    Atypical

Unlike most Apple products, this one is absolute junk. It features a poor design and the small cord twists and breaks in just a short time. The replacement price? I could only laugh. I'm on my third one in as many years and am disgusted.

I am ordering my 3rd in 3 years!

Can't believe it's broken again! The worse product from Apple and it is too expensive.

I was forced to give this 1 star.

My first 85W MagSafe Adapter nearly lit me on fire and the replacement that I bought less than a year ago has also come to its demise... This. Is. Infuriating.

I sure hope the next macbook pro I get has a better power adapter

This is the 3rd power adapter I've had to buy for my Early 2011 17" MacBook Pro. The first one had a cable cracking near the block just after the stress relief. I quickly purchased another one so I would have a spare "just in case". Now the new one is going haywire near the magnetic connection where the light stays lit and flickers for a few minutes after being unplugged. Everything has been cleaned around the ports, so I'm buying another one "just in case". I'm going to be nursing this computer along until the next refresh comes out because I'd like the new trackpad and maybe the new usb port.

And for the record, I HATE the idea that I'm going to have to drop down to a 15" model. That 17" model was really the sweet spot for me.

    disastrous charger design

I am on perhaps my 8th charger of this type.
The expected time to failure is less than one year.
I am, unfortunately, buying another two of these chargers, since I am
    hostage to apple's monopoly.

It is inexcusable that a company which prides itself on design should
overlook an update to this product. Is there no longer a product
manager in charge of this product? Perhaps they have quit showing up to
work, given that all Apple seems to care about is phones and ipads.

    Depressing.

    Worst Charger Ever!

I have had to buy 4 new macbook pro 85w magsafe power cables for me and my wife's computers in JUST the past 18 months!!! It is completely unnacceptable to have to spend $320 on new power cables in that short of a time. I love Apple, but this is one of their worst products. Please change this, and give me new chargers for free.

    Power supply cord fails

How do all the the other companies manage to create power supplies with wires and connections that don't fray and break? Perhaps Apple favours shallow aesthetic design over real functionality.

    Terrible quality & expensive

Ditto to all other comments. What other company makes charging cords that fail. Apple is only one. And then charge astronomically price to replace... Going with Google or Microsoft when time for new laptop.

    2nd charger down

apple you can do a better product!! you ve put a removable part on one end of the power adaptater how hard would it be to do the same system on the other end where the cable is the weakest so we could just replace the broken part? Because not only the product is too fragile, soooo expensive, but it is frustrating and not ecological to trash a perfect working transformateur just because a basic electric cable is broken!!

with the new macbook pros you issued a new cable without taking in consideration all the bad reviews....

    ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

I have a MacBook Pro, I use an iPhone, I still have my old iPods - I generally support Apple products and am a loyal customer.

I got this particular laptop at the end of 2011. I have gone through 4 chargers. 4. I am about to purchase a 5th. That is 1 charger per year people, at $80/a pop.

Sometimes they just stop charging. Sometimes the cord starts to bend at a particular location and cannot be stopped. One time I let it go so far because I was trying to look for alternatives that some of the wires straight up burned through.

    UNACCEPTABLE APPLE!

    Ridiculously Expensive Rubbish!

I love using my MBP and it has been a real workhorse but I'm now on my 3rd power supply and it's getting expensive! The original failed due to an unseen 'kink'. The second simply went 'bang' after only 2 years of service and then went dead. So I've spent $270 on power supplies now & I'm not happy!! I use plenty of other devices in my house and have NEVER had an issue with any other transformers...oh, except for an iPad 10w Adapter (which also bit the dust after about 12 months).

    Poor build quality and materials

The cord begins to fall apart right after the strain relief, probably from all of the straining. Would expect better quality from Apple, or at least a replacement plan for a faulty design.

Disappointed i'm going to be purchasing one of these because i NEED to, got me good this time.

Its a shame that this product is made by company like Apple

This is the second one that is broken. You are selling adapters for the price of smaller tablets in market. Please be considerate. It is the failed design of this product that makes it so vulnerable.

    awful product

I agree with the other reviewers. We have had issues with power cables with multiple devices ranging from powerbook to ipads/iphones. the latest is this power adapter for our powerbook. Bent from normal use and doesnt charge, at least it hasn't actually split open like the 6s cable. $80 bucks is an obnoxious price for such a poor quality product.

One of the top 3 things I hate about apple

    Simply, why does this break?

I've never had any other power cords break?

My old Nintendo Entertainment system from 1986s power cord is still intact. Also, I bet if it broke, they'd replace it for me. But no, its our fault for being to rough with them.

Further, my 2008 white macbook had the same problem. It is now 2016 and I just spent 100 USD on a new one and nothing has changed.

Sorry, I guess I should've known that swinging the power cord at oncoming magpies isn't its intended use. But then why call it Magsafe?

    Apple, change your adapter!

The extremely low quality of Apple's adapters is truly unbelievable given how superior their devices are to any other device on the market. I have owned my Macbook Pro since August 2009. My first MagSafe adapter lasted about 5 years until it unexpectedly quit. It was a great adapter up until that point. It did not have any wear or tear; it just quit working. I purchased a new MagSafe adapter in May of 2014. A little over a year later, the new adapter started to fall apart. The cable yellowed and disintegrated near the magnetic end and slowly spread towards the adapter. I never travelled with this adapter; there was no opportunity for me to inflict this damage. My original adapter went everywhere with me while I was in college and did not sustain any damage. I work full time and have a work computer now, so this new adapter has only sat on my desk at home, yet it is already falling apart! I'm an avid Apple customer; I have also owned two iPhones, two iPods, and a Time Machine. This same issue occurred on multiple Apple iPhone charging cables as well. Apple may have a superior device, but if I must continue to dish out money to pay for the adapters/cables due to Apple's inability to increase quality, I may have to reconsider using an Apple device when I look for my next device in the upcoming months. I work in IT, where I see hundreds of Microsoft computers on a daily basis. The power adapters for these computers rarely ever fall apart, even after years of wear. It's time that Apple makes a change and increases their quality. The customers expect a quality charger for a quality device!

    Poor quality

For the third time, in spite of my properly wrapping the L-tip cable around the goalposts, the cable has separated from the neck at the transformer portion. It shorted out. Apple knows there's a defect, and replaced it once. When will they redesign out and replace them?

After 7 years with Apple, I'm ready to switch back to a PC...

    worst charger ever

I have been through 3 of these chargers over the past 4 years due to the wire leading to the computer fraying. This happens most often at next to the T joint.

    Just make it better

I just bought my 3rd charger because the other ones are broken. And as you know, they are FAR from free, or even fairly priced compared to what I get. I just want to let you know that this was, honestly, the last Apple product I will ever buy. It is not only because these ridiculously expensive chargers, which is constructed to break, even if I handle it as new born baby. I have an idea. What if Apple uses some of the $203+ billion you have just lying around in Braeburn Capital, and invest and develop a decent charger with a more robust cord? If the cable isn't meant to be slightly bent, don't make it a cable, make it as a solid pipe instead.
