    Great look poor quality

Looks great but I've had myne about 6 months and the bottom is cracked and the rubber is comming off at the top where it touches the plastic next to the headphone port. And it also scratches the stainless steel... But other than that it's a great case:)

Good to protect when out of its case

In my case, it proves to be sufficient as I also purchased a leather belt pouch from my wireless provider that also protects the phone when it's not in use.

    High Quality

this case is very slick, light weight, durable and stylish. unfortunately, i find the missing back gets irritating at times and leaves your phone exposed.

    Works for me!

I was looking for something that would help protect (but wouldn't completely hide) my iPhone4 and this bumber is perfect! I didn't give a full 5 stars for 2 reasons: 1.) $29.99 is way too much for this very simple piece of rubber and plastic and 2.) I wish they made it in gray because that would look so much better (than black) on my white iPhone. Note: I didn't want a white bumper becasue I know how dingy looking it would get over time.

The Truth about the Bumper, Nothing is New Forever

I've owned my iPhone 4 and decided on the Bumper at the same time. It was free due to the issue of the antenna not functioning properly, Apple was offering the Bumper or $30 credit for a case. Having been a iPhone 3G owner for 2 years before getting the 4, I had the protector screen and rubber/plastic case. it survived well but was bulky.
Now the advantage of the bumper, even though it does fall apart, I'm here to replace mine as the rubber has ripped around the power cord about 3-4 months ago and has now started shredding around all the sides and the phone no longer sits safely in the Bumper, again back to the advantage of the bumper, is that it maximizes the protection of the phone with the minimal of intrusion to working the phone. It's very light weight. Is raised rubber edges allow the phone to not come into direct contact with a surface. Because of the minimalist design, it feels like its how the phone should have been manufactured.
Come on people, the iPhone is a smartphone. It's a tool. It's what you carry with you like your wallet and keys. Do you ever look at how much wear and tear those items take - so expect your phone to take some punishment too, but it's also well constructed to take that abuse. The bumper protects the places it needs it the most...it's edges. Plain a simple. But the best part is, the Bumper leaves the phone as naked as possible so you can touch its sexy smooth screen and back that are incredibly scratch resistant.
Last of all, i decided long ago to test the screen by not using a protector and has survived well. I am conscious of generally not putting the phone in my pocket with keys, coins or other metal objects, but i don't baby the phone either.
Is the Bumper overpriced - Yes, but isn't everything that Apple sells - but we will still buy it - because it works the best.

good if you drop your phone a lot

I drop my phone constantly, i don't know why I can't help it. Normally I buy the big ugly cases to protect it but my white iPhone is way too pretty to cover up. I have probably dropped my phone 100 times with this case and it still works perfectly! No scratches on the screen or back. The case does scratch the metal sides a little, which I don't really mind because they are covered by the case anyway. Also, I have the green one and the rubber part tends to get dirty fast, so I'm going to buy the black one to see if that helps.

    1 year later

Would given a 5 if it didn't fall apart, would have given a 3 if it hadn't been free. I need another one, but $30, yeesh! I love the simplicity of it, the lack of bulk, the case doesn't detract much from the phone itself (since the "case" is also Apple). Despite it's seeming lack of coverage, it still protects well (until it falls apart), the rubber helps it stick on surfaces. Have had it for about a year now, the most crucial, and thus used, areas: the corners and the rubber on either side of the dock, have separated themselves from the rest of the bumper. Very annoying when flapping around below the home button, I ended up trimming the loose rubber. The bumper still stays on without this rubber, but it is not as well protected. The corners are the most critical, and just noticed yesterday that the are very tiny chips out of the glass on opposing corners on the back. Also, as I'm sure some people have mentioned, the metal does get scuffed, but I leave the bumper on all the time, so it isn't noticed.

    I love this case!!

I got my white iPhone 4 about a month ago, and wanted a case that has protection, but isn't too bulky like most cases out there. When I saw the apple bumper, I thought it was perfect. It protects the metal band around the sides, the buttons, and has a "grippy" edge so it doesn't slide too much. When I got my phone, AT&T also recommended I get a case for protection, but i wanted the bumper so I also got the ZAGG screen protectors, and together, the two make a perfect iPhone 4 case. I highly recommend this case if you want protection, but not too much 'bulk'.

