Apple is constantly looking to improve the quality of their products. The Smart Case is the perfect place to begin! This thing cost $50....If the price was $25, I'd give it 4 stars. Does nothing other than hold and cover your iPad.

Its great if you never take it off and try it again.

    • Written by from San Antonio

love the case brand new. it fit the ipad well and snugly. however i removed it once and when i tried it again it had stretched to the point that the spine would allow the side of the ipad to come out of the case whenever the flap was folded back and i was holding it in my left hand portrait-wise it was in no danger of coming out but this was annoying as a case should fit better and retain its shape. after a bit of use the flap stared becoming crooked. do love the magnet but not happy overall.

    Good but not worth 50

    • Written by from Zion

The product itself is good, however the material that its made with is not worth $50. If you want something that feels expensive look elsewhere.

Good Case - Still Room for Improvement

    • Written by from Castle Rock

This is a good one-piece case that does a very good job protecting both the front and back of the iPad and it is aesthetically pleasing like all other Apple products. It also does a good job of keeping dust and other particulates from getting to the back surface of the iPad. So far it is a five star product...

However, I have two complaints worth one rating star apiece.

(Before I provide details regarding my complaints, I would like to suggest to Apple designers that any future iPad Smart Case product should include more rigid construction for the part of the case that protects that back side of the iPad.)

Due to the flimsiness of the back side protection part of the case, two problems are introduced: the iPad fits inside of the case too loosely which in turn causes problems with the use of the headphone jack on top and with connections to the dock/cable connector on the bottom. Those two problems make plugging the iPad in to charge it, manage media or back it up a challenge when the iPad is left in the case as the opening for the connector does not line up very well with the connector (I do not sync nor back up my iPad using WiFi) - I usually have to move the case around to get a solid connection. Additionally, unless you are using the Apple ear buds, a secure connection for your headphones is not guaranteed because the case gets in the way of the headphone jack at the bottom of the opening for it. I use Bose QC15 headphones and their connection in the headphone jack is not complete. The audio quality and using the mic on my headphone cord with such an incomplete connection are still fine.

Regardless of the fact that I can manipulate the case to get the power/data cable connection to work, and the headphone connection works while not being complete, Apple should have made the back cover of the case more rigid so as to make sure that the openings for the connector and headphone jack are always properly aligned and so that more than just the Apple ear buds can connect completely to the headphone jack.

In the end, I ended up giving this case to my dad as a random gift and went with a Moshi iGlaze XT, Moshi iVisor AT and Apple iPad Smart Cover combination for my own iPad to make sure it was protected all around and still looked good.

The iPad Smart case offers excellent all-around protection, but there are a few faults. Primarily, it is not a tight fit around an iPad, so the iPad jiggles around a bit as you walk. Secondly, the front portion does not stick as well as on a regular smart cover. Thirdly, the vertical stand function frequently falls over. But when you drop it, you forget about the little foibles, because it offers excellent protection.

    Decent quality, poor fit

    • Written by from New York

Pros: thin and light. Protects screen and probably provides some protection from impact if dropped.

Cons: fits very poorly - way too loose - holding with one hand essentially pulls the cover off. Magnets won't hold the cover flapped back behind screen when open (not a surprise as smart cover won't either)

    The good and the bad

    • Written by from Agia Paraskevi

Bought the case in Sept 2012 to protect the ipad2 from my 3 children. First of all does good in a fall, the ipad corners were protected. Bad news that in Feb2013 it started to become unglued. By April of this year three sides have completely come undone. The device could not sit in the case, just slipping and sliding about. The thing that upsets me the most is for the price tag, i expected something a little more durable. Now maybe i got a bad batch, or maybe that what happens to it after time. I will be looking for a more durable case.

    Decent protection, poor quality/design

    • Written by from Wayne

I got this case last week for my iPad and I am pretty disappointed. It is definitely not Apple quality. It does a good job at protecting the iPad, but my iPad (3rd gen) is fairly loose in the case, I'm sure a 2nd gen will be even looser. Also, when the cover is folded back the "hinge" doesn't do a great job of propping the iPad up at a decent angle. For $50 and Apple's name on it I expect much better quality. I got it as a gift so I won't be returning it, but I would look somewhere else for a better quality (and cheaper) case.

Protects front and back of iPad
    Cover is magnetic
Fits 2nd and 3rd gen iPad

    Loose fitting
    Hinge is poorly designed
    Not Apple quality

    Hinge is terrible

    • Written by from Oshkosh

The hinge on the left side of the iPad 4 where the cover connects with the case does not stay firmly seated thus exposing the aluminum edge of the iPad and constantly requires readjustment when cover is flipped back behind iPad. I miss the original iPad 1 case which in my opinion was a superior design albeit its propensity to show dirt.

