    Bad Case

    • Written by from Coraopolis

I got this case in pink and it gets so dirty so fast. It does not protect the back part at all which is what I see getting marked also. I would recommend getting a case that slides in and out like a pocket to protect it if you plan to carry it in a bag because it gets scratched easily. The case does NOT clean the screen as well as it claims to.

    Horrible for 3rd generation iPad

    • Written by from PORT ISABEL

I bought my iPad smart cover (product red) when I purchased my iPad 2, and it was a wonderful thing, I was completely in love with it, it worked amazing, but when I decided to upgrade to the 3rd generation iPad, it's been a nightmare the cover somehow does not stay on like it did with the iPad 2, any little movement it comes of, specially trying to move it when watching a movie, I have dropped my iPad due to this, I guess the magnets are not as strong as before or maybe it does not make contact as it did before, so I would not recommend this case for the new iPad, because you will have problems with it, as I did!

Terrible product that is not worth the price at all

Don't waste your money on this cover. It falls off too easily which is very frustrating. I wish I could get a refund so I can purchase a much better made cover.

    Poorly manufactured

    • Written by from Engadine

I purchased the smart cover for my ipad, less then 4 months ago and since then I have been significantly disappointed. I take my ipad to and from uni every day and through the day to day use, the parts have started to peel away, exposing the plastic panels in the centre. Like anything once it startes to peel of it doesn't stop. I continue to use it, only because it protects the front of my ipad. I paid $45 for it and wouldn't be complaining if i paid what it was worth, which is $10. I took pictures of it for futre reference, but if you are thinking about purchasing it. Think about how it might only last a few weeks until the edges start to peel. I' sorry that i have to make this complaint but felt that it was needed.

Only protects the FRONT of the iPAD, not the BACK!

    • Written by from MADISON

Placing any cover on a beautifully designed product such as the iPad or iPhone is not my favorite thing to do but it is required in order to maintain pristine condition. The day I purchased my iPad online, I quickly added this cover but I failed to study this cover in detail.
While this cover is a decent product it does absolutely nothing to protect the back of the iPad. The Apple cover for my iPad 1, while simple, protected the entire iPad 1 front and back.
I consider this "new" cover a wasted effort and wasted money. I wanted a cover that protects the entire iPad! This cover fails to perform such a simple task.

Great for ipad2 bad for ipad3

    • Written by from Sherbrooke

Got an iPad 3 and discovered that the magnets of the smart cover are not strong enough for the extra weight of the iPad 3. The cover is perfect for the iPad 2 where i've been using it for a year.

Dont pay for the smart cover-defective

    • Written by from anaheim

Wouldnt give this any stars if site would allow it.This cover is very misleading,it is not a "perfect fit"as it advertises in the description. The magnetic strip is very weak and flimsy. While using my camera function with the cover still on, folded over, the magnet broke free and I tried to grab the iPad and the cover slipped and my iPad hit the ground. Cost me 249.00 to replay the shattered front glass. So far no response from apple in regards to my complaint so use caution with this product.

Ruined My iPad, And my wood floor!

    • Written by from Skelmersdale

This cover as awful, cheaply made and is no different to any other cover other than it folds and stands up your iPad, Sort of!
I've had my iPad and smart cover for two months and over time I've noticed the magnet in my smart cover get weaker and weaker until this morning when I put it on my desktop in the movie/facetime position (which you can see above in the product description), anyway I put it down gently and made sure the smart cover was secure and the magnet slipped off! Next thing i knew my iPad was on the floor covered in dents and scratches, even my wood floor was dented! So because of this cheap, Diabolical cover my iPad is ruined and my wood floor has a huge dent in it! So if I was you I would pass and buy a cheaper alternative. I'm currently awaiting a response from Apple customer services as to what they are going to do about the damage caused to my iPad due to this failure of a cover. I thought I paid extra money for this thing to protect my iPad not to damage it! I wish I could Rate this thing Zero stars but I can't!

    Badly designed product

    • Written by from Timperley

After less than 8 months of use I'm scrapping my Smart Cover because the hinges have damaged the back of my iPad and the magnetic attachment seems to be weaker then when I first got it.
Opening and closing the case has caused the hinge blocks to scratch the iPad back so there's now shiny metal on the hinge blocks and on my iPad. This can only be due to bad design which, for a company like Apple which trades on its reputation for cool, well designed but expensive kit, is reprehensible.
With the cover in place you have to use it as a handle (because the iPad is so smooth there's nothing else to grip and you can't add anything more to act as a handle) so those reviewers who insist that's not what it should be used for, and rudely question the intelligence of people who do, must have found some other way of holding it and should enlighten us with some constructive comments. So, the magnetic coupling apparently having got weaker over the few months I've used it means that the cover inconveniently detaches from time to time, more frequently as time goes by. I'm careful with it now, so I haven't damaged my iPad, but to me it's another indicator of the poor design of this product.
Unsurprisingly, I recommend you don't buy this product.

