    Poor, short lasting quality

It is a very stylish and practical bumper case until it gets loose and begins to rip off. In the first few months everything seemed to be OK. After a half year or so the rubber, silicone parts became rigid and began to tear apart. 9-10 months after the purchase the bumper case was unusable. In addition the Sleep button has been scratched from the bumper. As the rubber pieces were torn the other parts of the iPhone has been scratched as well. Its price does not reflect the quality. I would not buy again this item, although I am satisfied with the Apple products in general.

Plastic crack failure after a year

I bought the bumper so it would not be so slippery in my old hands nor on smooth surfaces. It does that perfectly and looked good as well. However, it has now failed after a year with the plastic cracking by the switch cut-out above the volume buttons. I would replace it except that I feel it is overpriced. If it were $10, I could see replacing it every year. I have not experienced any other issues that people have posted. My iPhone is kept in a pocket not shared with anything else—not even a tissue.

I cannot recommend the Apple bumper. I have had two, one for a 4 and one for a 4S. Both were purchased at the Apple store, and both lasted about one year. At about 10 months, the softer rubber around the front edges begins to peel away in thin strips, and the hard plastic frames on both bumpers I owned cracked all the way through on one side of the charging port. I had virtually the same experiences with both bumpers, and that is what compelled me to write this review. I am a 53 year old female, and my phones get very little wear. My phone sits on my desk all day, is in a designated pocket in my purse when I am running errands, and is on my nightstand to charge in the evenings. I charge my phone with the bumper on, so the bumpers were not removed daily to charge my phones. For $30, I consider the Apple bumper to be a poor value considering they begin to deteriorate in well less than a year.

    The demise of quality control.

I was happy with the first one of these I got a year or more ago, aside from the tiny headphone jack opening. When the rubber disintegrated after being pulled off and on too many times to get access to the headphone jack, I got a replacement at the Apple store; it was a tiny fraction of an inch too short, and depressed the sleep button. I returned it to the same store and got a new one and it has the same problem. So now my phone is constantly trying to turn itself off. Looks like someone at Foxconn didn't get the metric/SAE conversion right.

    Wears out far too quickly

I expected this bumper to work well as a simple case -- protecting from simple drops and scratches-- and it has done that. However, the rubber has deteriorated rather quickly (after just a few months into the hopefully 2 year life of my phone) and it not longer grips the sides evenly. For $5, I would buy every few months, but for $30 it simply isn't worth it.

    Too tight

This thing is great in some ways, but has a couple flaws too.

I like it because it's gigantic like those nerdy Otter Box things that make the phone huge and impossible to get out of your pocket. It's the next best thing to keeping your phone naked.

The thing that's annoying is that it's so tight against the phone that it's constantly pressing the on/off button at the top and trying to shut the phone off.

I've had three of them, and have to say that it's very over priced, too. I mean it's a pretty cheaply made item that should not cost $29.

Hopefully Apple drops the price and actually creates one of these for iphone 5.

    Turns off my iPhone

I bought the black bumper and it turns off my iPhone because it keeps pressing the sleep/awake button. If I'm typing a or doing anything it locks or goes to the turnoff screen.

That is why I'm giving this product 2 stars. I had a previous one months ago and it worked perfectly but this one simply doesn't.

BEWARE! Top Bumper Lock Button Flaw

I bought this bumper for my iPhone 4S, and I started noticing that the top bumper lock button was pressing my iphone lock button randomly...it seems that perhaps some bumpers come out with a sort of snug fit that makes the button press down on the iphone button. I was ignoring this small annoyance but not until it terminated my calls by mistakenly pressing the button. This was a dealbreaker! Now, I don't know if some batches of bumpers come out with some variance in fit but I looked closed and it seems that the top bumper button needs a bit more offset between the button itself and the iphone lock button. I was going to take it back to the apple store but I was playing around too much with it that I ended up breaking the bumper :/ Too bad! I f you buy it at the Apple Store, make sure to try it on before you walk out! This bumper has an awesome concept but now Ill have to just find something else...don't really feel like buying another one. OH! Also, the bottom connector port hole that the bumper has isn't too large so some cable connectors might not fit!

