    These adapters are the worst.

    • Written by from Kingston

Honestly, these adapters have gone so down hill so quickly over the past two years. I had to replace my charger for my brand new 13" Macbook Pro with Retina display after only 6 months. And now that charger has also broken in the same place. These are so expensive that I feel like buying two every year is insane and unacceptable considering the high standards that I would normally associate with Apple products.

    What does the research say?

    • Written by from Greensboro

I have owned at least five apple computers, three being laptops. The power adapter initially pretty awesome! The cool lifts to wrap the cord around to keep things tidy pretty cool. Until it destroys the soft rubber tubing and rips into the conduit for your power supply. This is my third adapter!! Really is that the cost of doing business? Suggestion if it hasn't already been made, can we get carbon tubing on the next power supply?

I'm currently on my 3rd power adapter, mind you I take care of it and try not to roll it up or anything. The part where the cable meets the plug keeps cracking and exposing the metal cables inside. I thought after the first time changing it that I wouldn't have a problem but it happened again. Now on my 3rd mag and lets see how long this is going to last, they need to work on a steonger material so it does not crack and create and issue

I wish I could give fewer stars

    • Written by from Wethersfield

Does it even matter what I write? Clearly Apple doesn't care that we ALL hate this stupid charger. Just like the other 1,772 people who rated this product 1 star, I hate this charger because it isn't durable AT ALL. This is my fourth charger and I have had to change my studying and note-taking habits specifically because of this janky charger. I'm terrified to take my computer anywhere because I'll need to charge it and quite frankly if I touch the charger at all I'm scared it will break. So thanks for the messed up hand from having to handwrite for two years of law school classes and studying. I have no idea why I even bother with this company.

3rd adapter in 1 1/2 years. Not durable design

    • Written by from Oxford

Worst product in Apple's line. Highly frustrating. It changes how I interact with my Macbook. I have taped both endings where it usually breaks with black isolating tape to strengthen it. It looks horrible. Please redesign this product, in case I choose to get another Mac.

    Bad cords

    • Written by from Lake Mary

I am about to buy my 5th charger in 4 years. My first one I had to replace because it started to fray because it couldn't handle the new silver macbooks. Then, they came out with the new expensive one so that died out after 6 months. I ended up buying a new macbook anyway and within 3 days, the charger crapped out so I had a friend who worked at apple switch the chargers out. #4 charger just crapped out on me just today and I stole my brother's charger but it is spotty too. Apple, something's gotta give.

Ugh this is my second time purchasing this charger for my mac. Apple seriously needs to reconsider it's design cause this is not durable at all! Every year I have to get a new charger and it's so frustrating!

    I hate this charger

    • Written by from Elk Grove

I have gone through three of these chargers in the past two years. As a student I'm constantly carrying my charger around with me and using it in odd places. And every time, after about a couple weeks, my charger starts to fray and stop working. Before that I had my original charger that was the old version of the MagSafe and that worked beautifully for four years without any damage until the cat I was watching got to it.
The quality of this product is atrocious, especially compared to the old version.
It does not last. It can not take any abuse that should be standard with a charger for a portable device.
If there was any other alternative I would say do not buy this product.

I've had my power adapter for just over 2 months and it's not even working anymore. What the heck, Apple?! Very disappointing, especially after seeing on here that I'm not the only person this has happened to. I hope you'll do the right thing and return my money or replace this piece of junk. :(

Biggest piece of garbage on earth!

    • Written by from Lincoln

WOW Apple. Really? I have to go through 3 chargers in 3 years? This is the most horribly built POS (besides the iPhone) thing I have ever used. I spend over a thousand dollars on your computer and you allow this cr*p charger to accompany it? This charger is the WORST charger in the entire world. And $80 for a replacement is outrageous, but you'll NEVER listen to your customers because YOU tell US what is best for us. Well I'm never listening to you or buying your garbage again!

Come on Apple! This product is terrible

    • Written by from Colorado Springs

I love my MacBook Pro, but I am about to run out and buy my 3rd power cord in the 3 yrs I've owned my computer. Not a problem if they were reasonably priced, but $80 come on! What a rip off for a product that won't last more than a year. These cords always fray right near the power adapter and where they enter the computer, I tried to tape my most recent one with electrical tape at the points to prolong its life, but instead it just frayed right where the tape ends. Apple, I am sure you have got to have enough brain power to make some more durable cords, get to work! In the meantime, lower the price on your current cords.

I guess I should consider myself lucky...mine lasted a little over a year

    • Written by from Hauppauge

I just came on to purchase a replacement adapter and saw all the negative comments. Some people had to replace the adapter after only months of use. That is crazy!!!! I take care of my laptop and adapter and today, all of a sudden, I saw it was cracked/melting. It did last over a year so does that mean I should consider myself lucky....(sigh). Hopefully Apple makes note of all these negative comments and does something to improve the quality of these adapters.

This power adapter is by far the worst product I've ever used. We spend thousands of dollars on a laptop and have to spend more because neither the battery of power adapter can go on for more than a year. Unfortunately, we don't have a choice but to buy an Apple Power Adapter because only Apple makes it. After a while when you connect the charger to the laptop you have push or adjust it for it to start charging or else it just sitting there not charging.

    Poor quality, expensive to replace

    • Written by from Mercer Island

This is an awful charger and stops working usually between a few months and a year. It doesn't stop working because of the user, it stops working because of poor quality of the product. After a little over a year I had to replace mine because it wouldn't charge the laptop, and Apple charges $80 to replace it!

It's not uncommon either. I have yet to meet anyone college-aged with a laptop more than a year old who hasn't had to replace this charger at least once. If your computer is out of it's one-year warranty don't expect Apply to replace it's obviously poor quality and defective product.

I'm on my third one. Mine don't fray, but eventually I'll plug it in to the laptop and nothing happens. No light, they just die. I'll think it's my laptop. But it's always the power adapter. The brick gets really hot I guess and shorts itself out.

The charger is expensive but they don't last too long. If it lasted longer maybe the $80 would be worth spending.

Cheaply made, lasts around 12 months

    • Written by from Evans

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro, with the 60W MagSafe Power Adapter. I am on my fourth adapter in 4 years. At $80 each these things really should last more than 1 year. My old Dell laptop never had the charger fail. Don't get me wrong, I love the Macbook, but the chargers are junk. The plastic covering the cable next to Magsafe adapter breaks and the cable eventually stops charging all together.
