    Excellent product if you're responsible

These cables are great, with an excellent design. Some of the reviews state they break within 6-8 months, but my refresh has been more like 1 every 3 years. A lot can be said for being careful, and keep in mind these cables are covered UNDER WARRANTY and UNDER APPLECARE, so if you're complaining about having to buy one, the first one either paid itself off or its your own fault.
The new "L" shape design is much improved over the "T" shape used previously and I love the safety benefit of the Magsafe plug itself. Take good care of it and you'll be fine.

    How can this be?

I bought my 13" Macbook in 2009 and never had a problem with the charger until, my puppy decided to use it as a toy last night in 2012...sigh! Now I am disappointed to see how many of you got such bad quality adapters since I have to replace mine!
How can this be? Apple is such a great product!
I will buy a new one today and cross my fingers to get the same kind I had all these years!

    new power.

Interesting comments. Thank you, as you surprised me! My three here old cord works like a trooper. At times, it gets a bit hot [after a long day and night] its expected. But, 'never as HOT as any friend's dell or HP, etc. The only reason it needs replacing, my son's pup chewed it up. ~I am sure the new one will serve me well.

    Great Product

I have had the same MacBook and MagSafe Power Adapter for over two years and never had a problem with charging. Great reliable product.

Very Impressed! But the MB Pros?

I am extremely happy with my newest purchase for my MacBook! This adaptor works great and stays put when I want it too! Typing up papers and having fun on the net is much less worrisome now that my adaptor won't unplug itself all the time. The innovative design of the cylinder running alongside the laptop vs a box sticking out, genius! Now I can use my Mac actually on my lap. However, when is the MB Pro line going to come out with the same design -with an 80W?? I know plenty of people who would buy one! Please GET ON WITH MAKING THEM! :D

Own three of them, no failures

As with others in the five-star bin, I really don't understand why people are experiencing so many failures with these units. One of the 60W magsafes I own is original equipment for a 4-year-old MacBook pro. The machine gets almost daily use, including being moved back and forth between different locations, and receiving less than gentle treatment. The hard-drive on this MacBook has failed and been replaced, and I'm about to replace its noisy fan. The power adapter still works just fine.

To be sure, there are a number things of about Apple products and services that annoy the heck out of me. This particular power adapter just isn't one of them.

    No problems

Three months on works perfectly. My old one lasted five years, and I see no reason this one won't. The only caveat is that, as a minor electronics geek, I have learned to care for cables that I can't afford to have break. All flexible cables have weak spots where they enter and exit other parts and components. I abandoned the fold-out hooks on my old adapter and this one too because of the angle where the cord exits the brick. Pulling the cord at ninety degrees to wrap it will make it fail sooner. I also never pull on the cord to release the MagSafe. Take simple precautions and this will last years.

    Lasts indefinitely, performs as specified

I have owned two MacBooks for four and five years respectively. One power adapter recently failed, fraying near the Magsafe connector, and I just purchased a replacement. That adapter was used by a family member who insisted on treating it harshly. Mine continues to provided perfect service.

The same is true of the two MacBooks I purchased for my company, also four plus years old. These are shared, used by various people for travel. The adapters remain intact, and continue to provide good service.

The MagSafe feature has prevented major damage to these MacBooks on more than one occasion, which makes the $80 price worthwhile. My experience is that, with reasonable care, these adapters last indefinitely.

Reports of my lack of quality have been greatly exaggerated

I have owned three Macbook magsafe power adapters. They have lasted quite well. The first one had issues with the connection where it was pulled out of the wall. That one was of poorer quality. However, my last two have lasted quite well, and the magnetic aspect of the adapter is fantastic. It has saved my computer many times by simply releasing instead of pulling the computer down.

I think there is still room for improvement, but they are overall the best adapter on the market because of how nice the magnetic aspect is.

    MagSafe Power Adapter

This is a great product, I don't know why so many people have issues with their chargers because I've had mine since May 2010 and I trip over it all the time and yet it still functions perfectly. Also, my brother has had his macbook since 2008 using the same MagSafe Power Adapter. My best friend also has had his macbook pro since 2007 and uses the same charger and has no difficulties. So overall fantastic product!

    Best Charger Ever!!

I think this charger is the best because if someone pulls at it by accident the magnet will release and your computer will stay exactly where it is, and it seems to be a quick charge (Even though I think that's just the computer itsefl) But overall, great charger!!

    MAG ONLY

This is a review of the magnet end only. I got no issues with the rest.
Because the magnet leaves the computer and 90 degree turns there is more leverage applied from the cord and it pops off very well and often. I think the previous straight out plug design works better at staying attached. The new one is I must say more elegant and streamlined but less functional.

Lucky for me I still got one.

Never any problem with my Power Adapters

Just want to add my experience with the power adapter. I guess people who review the product have had problems and therefore are purchasing a new one. We have bought several just for the convenience of not having to move the power cord each time we take the powerbook to another location. In all the years we have had powerbooks - probably 5 or 6 now we have never had one fail.

Good investment. I have never had an Apple-made magsafe power adapter fail

I have never had an Apple-made magsafe power adapter fail.

With my first MacBook, I bought two extra power adapters to keep one plugged in at work, and two at home to keep from moving furniture all the time to reach outlets.

It's a huge convenience. It keeps the yanking and bending to a minimum.

It was a good investment, too. After many, many thousands of hours of use, I still have and use both of the extras I bought in 2007. One of them is getting a little grubby from the dog laying on it.

I also know someone who ruins one about every six months. Another person in the same household who uses his MacBook a lot has never replaced one after six years of heavy use.

They are thin but strong enough for heavy daily use with a little care. If you use them rough, expect to replace them more often.

    Amazing!!

I absolutely love the MagSafe Power Adapter since I have tripped over my laptop charger cable before, this one just detaches from the computer without bringing the computer to the floor.

Not sure what everyone's talking about..

I've had my charger for my mac pro 2010 since I bought it in the fall of 2010 and it's worked fine all along. It's a matter of transporting the charger using the horns to wrap the cord around the adapter and treating it with care, as if it's an extension of the laptop itself at all times. The only reason why i'm here is I believe it's run it's course and I'm in the market for replacement 3 years after I got it.

    Awesome!

Great charger, great design! We've had our white 13 inch MacBook since May 2006 and when the original charger stopped working about a year ago we needed to get another one. We decided to go with this new design instead of the original because it laid flat closer to the computer. So far, so good. It works well and we have zero complaints. Also, having a plug that rests closer to the MacBook is nice, especially with little kids in the home.

Maybe not perfect but the best there is for now.

I'm a PC technician and have had my macbook for almost 4 years. 3 months ago I replaced my power adapter because I wore out the cable with years of use. It still works, but the light doesn't and you can see the metal in the wire at the block. I taped the heck out of it and it's the permanent hookup at the desk. The new one was not cheap but well worth the money spent on it. Much better than the dozens of computers that we have had to rewire or cobb up because the power adapter was broken off the motherboard or case. I will take this any day vs the alternative. Not to mention that most of my colleagues with PCs are on their 2nd or 3rd machine since I've owned this one. I've never seen a situation where Apple didn't replace a unit that was legitimately a problem, within and sometimes out of warranty.
