Why don't you fix your charger cable?

I have tried to keep my charger cable stable, but it started to fray. Last time I went to Applestore because the charger stopped working, people at applestore was like "oh, you are supposed to wrap the cable around the charger so it stays stable." I did that. My new charger is starting to stopped working agian. Why can't you guys make the cable thicker or add supporting element around where cable ends and starts? There are so many people writing reviews about that here. You clearly know the problem. Why don't you fix it? If you can't fix it, at least lower the price of charger. When you keep the price high and don't fix an obvious problem, you leave your customers thinking you don't care about your customers, just money.

    Expensive rubbish

Second charger just broke and it was just over a year old. Poor quality and very expensive. Thumbs down!

    TOTAL Garbage Quality!

I've had to replace 2 of these offensively overpriced pieces of junk now and my third one just broke! Total garbage quality and ridiculous price to pay to replace. So glad Apple sells me a MacBook Pro 17" fully loaded for nearly $4K and the piece of garbage power cord, that if broken, renders the machine useless is almost $100 and lasts about a year, if I'm lucky. I'm careful with my cords too. I've managed to keep the machine in good working condition for almost six years, I wish the actual piece of equipment that makes the whole thing work had the same quality . . . Mercedes machine reliant on a Ford Pinto cord. Come on Apple, get it together. And if your business model is to sell a good machine and then rake in the dough on below poor quality accessories, then shame on you.

    Really!?

I spent top dollar for a MacBook Pro and the power cord stops working after just a year. All other computer makers make better power cords. C'mon!

If I could give 0 stars I would

I cannot believe that this terrible adapter is so ridiculously expensive. I've had mine for less than 3 months and it already has multiple rips and tears, and it's beginning to fray at the end. I have been using my HP's far cheaper charger for 2 years and it hasn't had any of these issues. Why do you have to do this to your loyal customers Apple?

    ZERO stars

I rather buy a PC than keep getting to deal with your cables. Why do they peel like bananas? They are so badly designed that all of them will get a short. Iphone, MacBooks, you name it. If it is a power cable designed by Apple, it is worthless.

Very poor quality build. Needs reinforcement

I have had my Macbook pro for about 4 years now and out of these 4 years, I have replaced my charger about 3 times. Now that my MacBook is out of warranty, the charger has yet again failed and here I am, A college student with a close to minimum wage job trying not to spend a third of his paycheck on a stupid charger! No thanks. Definitely going to invest in another computer in the future.

    Poor Quality

Just like everyone else, the rubber portion frays very quickly due to the heat and breaks apart. For $79, I would expect a higher quality product.

Please improve the quality of these cords

I am getting pretty tired of buying these cords. I have owned my Macbook since 2009 and I am now on my 5th charger cord. I spent $3300 on a laptop and get a charging cable the quality of a dollar store cable. It just doesn't make sense. If I had gone through two cables max that would be reasonable but five is ridiculous. C'mon Apple.

    Still fraying

As everyone else said: The cables of these power adapters fray too easily and too quickly, even with the best care.

Mag Safe Adapter - Round three

I am an Apple devotee. However, for a company that puts such so much emphasis on quality and cutting edge, these adapters are horrible. I am now on my third adapter for five year old computer. If they are going to be such poor quality, and Apple cannot fix the problem, I think it would be a smart move to at least lower the price. If there was one thing that would get me to look to a PC, it would be this item. Please, Apple, fix this item so that measures up to the rest of your products.

    Very poor quality of product

Its been just over an year since I bought MacBook Pro and the charger started fraying very badly, particularly near the connector. Looks like the quality of rubber shielding used is inappropriate to withstand high temperatures near the connector and as result rubber softens and eventually starts fraying.

I am hoping apple improves their power adapter's cable quality!

The Magsafe Power Adapters are total Junk!

I have used my Macbrook Pro very infrequently yet this power adapter has already broken. It crackles at the source of connection and goes off with the slightest movement of the cord. My next computer will not be an Apple unless this gets fixed. Very disappointed.

    Consumable

Expect to go through as many of these as you go through toner or inkjet cartridges. This is basically the disposable/consumable part of owning a Mac laptop. The engineering on the connector is much worse than you'd find on a Lenovo, and the newer MagSafe 2's aren't much better. It's amazing with everything else being so high quality that Apple can't solve this.

Life long customer put off because of this charger.

I've gone through 3 of these poorly-made chargers. The first one's cord frayed. The second one's cord frayed. The third one shorted and was determined to be "user damage" after 2 months of normal use. None of them were replaced by Apple. All Genius employees told me that these product faults were my own doing. A short -- an electrical fault -- was my doing.

This charger will break. It will. There is no getting around it. Even if you never touch it, never unplug it, never move it, it will break. Be prepared to spend another $95 on a new one within 3 months of purchase.

Designed to have a limited life

I have the same complaint as everyone else. No matter how careful you are with these, the cord frays in very short order. It would be such a simple thing to fix. Make the thin MagSafe cord modular so that the whole unit doesn't have to be replaced. This is such an obvious fix that I can only assume Apple's not implementing it on purpose. Which makes no sense. Apple's a revenue-producing behemoth. Why sacrifice their reputation for quality on just this one product in order to earn what surely must be minor dollars to them. Note: Don't bother with the third party power adapters. They're even worse.

    Very fragile, poor quality

It's not 5 years I own MacBook pro and my second Power Adapter just broke. I am quite frustrated, these things cost 93 EUR here. After first one stopped working I was very careful with new one I bought, but still after only 2 years wires started popping out at the base of the cable and now it only works if I wiggle it around and keep it in certain position but it's obvious I will need new one in very short time.

As most other reviewers, I am very disappointed about quality of this item.

    Cord always Frays

Apple need to pay attention to the longevity of their cords. I had to buy a new cord only 1,5-2 years ago and this new cord is already starting to fray at the adaptor. Small things like this have made me consider getting a Windows laptop as my wife who is a windows user has never had this issue.

Frequent Cable Fraying Not Covered By AppleCare

Extremely frustrated with the very short life of these adaptors. We do not abuse them but, like all the others on this post, the cable frays prematurely where it connects to the charger brick rendering the whole thing useless.

I wish Apple would use a detachable cable like the iPhone and iPad so when the cable breaks you just replace a $2 cable rather than a $93 (with taxes) adaptor. I also wish this was covered under AppleCare.

The only explanation I could propose is that this is a revenue generator for Apple. $1000 computer. New $93 adaptor every couple of years.
