such junk and does not permit third party products.

Also, all the chords are 1) flimsy and 2)white. so they easily get tangled and I cant tell one device chord from another.

Honestly, Mac, the design is pathetic. Enough to make me go Dell next time........
