    Pathetic quality

    • Written by from Gzb

This is simply rediculous. This is the second L-shape Apple 60W Magsafe Power Adaptor which has stopped working. I have macbook pro since past 3 years and had to purchase an additional adaptor. The second one also stopped working.
Apple should either work on its quality or should provide a free replacement service. After investing this heavy amount to own a macbook pro, if I have to continue purchasing (must say) expencive adapter every year, its not worth it.

Can apple please do something to rectify the issue, without charging a heafty amount of money from customer's pocket.

I have two, never had a problem

One for travel, one for my home office. About 4 years. They work fine, never given me a problem. Maybe I'm just super careful, but four years. So far.

    Onto my third...

    • Written by from Royal Oak

Like some of the other reviewers, I have had to replace my power adapters every 2 years as well. It's getting ridiculous. I know Apple can design one that doesn't fray and come apart so what's the hold up?

    Terrible product!

    • Written by from Roselle

Apple, what are you doing? Products used to last. This "newer" 60W MagSafe Power L-shaped Adapter lasted two years exactly. Two years!!! Does this mean I have to purchase adapters every two years now? It's ridiculous that they cost $79! I still have the original iPod and iPhone adapters and they're still going strong. How about improving this product? So disappointed with you. Is this how you treat your loyal customers? Listen to us!

Good investment. I have never had an Apple-made magsafe power adapter fail

    • Written by from Williston

I have never had an Apple-made magsafe power adapter fail.

With my first MacBook, I bought two extra power adapters to keep one plugged in at work, and two at home to keep from moving furniture all the time to reach outlets.

It's a huge convenience. It keeps the yanking and bending to a minimum.

It was a good investment, too. After many, many thousands of hours of use, I still have and use both of the extras I bought in 2007. One of them is getting a little grubby from the dog laying on it.

I also know someone who ruins one about every six months. Another person in the same household who uses his MacBook a lot has never replaced one after six years of heavy use.

They are thin but strong enough for heavy daily use with a little care. If you use them rough, expect to replace them more often.

Difficult to use, breaks often, and costs a fortune

    • Written by from Hixson

The grip for the plug that goes into the wall is tapered and slick. That makes it hard to unplug, as it takes a very firm grip to keep my fingers from sliding off.

The end that plugs into the laptop is also difficult to grip, because it is rounded and tiny. I have to try to wedge my fingertips/fingernails between the adapter and the laptop to unplug it. It's a pain in the neck.

Like many users, I have already had to replace my adapter twice because the cord frayed. I didn't abuse the first cord at all, and I was very careful with the second one.

As if the cords aren't bad enough to start with, the last one keeps trying to twist so that the adapter points at the ceiling instead of at the laptop. I have to twist it to plug it in, which can't be good for it. I tried turning the box (in the middle of the cord) up on end to force the magsafe end to go in the right direction, but then the cord coming out of the box sagged, and it was a pain to keep the box from falling over.

This adapter is a piece of junk that needs frequent replacements to the tune of $80 a pop.

This is literally my 5th charger that I've used for my macbook. I take very good care of my charger. I wrap it when it is not in use, and I make sure there are no kinks or bends in the chord. my chord is not frayed and none of them have been, and they KEPP BREAKING.
it is absolutely ridiculous. I've bought 4 new chargers, and I'm absolutely tired of it.
If I could give this 0 stars I would.

    Questionable Quality

    • Written by from Plymouth

The original Magsafe charger ("T" style) for my early 2008 Macbook Pro held up pretty well. It lasted about 5 years with some heavy usage and travel. It finally quit charging, although it would still run the computer. So I bought a replacement ("L" style) from the Apple store near me. Less than 9 months later, that one had melted near the charger. If I need another one, I will definitely look to see if I can find one that has the "T" style connector. The current one is garbage.

    Form over function

    • Written by from West Haven

When buying a MacBook or MacBook Pro, be sure to add the cost of three or four power adapters to the total cost of ownership. In as short of a time as a few months, the rubber on the wire starts to disintegrate, and then the wire frays, and then you need a new adapter. I've started wrapping the wire near the MagSafe connector with electrician's tape as soon as I buy an adapter as a preventive measure.

Advice to Apple: use a thicker, higher quality wire wrap that will last more than a few months. You know, like the wires on PC laptop power adapters that cost less than half the price of an Apple adapter!

    Defective product

This is the 3rd charger I've purchased for macbook I've had for 5 years. It is the worst, the others had worn out cord connections, and eventually didn't work, this one surges and turns my computer off and doesn't work with no fraying of the cord connections.

    Agree with Poor Design

    • Written by from Muncie

I am very happy with my Macbook, which has lasted over 6 years and still serves it purpose. As far as the charger goes, however, I believe this is the third time replacing it with what I would consider normal, every day use. The cord has come apart at the magnetic connector once again, and electrical tape helped for a while, but it is time to give in to purchasing another one. $79 is VERY expensive for a charger - I think I will definitely look into upgrading my laptop in a year in the nearer future and hope that the issue has been resolved in the newer models. I didn't realize this is so common until reading the other reviews.

    Power Adapter Works Superbly

    • Written by from Houston

First, I am in a wheelchair so the floor is convenient to place the laptop down while I go from my chair to my wheelchair. My adapter works well even though while moving it I stepped on the computer end and it came apart--the round head came apart from the little wires that go into your computer. It works fine because I simply pushed it back together. Why am I buying another one? Because I want to have an adapter in the living room and one in the bedroom (-:

I have been a fan of Apple since 85-86 and there have been no problems at all. FYI: I am 68, did my own graphic design business, retired and I use Apple--everyday. From desktop to laptop, about 10 computers, every new one was based upon my supposed need, and they were/are great.

    Apple MagSafe Power Adaptor

    • Written by from Vancouver

I have been reading several reviews on here, and also have had experience with my own MagSafe adaptor, my partner's with her adaptor, her two daughter's with their adaptors, and my own 3 daughters with their adaptors. First and foremost, let us agree that these adaptors are not indestructible. They will break most commonly at the wire connection going into the MagSafe power box, or at the L or T connector. The question is really, how much care or abuse are you going to subject your MagSafe to? I have worked as an audiovisual tech for a number of years, and have taught them all to wind the cords a certain way to prevent kinking or twisting in the wire (especially after they destroyed their original chargers). Many people like to wind the cord around the two tabs provided on the MagSafe charger box, but when you do this, you put a tremendous strain on the wire which only shortens the life of the unit. Secondly, I have always emphasized not pulling on the cord to disconnect the charger, but rather grabbing the head or the MagSafe charger box. These chargers can last a number of years if you take care of them. I am still working with my original charger from 2008 - 7 years.

Has lasted 7 YEARS and COUNTING!

    • Written by from Pico Rivera

I bought my macbook pro in 2008 and have used it A LOT going through medical school and beyond. I have the ORIGINAL charger from 2008 and it is still in great shape with no tears (just looks dirty now). I take it everywhere- coffee shops, libraries, everywhere I have studied and even drag it along the floor moving from one couch to another, and it is still in great shape! Which makes me think:

WHAT ARE PEOPLE DOING TO THEIR CHARGERS to make them break in 2 months (previous reviews) when mine has lasted 7 brutal years and counting!?!!

Im finally upgrading to the new 12 macbook but will be giving my current mac and CHARGER to my nephew for continued use.