    Doesn't work as advertised

    • Written by from Ann Arbor

I had my first iPad for 3 months and had problems with the cover almost from day one. The magnetic hinges were always coming unattached and scratching my ipad. I also didn't like the angles it would prop it up, it never seemed a very good angle for me, plus once I would get it to a good angle it would proceed to fall out of that position quickly. The last straw was when I was folding the cover over, the hinges came off the iPad and I somehow managed to drop my iPad smashing the screen to bits (but the cover was still safe in my hands). I went back to Apple and got a replacement, for a fee, but that same day I also went on-line and found the most sturdy case I could find. It's been over a year now and I've had no problems with my non-Apple case.

Snaps off too easily, metal hinges scratch laptop if used in same sleeve

    • Written by from Chandler

The idea is awesome: light weight and multiple angles. Unfortunately I find that with my Retina iPad the cover simply doesn't stay on well enough. It's constantly snapping off and causes me to fumble the iPad.

Additionally, I can't put it in my laptop sleeve because the hinges scratch it.

    not too happy

    • Written by from Mississauga

i bought this because of the bulk of my griffin intellicase..bad decision

just 2 days of use later the back is filled with scratches..i have to carry it around like a delicate piece of equipment, even when handling the case, the magnets aren't strong enough to hold while watching movies. for the price its NOT worth it.

yeah the no bulk is a great factor and the suede cleans the screen but if you already have a screen protector the suede does nothing and even if you don't, all you'll get is dust on the screen which the suede will help in comparison to a regular magnetic on/off case.

i am a 100% apple customer, own everything by them and love everything, but this was a disappoinment

    Very poor quality

    • Written by from Sachse

I was quite disappointed in the build quality of this case. I returned it the day I got it. The form and fit is not snug, and feels very cheaply made.

The smart cover portion does not line up flush ontop, and I had constant problems with sleep and wake functionality. There are tons of third party covers that do the job better.

I highly recommend you look and feel in a store before buying.

I am still baffled that Apple thought this case was quality they would put their name on...

    Looks cool, barely works

    • Written by from Parsippany

The purpose of a protective cover is to protect, but this barely fits the bill. Apple is famous for it's impeccable design and engineering, but this time they focussed too much on form and not enough on function.

The cover is held to the iPad with magnets, so when any sort of weight is applied, say that of an iPad, it separates from that which it is supposed to protect. This means that if you accidentally grab it only by the cover, your iPad will go crashing to the ground (and in my case, the screen shattered).

Also, because it uses strong magnets, don't put it in the same bag as your wallet if you don't want to wipe your credit cards, and don't put it next to any portable hard drives either, unless you are trying to erase them. The old Apple iPad cover they made for the 1st generation was much better, even if it was a bit uglier. At least it worked.

    Smart cover? Dumb cover.

    • Written by from Redlands

This was a waste of money. The magnet is weak. Stand function is weak. Protection is far from sufficient. Definitely not a good option if kids will be using it. I upgraded from the original iPad and case and there weren't many Apple-recommended options. Throwing this one away and buying a 3rd party case.

Only Apple "Cases" for iPad Nu?

    • Written by from Washington

Noticed that the store only sells Apple folding covers. The folding covers don't protect the back which gets really scratched up. Going to go looking at other stores for all peripherals because it is easer to just order all together

    Sleek garbage

    • Written by from RICHARDSON

It was completely useless, offered no protection, did not stand firmly, kept dropping off. I had to constantly worry about not knocking it down while using the iPad. If you're buying it for the cool factor remember that it won't look very cool when it hardly stays on. This is not a practical choice by any standards.

    Practically useless

    • Written by from Rohnert Park

I find this cover keeps disconnecting from my iPad 3 whenever I attempt to use it as a stand in either of the positions displayed in the demo video. It also disconnects easily if I just fold it behind the iPad. It's only redeeming quality is that it protects the display when I transport my iPad in a pack. There are many better and cheaper options to use. Yes I've connected it correctly to my iPad.