    Does what it does

I got this case Aug 2010 as part of the free case program. Nothing fancy, but a regular, ordinary looking bumper. Also, I wasn't very concerned about the lack of back coverage, since I got the Power Support film set.

    PROS:
Despite making the iPhone look 'uglier', this bumper really does its job. I dropped my phone about 7x already and it's just fine. Mind you, the drops were only 2-3 ft drops, so I can't attest to whether the bumper can withstand higher drops, but seven times! There are numerous scratches on my bumper, especially at the corners because of the drops, but the phone itself is fine. Other reviews said the rubber part already started cracking and peeling after light use, but I've had this for a year and it's only started recently. I don't exactly take very good care of my phone or other electronics, so it's very surprising that my bumper has lasted this long while others (who do take care of their phones) complain the bumper isn't long-lasting.

    CONS:
This bumper isn't perfect, however, as dust does tend to accumulate near the edges, but since I have Power Support film set on, this isn't a big deal. Just make sure to take the bumper off to clean the phone from time to time. Now...the MAJOR defect of this bumper, like many reviews have stated, is that this bumper SCRATCHES THE PHONE! It didn't for the first few months of use, but now I see black smudges and marks that won't come off on the silver band of the phone. They're noticeable, especially around the ring/vibrate button, the power button, the volume buttons, and the charger jack and speakers on the bottom. It's very disappointing that the bumper would do this and I hope Apple will do something about it (not very likely though).

    RECOMMENDATION:
Based on my experience, yes I would recommend this bumper to iPhone users because it offers fairly heavy-duty protection for such a minimal case. If you're someone who drops their phone a lot, but don't want any scratches on their phone, then I suggest the Otterbox; but if you're someone (like me) who drops their phone and don't want a big fat ugly Otterbox case covering your phone, this is good enough. This bumper has lasted me a year and I'm ready to buy a new one--green this time!

    Lasted 12 Months

I bought a black bumper the day the iPhone 4 came out last year to protect my phone. It looks sleek and I've never had any issue with the phone. It's been on my phone for the entire year+. I very rarely remove the case. About a month a go, the rubber started to peel away from the case. It no longer looks attractive. However, I will probably buy one to replace it because it protects the phone, is thin, and looks better than any other case.

    Great ***TIP***

the bumper did exactly what i needed from it; an elevated surface keeping the front and back glasses raised, and a silicone casing for the frame. I haven't had any problems so far.

    Good design improvements

I just purchased a new black Bumper to replace the one I originally purchased with my iPhone 4 upon initial release and notice that Apple seems to have made some design improvements to the bumper at some point in the past year. The new bumper has a slightly different shape to the rubber portions--an angle from the face of the case to where the rubber meets the face of the iPhone (rather than the former continuous curve). This change appears to result is a more robust rubber piece that should wear well. Also, the cut-out for the docking port has been enlarged compared to the original Bumper. While I enjoyed the original Bumper--and haven't found a case I like better--this new one feels more durable.

I really like this bumper! Except for price!

Other than paying $30 for it I'm on board! Gets 4/5 stars because this should realistically only cost $20 at the most.
I'm not sure why some people are having problems with this bumper though, mine works great. It fits the phone snug, the buttons work great and is very sleek. Better access to controls than my wife's SPECK case. Other cases I looked at had the following problems-to bulky (Otter), buttons hard to operate (all), must remove case to dock phone etc..
I guess maybe this case could make it difficult to fit older docks made for the first or 2nd iPhone who knows, but be reasonable people!! It works great with any current accessory for the iPhone4 or 3GS. As for it disintegrating who knows, we'll see about that but I suspect this may be more of a condition of people who take the case off and on more often in order to use older iPhone accessories. Mine shows no signs of wear or looseness and that's more than I can say for some of the other gel type cases on the market that loosen up within weeks. This bumper is great for what it is designed to do, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

    My Honest Review

When I was first looking to get a case for my new Verizon iPhone, I was very skeptical about getting this case because of all the negative reviews and people saying it scratches the antenna band. That said, I have had this case (BLACK) since the Verizon iPhone came out in February and it hasn't yet once scratched my phone or fall apart. This keeps the phone looking good and its nice and slim. I admit, it's not the best of protecting the whole phone, but it does making the phone easier to hold and protects of from sliding on tables and scratching the bottom. Maybe since this is now a universal case for ATT and Verizon they adjusted some of the material or something, but mine works great and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to keep their iPhone looking like it was made to look like and not a big bulky case that takes away the design.