    Short life

Although it looks and works great at first, I cannot recommend this at all. The bottom half split in half and it's now worthless after only a few months. For the price and given that it is Apple's own accessory, the bumper is very poor quality.

I LOVED it for the first 3 months until the rubber on top ripped. Didn't last very long.. Like I said only 3 months.

    iphone bumper worth $29.99

So to keep it simple and short I just had my iPhone 4s replace for the *2nd* time just two days ago. A brand new phone. I had suspected that my other phone replacement was not really a new one but a refurbished one because I had software issues with it pretty much 2 weeks later (without it being dropped). So my BRAND new phone, with a brand new sturdy bumper dropped about...four feet onto a paved sidewalk. The phone landed completely flat without anything touching it like a rock or stick and when I picked up my phone the entire back side was completely shattered. I mean...it looks like I abused my phone and took one of my 3" heels and stomped on it. Although it's entirely my fault, I could not believe that it was shattered on such a small drop and with a brand new bumper AND phone. So, I don't know what to say about the guard because I used to like it and now I am not so sure I do. It's up to you but $30 is not *that* cheap guys.

    Ripped of $60

I bought a black bumper and a pink one, my black bumper got ripped apart, and the pink one got dirty within 3 days. I always take care of my iPhone but these bumpers seem like a waste of money

Rubber splits and breaks. Does not always protect well.

This bumper has rubber that splits and breaks over time from just removing to clean and putting it back on. It does not protect it from the average drop all the time. It is a 50/50 chance hoping that the phone lands completely face down or up so there are no new scuffs. This is not an Apple quality product and they have dropped the ball.

    Scratches :-(

I've tried this bumper for some months ago. This bumper is very nice-looking and it protected my iPhone from breaking a lots of times, but sadly it scratched the steel sides on my iPhone. It also made my buttons stuck, luckily apple gave my a new iPhone. I wouldn't recommend this to other iPhone users!

I'm still looking for a good one, can anyone recommend?

    Not durable for the money

I've had a bumper on my iPhone 4 since the day I got it (early July 2010), and they're not very durable. I replaced my first one a while back when the rubber started ripping and that made the whole bumper loose. Now, a few months later and the second one is doing the same. I like the minimal profile with good protection (it's saved my iPhone a couple times!) but it's not very much material for $30, so I'd at least expect it to be high quality, durable material.

    Iphone Bumber

It does the job it says it does but breaks quiet easily. It will also mute the phone when you put it on if you dont be careful

    Nice but they don't last

I have had to replace them 3 times this year. The silicon starts to crack, as the poster below states. And at $29 each these are not cheap? They should last more than 4 months. I hardly ever remove the phone from the bumbper... just normal use.

Other than that, they are nice and fit the Iphone 4 well.

I got this phone for free when the iPhone 4 was released with reception problems, so I can't say I lost money. BUT, I would never buy it. It stretched out super quick even though I didn't take it on/off. it scratched up the silver sides of my iPhone so quick!

    rubber lips deteriorate rapidly

Bumper is glossy plastic band surrounding phone edge, and soft rubber "lips" front and back to hold bumper in place on phone. After four months use, carrying phone in pants pocket, rubber lips are breaking up and separating from bumper. For $29.00, I would feel a reasonable life expectancy for this product should be on the order of two years. $29.00 should allow for both a high quality plastic bumper/rubber lips AND plenty of profit. Seems in this case, Apple is going for mostly profit. Not covering the back glass makes this bumper less bulky (Like), but the covers with continuous bumper and back cover seem to hold up much longer, providing more protection with slightly more bulk, and, in most stores, a lower price.
