    Look nice but no dice

Listen to me very closely do not buy this case. I got it for free from apple to prevent the death grip. I got the 32 gig. I wanted to protect it and at the same time have something stylish. Who knows the phone better than apple? Answer: apple. I put the bumper on my phone and it looked very nice and stylish. Just what I wanted. Well the nightmare started 7 months later when I removed the bumper. My phone was ruined the whole stainless steel antenna had some type of scratches or imperfection it didn't look pretty at all. I called apple they scheduled me an appointment with genius bar. On Mac forum it states that apple will replace the unit. I am crossing my fingers. My wife and I both got the phones at the same time. Her phone looks just like new. She was smart. She got the bumper but never put it on. The bumper should be removed from the shelves. Don't buy it. You will be sorry. Don't take it even if it's for FREE!!!

    Not really a point

First of all, the bumper doesn't protect the front or back glass, but it's not really advertised to do that, so no big deal. It does help if you drop it, since it will land on the bumper and not the edge of the phone.

That said, the the only part it does cover is the metal around the sides, but the bumper itself scratches the metal. Dust gets in there and makes rub marks on your metal rim due to the bumper after just a few months. So basically, the case doesn't protect the glass, and damages the only part of the phone that it covers.

Finally, after about four months, the rubber on the bottom below the home button has split and is slowly peeling away from the plastic inner part of the bumper, so this thing is not incredibly durable.

Why this 3 cent piece of rubber and plastic costs $29 is a mystery, as is what value it truly serves.

    They break within months

I've had my iPhone 4 for a year and went thru 3 of these. They all rip apart after a few months. Google it - everyone has same issue. They are annoying enou that the docking hole isn't big enough for most chargers - but I can deal with that, what I can't deal with is a $30 product (I paid for the last 2) lasting 3 months

    Very bad case

I first loved the case, but the rubber tears away after only a few months of casual use.

Apple sent me a second one, thinking it was a fabrication default, but the second one had the exact problem.

Trust me, at this price, buy something else. VERY disapointed.

    Falling apart after 2 months

$30 is overpriced for this, but its the best looking case, so I paid the premium. I bought it back in May and the bottom of it is already cracking around the port on the bottom. I only ever plug it in with the USB cable, so its not like the bottom port is getting a lot of stress. Its barely hanging on by the thin rubber lining and I figure it will only last for another week or two before it completely comes apart.

Also, realize that the hole is so small for the headphone jack that you cannot use anything besides the standard apple earbuds. I had to buy some jumper cables off Amazon to be able to plug it into my home stereo and aux port in my car.

The employee at the Apple store told me that they have had a ton of issues with durability with these when I bought it (should have listened I guess!), so I think I will go back to the store and show him how its failing and maybe I can get a replacement or refund.

    Terrible durability

Protects the phone VERY well, but considering the £25/$29 price, the case is not worth it AT ALL. It loses shape and the rubber tears away after only a few months of casual use. WOULD LOVE A REFUND.

They charge $30 to damage your phone

This case is cheaply made and will scratch your stainless bezel, for the price of $30.

Does not fit Verizon iPhone 4.

I just purchased this case yesterday and had to return it before I left the store. It does not fit the Verizon version of the phone. The silence switch is like and 1/8th of an inch lower on the verizon phone compared to the at&t phone.

but just a few days back when i took off the case, i saw that it has made some round spots on the aluminum area (silver area) ! god knows why !
not a single day have i used the phone with the bumper or in some other case !

We buy a case from apple itself, and then also issues like this ?

iPhone 4 Bumper Does More Damage Than Without

This bumper will eventually make your phone look like you took a grinder to the brushed steel antenna. This has also happened to many other owners that I know. Also, it provides little protection to the rest of the phone. I recommend staying away from this product. You're iPhone 4 will be better off without a case.

    Protects the iPhone????

Having paid £510 for my phone, i thought i may as well splash out to ensure it was protected. I bought front and back protectors along with the Bumper. Great! My phone is now 100% protected. WRONG! I took off the bumper after 1 weeks use and noticed scratches all over the metal band. It would have had less scratches if I did not use it.

    Will Scratch Your iPhone

I went without a case on my first iPhone 4 for almost a year and managed to avoid scratching it. I had to return it to the Apple store because the camera flash was failing on it. I thought maybe going unprotected gave it too many jolts and bumps so I decided to use the bumper case on my new replacement iPhone. I took the bumper off recently and examined my iPhone to find that the rough plastic edges on the inside of the bumper had scratched the metal on the frame of my iPhone in three or four areas. I would have been better off with no case. If you choose to use the bumper, avoid taking it on and off on a regular basis as this increases the chances your phone will get scratched by the case.

    bad product

For $30 the bumper looks awesome at first and does the job . I've had mine since august and it fell apart on me . the soft rubber falls off in pieces over time and eventually it won't stay on the phone . I'm glad they reimbursed me for the money but I was under the impression that they can make a product that lasts longer than 4 months .

I liked the case a lot, until it broke

The case feels good. I liked having the back of my phone exposed, because I don't like hiding the nice mirrored back. To be honest, I still have no scrathes back there. I liked the way the bumper felt in my hand, I liked the rubber molding because it gives a nice good grip. However, after about 2 months, the rubber started getting soft - I did have to take it off here and there because of the size of the port holes - and then the bottom split open.

$30 for 3 months of use? I'm glad I got it for free. I don't know if there is a warranty if you paid for it, but there defintiely isn't if you got it as part of their free bumper program.

Maybe it needs to be made of a stronger plastic.

    Terrible quality

I have every single color except the orange one. I use mostly the black one and it looks terrible they stretch out and fall apart. I would definitely not recommend this to anyone. I expect better quality from apple and especially for $29.

Yes, it does destroy the steel band...

I thought the Bumper was a great little protector for the iPhone 4 when used with a good screen and back protector, but boy was I wrong. First problem was the 2 foot drop that completely shattered the back of my iP4 - but those stories are a dime a dozen nowadays. The biggest problem I found with the Bumper is that it will scratch the steel antenna band of your iPhone 4 like nobody's business. And no, these scratches do not just 'rub off,' they are permanent. So, drop protection? Fail. Surface protection? Fail. The Bumper serves no point other than to help with the antenna problem - that's it. There are plenty of other cases that will do the same, while still providing better (reads: any) drop and surface protection. Bad news for Apple here is this: I, like several others rely on the resale value of my iPhone to 're-up' for the new model, year after year... This can't be good for business from Apple's perspective. And yes, before you throw stones, I PAID for my Bumper and used the free case program for the better case I'm using now.

    Will scratch your antenna!

But for the fatal flaw that this case will scratch the very part of your iPhone that it is meant to protect, this is a very good case.

All was good until I removed the case to clean my phone and I discovered that underneath the case, where the bumper case makes contact with the iPhone, especially around the corners and along the top surface (where the headphones port and power button sit) and the bottom surface (where the connector cable is plugged in), it was scuffed with several stress marks evidently made by the rough hard plastic on the inside of the case.

    Buy at your own risk.

    Not durable

I've had this nicely designed low-profile case for 6 weeks. I like how it fits the phone and is easy to use with the buttons and cable outlets.

However, it cracked at the bottom where the power outlet plugs in. Not really worth 30 bucks if it lasts 6 weeks.

Not sure what I'll do from here.