I only give this a 4 of 5 stars cause it doesn't protect the phone from the back, you would need a invisible shield or something, but I don't even have that and I don't have a scratch.

    Good But...

I really like the way that the black bumper makes the phone look sleek and stealth like. The details are very well executed, the matte rubber of the material on the top and bottom of the bumper transitions seamlessly into the gloss plastic of the outside of the bumper.

The details on the buttons are well executed, and suite the design of the iPhone percectly. The bumper keeps the top and bottom to the phone away from making direct contact from surfaces when laid flat.

The problem with the iPhone bumper is that if any pocket debris becomes lodged between the bumper and the metal 'don't hold it like that' antenna with its beautiful matte finish, the offending debris will deform the surface and make a shiny spot on the surface of the metal.

My solution is to affix pinstripe tape to the metal before installing the bumper.

Looks, feels great, scratches iPhone, short case life.

But I still gave it four stars. Why?

The good: It looks great. Beautiful Apple styling. The rubber feels great in your hand and is very grippy, saving me from dropping it many times. This case goes well with the iPhone 4 and the good generates most of the four stars.

The bad: The case has left a lot of little rubbing created scratches on my iPhone. Also, the case wore out in nine months. The rubber began to separate down near the dock connector and the case became loose fitting overall. I took my iPhone to the Genius Bar last week, and they seemed 'unconcerned' about the scratches on the iPhone, but they did replace my Bumper with a brand new one. 1 year warranty, take advantage. The Genius I talked to denied it was under warranty, but I pressed him to look at the warranty online, and a more senior Genius confirmed that it was under warranty.

They gave me the AT&T/Verizon version of the Bumper and it 'seems' to be made a bit better. The hole where the dock connector fits is Bigger, so more cables and accessories will fit. But I still expect it to scratch the iPhone.

Back to the good: Again, it looks great, feels Fantastic in your hand, and I believe the rubber edges have saved me from many drops. If you set it on a angled surface it will not slide off. You can lean it up against things on your desk and it will not slide. It's minimal, it's Apple, I still like it a lot.

It made me write a review

This is the first review I have EVER done on a product. I just bought this Friday night because I wanted something very slim, sleek, and simple. The only reason I didnt go 5 starts is because I cant turn the vibrate on/off with one hand, I had to sneak my finger in to do so.
This morning I pulled my jeans out from my gym bag and my wallet and phone went flying...I heard the phone hit the CONCRETE FLOOR and thought it was over. I picked my phone up and there was NO damage to it. The bumper paid for itself in less than 24hours.

    Works well for me

I have used a bumper since getting my iPhone 4 in July. I take it off occasionally to mount the iPhone in a TomTom Car Kit, but otherwise leave it on. I have not seen any scratches on the metal band on the iPhone at all, as some have reported. The bumper has the additional advantage, which I have not seen others mention, of making the iPhone easier to hold onto. I bought it right after buying the iPhone because the glass-and-metal phone seemed slippery and I was concerned about it sliding out of my hand as I typed.

The only issue is that some audio cables do not fit through the hole, as mentioned by many reviewers. I had that problem with one cable but easily solved it by filing down the plastic plug on the cable until it did fit. It only took a minute or two to do that and was not really a problem.

I just bought a second bumper for a change of pace (different color) and because the original bumper was getting a little scratched up by keys in my pocket, although it is still perfectly useable. Interesting that those keys have not scratched the exposed glass of the iPhone, front or rear, at all!

Not Bad, but it does the job

I like it. It's accented silver buttons are aesthetically pleasing and it fits perfectly on the phone. Now some headphones may not work properly with it since there is a recessed hole created due to the thickness of the case. It's not state of the art protection, but they sure charge that much for it. I was amongst the first to recieve the iPhone and I was fortunate enough to recieve a bumper free of charge from Apple during the free case promotion to eliminate the signal problem. That it did, (signal issues eliminated), and it protects the steel band from getting scratches. I can see it peeling if you stick it in your pocket with something sharp like keys. Think about it, it's flimsy rubber bonded directly to plastic, so it's not incredibly durable but I have been using one since September and I have yet to have any problems with it because I am careful with it. Now, I wouldn't pay $30.00 for it. That's just rediculous!

Pair one of these with an Invisible Shield for the back of the phone for about $15.00 and your phone is protected from scratches (since the front is already scratch proof!)