A simple case (iPad 2 owner)

    • Written by from SIKESTON

It is what it is: A simple case. If you are looking for pen holders, paper sleeves, durable padding, or multi-adjusting stands then this case is definitely not for you.
If you want an elegant, slim, nice feeling case that comes in a variety of colors; and you are not concerned with padded protection, because like myself, you believe that dropping this device no matter what case it is in would be BAD... Then this case might be for you!
My iPad 2 fits nice in the case. I can see by prying the edges that the case was made for a slightly bigger device, BUT if you don't pry and fumble with it you probably wouldn't notice. The iPad 2 fits snug even when facing it upside down & shaking it.
I like this case, with one exception. The rim of the case is seemingly sharp. I said seemingly, it wont cut you (I was weird enough to try), but sometimes it feels like it might. I am confused why Apple made it this way since they are usually looking for perfection in their products , but it is. And because of the edges it can sometimes feel uncomfortable to hold in spite of all the nice soft textures of the case.
If the edges were not an issue I would give this case 5 stars for what it is. I feel the edges are an issue because the sharp sensation sometimes distracts me while using it. So, though I recommend this product because of paragraph 2, I still give it a 3 as a warning to those with sensitive hands.

doesn't fit right, but doesn't fall off

it's about 1/8" too loose along the edges. It's better than the magnetic one, which falls off pretty easily.

    iPad Smart Case

    • Written by from Newport

This case is fair. Not a snug fit and looks like the iPad could fall out of this if not careful. Rigid edges uncomfortable if held from sides and forced to hold in open hand on bottom. I expected better from Apple especially considering the price.

    Breakable material

Liked the smart cover but after only 18 months two corners of the underside have broken off. The cover has been used only in my home and not mishandled. For the price I would have expected it to wear better.

    Not the Expected Apple Quality

    • Written by from Cupertino

I bought a light gray smart case for my new ipad and was very pleased with the protection it offered. I noticed that the entire cover was getting dirty very fast and started to leave markings on the screen. This case has been used slightly heavily and just started falling apart after about 5-6 months of use. Not the quality I expected considering the price. I had to order a new one because this indeed protects the ipad, as mine looks like new. This time I'm going to go with a dark gray one. I just wish they would do something about the quality of the case.

    Great case while it lasted

    • Written by from Mount Pearl

Loved my smart case until it fell apart. Received my iPad and a smart case for Christmas 2 years ago. Case came engraved with a message from my wife so it has sentimental value. This case was good as it generally performed as advertised and did not add any bulk or weight to the iPad, however the glue holding it together has completely failed and the case has completely come apart at the seams on two sides.

Liked this case. I bought it in red, but it started to come apart after a year. Now my iPad slips through the bottom. Really upset about that.

    Loved this Case, but....

    • Written by from Philadelphia

I bought the case almost exactly a year ago. It fit perfectly, and was very convenient for carrying the iPad to work and using it in meetings. Unfortunately, after one year of normal use, the case has fallen apart. The frame has torn away from the body of the case and consequently, the iPad slips out. This is not an inexpensive case, so I had hoped to use it for more than a year. I haven't decided whether to buy another one or try something else. If you decide to purchase this case, just be careful with it.

    Didn't last

    • Written by from Cornwall

I have had a Smart Cover in Apple Red for two years, and it started coming apart on the side about 6 months ago. I glued it back together and it lasted for a while, but now has come apart on both sides, and the iPad is loose. I had it personalized, so am upset that I paid 50$ for a case that I will no longer be able to use. Up to the point of it falling apart, I liked the feel of it and the fact that you can just close it to close your iPad. I never did like the folding stand, found it to be tippy, and it is hard to keep clean. I think if it wasn't so expensive I would purchase another one, as it protects well from scratches and drops. I feel that a product with the apple logo should last longer than a year and a half.

    fell apart

    • Written by from Ajax

I have had this case and it worked wonderfully. it has had a lot of use, but the bottom is coming apart on the seams I was taking a photo and the ipad slipped out of out of the bottom!! all was okay, but could have been a disaster. tried to adhere it back together but now the case is misaligned and doesn't always close properly. looking for something to replace it, but havnt made a final decision as yet. my friend found a case that works perfectly from the dollar store!! I really don't think those cases with an Apple Logo should cost as much as they do!!

    Needs improvement

    • Written by from New Orleans

It was pretty nice upgrade from the Smart Cover and it works well for protecting the iPad. It also feels nice and smooth and just feels good in your hands. The problems with the case...I have several. The case is coming apart from the seams, although I have had it for about 2years and it is a year past warranty. It doesn't fit into the stand charger I bought from apple, and so the cover has to be removed for charging on this device. In my opinion, Apple products should fit and work together. The biggest problem with the case is the following: when using the case as a stand, the iPad easily tips over. It cannot be used this way as intended, and that was happening from day one, so not a wear and tear issue. My iPad tips over at the slightest touch and this is one of the reasons I bought this smart case.
