    Absolute Garbage...

    • Written by from Sault Ste. Marie

I take good care of all of my stuff, yet some how I have gone through 4 of these stupid power supplies in the 3 years I've had my computer.

All of them break due to the weak joint in the power connection. I'm really upset about the low quality of these joints.

    Easily Broken

    • Written by from San Lorenzo

I've had this charger appox. 5 months, and I started having problems with the charger 1-2 months ago, sometimes it wouldn't charge and sometimes the charger head would feel really hot. It has broken completely yesterday. It is not worth buying a $80 replacement as a Highschool student, that is fraeking expensive.

    Found the Problem!

    • Written by from Westminster

I've had my 15" MacBook for almost a year now and I was really concerned when it stopped charging, the light on my power adapter wouldn't turn on and the computer wouldn't recognize that it was plugged in. The problem started out intermittently, I would plug the cord in and the either the light wasn't on or the computer wouldn't recognize it was charging. For a few days I simply had to unplug the cord from the wall and computer and replug it in in (to wall then computer, never computer then wall) and it would start charging again.
Eventually it stopped working all together. Reading all the reviews online I was sure my charger had completely died and that I would have to get a whole new one. I called the 1-800-MY-APPLE in case the problem was fixable.

IT WAS. Please, please PLEASE TRY THIS BEFORE YOU BUY A NEW CORD. I would've been beyond PO'ed if I'd bought a new cord just to find this was the problem all along. The tech support guy instructed me to push the small metal prongs inside the magsafe connector (the part that plugs into the comp) in and out several times, because sometimes debris can become caught inside it. MY LAPTOP IS NOW CHARGING! He did say to keep an eye on it and that sometimes they do completely die, But at least I know that my adapter can and probably will last longer than a year!

I am chiming in on the lousy durability and have voted 'yes' on the helpfulness of each poor review for the last couple months. We have to raise our voices somehow. C'mon, Apple. Show your consumers the love you spend so much time and money cultivating.

    What were they thinking?

    • Written by from brooklyn

This is by far the worst product ever made. I've had my macbook since August 2011 and I'm going on my 4th charger. They can make a computer that last's forever, but not a charger.

The worst part is they know it doesn't work, but continue to sell them. They really need to go back to the drawing board on this one.

Worse Part of owning a Mac

    • Written by from Merced

These chargers are absolutely terrible. Everyone always asks me why i take such care in wrapping my power chord and I always tell them that it's made of glass. I've had to replace it 3x in the past five years, and I don't know why I keep on doing it. Apple doesn't sell each part separately so I have a nice collection of the thick power chords to go along with them. Apple should seriously look into redesigning a charger that pretty much hasn't changed since I got my first mac, and the fact that they still only last about one and a quarter years is just ridiculous seeing how they're $80 a pop. I was relieve to see that I'm not the only one with this frustration but then it almost angered me that Apple hasn't listened to their customers' outcries about a terribly made product.

    Total Piece of Junk!

    • Written by from Torrance

I am a big fan of all of Apple"s products, except this one. I had to replace the old mag safe charger on my last Mac because it was defective and recalled. Now I have to replace the new style adapter that supposedly fixed the problem, but this time I had to pay the apple tax. The newer style DOES NOT fix the problem, the wires still come apart in the same exact spot as the older, recalled mag safe adapter but this time you can't see the exposed wires. I was even told by a Mac genius that they had never had a problem with the new style, but I choose to believe that's not true based on the 800 or so bad reviews for this product. I have to go before my new charger breaks as well, thanks Apple...I really wish I could give it less than one star.....

Apple should be ashamed about how bad their chargers are. If they were $40 and broke ALL THE TIME then fine. but $80? total rip off. They should at least offer a discount if you send in your broken one to prove you didn't just lose it but the poor craftsmanship failed.

    • Written by from Minooka

Things like this are what make me regret my purchase of ANY Apple products. These chargers are awful and they're expensive. Heck...give me a couple hundred more dollars and I'll buy a whole new computer.

These chargers get outrageously hot, you have to be METICULOUSLY careful with them or the wires will bend and break, and with my charger I have to unplug it and plug it back in frequently because it stops working.

I wish I could speak more highly of your product.

I love my MacBook Pro, and I loved the power adapter. Now I see what everybody's talking about. I have had my Mac for a year and some months and the power adapter won't even connect enough to power the LED on it. Apple says they listen to their customers, if they truly do, they will change this piece of &#^¥. I paid over $1000 for a computer and I expected quality. One star? I only put it because they made me.

Easy fix. Why isn't it made?

    • Written by from Charlottesville

I really like the magnetic coupling.

But when a plug -- any plug -- connects to a flexible cord, something's gonna fray.
In the journey to ineffable durability, one must accept also the beauty of the transient.

    Keep the wonderful magnetic coupling.
Make the cord itself detachable at both ends
    and cheap.
    Price it at $10.
    Make the first replacement free.

It is the path of wisdom to embrace the disposable as well as the permanent and not gouge the customer $82 a shot.

Worst charger ever. Mine died again tonight. I will go purchase my THIRD one tomorrow. Apple is definitely making money off these charges because consumers have no choice but to go buy a new charger, otherwise Macbook is a paperweight. I LOVE Apple/Mac products and have converted several people from PCs to Mac, but this charger is JUNK.

    Thanks Apple. Another $84.

    Onto my third charger

    • Written by from Poway

In the past eight months three of my brand new macbook chargers have just completely stopped working. At first they usually just work intermittently but eventually that light just never comes back on again. I am getting so sick of taking it into the apple store and getting a new one. Fortunately I am still covered under the extended warranty, but I would just like to get one of the old chargers again or have apple fix whatever is wrong.

I wish I could give NEGATIVE stars!

    • Written by from COLUMBUS

First I have to say....I LOVE MY MAC. It's sentimental to me because I bought it while deployed in 2008. However, I now have to buy another charger because the craftsmanship of this product is subpar. My cord is frayed and I'm surprised it hasn't caused an electrical fire in my home. For an 80 dollar charger, you would expect it to last at least 3 years or more. I seriously think it's time for a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. This is criminal!

    All Apple chargers are garbage.

    • Written by from Geneva

Apple cares more about the aesthetic properties of their power cables than functionality and integrity. Even when stored properly at home or for travel, it's unlikely that any of their chargers will last a year before the white rubbery plastic covering the cables will crack and fall apart, exposing the wires underneath.

You'd think that since they care so much about their image, Apple would start using the tried and true plastic that insulates the wires on virtually every other electronic device. Like my desk lamp; I've had it for six years, ran over the power cord countless times with a vacuum cleaner, and the chunky black plastic has never split. I haven't even subjected my MacBook charger to that kind of abuse and the plastic on the cable was falling apart after just one year.

Seriously Apple, I thought you cared about me looking cool, Like Justin Long! Now whenever I have to charge my MacBook in public, I have to use the terrible abomination that is my 60W MagSafe Power Adapter: a disgusting, dusty, hairy, multi-colored serpent of electrical tape wound nearly a quarter of an inch thick. I seriously feel like a clown whenever I have to pull it out of my backback; not only because it looks like I'm reeling in one of those endless rainbow magician handkerchiefs, but because children start to cry.

I feel like Apple is treating me like a clown too, because now that the cord has become completely separated from the power brick, I have to go buy a new one.. FOR EIGHTY DOLLARS! An $80 mistake that will undoubtedly fall apart by the end of 2016. I don't even know If I'll be around to see 2016; a Coulrophobic lynch mob could take me at any moment!

It stinks, because I know I'm going to have to buy a new one at full price. This time around, I'm going to try a couple different things to protect the charger's god-awful Play-Doh cord from the dangerous, abrasive environment created by a carpeted floor. Obviously, wrapping the cord neatly around the power brick's retractable hooks is pointless. Perhaps prayer, or using a microfiber cloth to work leather conditioner into it every day will do the trick. Or maybe a preemptive layer of electrical tape will prolong it's life a couple years (It would be great if this new one lives long enough to be enrolled in kindergarten!). Either way, I'm open to suggestions, hopefully Apple is too.

... Because it makes them a lot of money. It's funny reading/seeing all these 1 star reviews! lol. I've had 2 faulty chargers, and I learned how to fix them with a soldering iron on YouTube. Then my wife's charger died too. Anyway, I'm ACTUALLY now considering switching to toshiba or something just because of this power issue. I love th Apple UI.software, but I feel taken advantage of. I will switch knowing that I'll miss the apple experience, but I'd rather have a better built product, especially if it's cheaper too.

This is my third charger in four years... Nothing is wrong with the cord's exterior, yet AGAIN it crapped out on me. I'm a designer and work part time from home. I need my computer at all times. Apple, how can you make such a worthless product??? I'm SO angry. I bought two other chargers on ebay instead of investing in your worthless charger again.

I am on my 4th adapter in 3 years. I got Applecare specifically to keep being able to replace this thing. Its useless. Unless of course you carry it around in a special box to avoid bending any of the cords. Because power cords on a portable computer should not be moved.... How is this issue STILL not being addressed?!

6th charger, 3rd of this kind

    • Written by

All I can say is that with the high price and horrible quality of these cords, I will not be buying a macbook for my next computer. I have spent $500 on cords for one computer. Nice little profit boost for Apple. This cord is a slight improvement over the previous version but the actual cord does not stand the test of time. The material of the cord isn't sturdy at all. The part that attaches to the magnetic port is also made poorly. I have to jiggle it to get it to keep charging and because of that it came apart completely after awhile. You shouldn't have to constantly be thinking about whether or not your computer is charging while using your computer. You also shouldn't have to sit like a stone statue to ensure it stays in the "sweet spot". If you buy one of these cord I highly suggest that you take a roll of white duct tape and wrap it around the length of the cord up to the power box. The 6th cord broke this camel's back and I'm writing this review on 18% battery. I will be getting myself any computer that isn't a macbook for this Christmas because of a stupid little cord...
