Fraying at magsafe2 brick connection. Normal use

I own several macbook pros and other devices. The magsafe2 is the worst they have produced. Fraying and shorting out constantly. I have 4 other magsafe 1 connectors i use daily along with this one and are years older. My only option is to buy a new one?
Apparently there was a recall on them but never got a notice about it- now the recall is over.

    Poor design, poor quality

I really like the MacBook Pro, but this MagSafe 2 charger needs a replacement program. I've owned the MacBook for less than a year and already went through two chargers. It is poorly designed and is not durable. It disconnects too easily. It overheats while charging, which may be another reason it has such a high failure rate. I hope Apple will introduce a MagSafe 3 design that replaces this product and offer it to customers that had a bad experience.

    Worst experience with power cord

This is my first MBPR, took great care of everything for this laptop. The power cord started malfunctioning intermittently after about a year, then stopped working completely. In Canada it's now priced to $105, what a ripoff!

    Apple fix this fragile adapter!

Terrible design/construction. The weak cable broke and does not work anymore, after very careful use. Replacement cost is also extortionate. Shame on you Apple.

A frustrating poorly designed money trap.

I am a huge apple fan. However, this charger is a complete outrage. Not only is it extremely over-priced, but it breaks within the year. I have no issue spending money on a great product. This is why I decided to buy a macbook retina. Unfortunately I have bought two of these chargers in the last two and a half years. They break consistently in the same two places over and over again. Apple has made no changes on the charger. I am paying my way through college and $80 is a lot of money to me. To be honest, I am disappointed to the point to tears. I need a charger to use my computer (As a graphic Design major using library computers is not an option) and I don't have enough money to buy one right now. So, I'm screwed. Thanks apple. You guys make great phones and computers but your charger is killing me. I'm upset, disgruntled, disappointed, and I'm not going to lie a little angry. Unless you're willing to spend 80 dollars once a year for a brand new charger I suggest... oh wait. Nothing. If you want a macbook retina you have to spend money you don't have on a charger that's going to break in 12 months. One star is being generous.

    Amazingly disappointed

I've owned my MPB Retina for two years. It's a phenomenal machine. As a matter of fact, I would say that it is the fastest, most reliable MBP I've ever owned (I've owned about 10 different Apple laptops over the years). However this power adapter is a joke. I just went through my second, and I am headed to the store to buy my third one in two years. Either the cable wears out or the adapter gets too hot and burns out. I am rather amazed at the contrast between the great quality of the MBP and this toy of an adapter and how they can be sold in the same box.

    Rubber sheathing comes off

The rubber sheathing around the smaller diameter cord is deteriorating and coming off. It is like some alien micro-organism is eating away at the rubber sheathing exposing wire shield around the cord. I fear it may only be time before nearly instantaneous disseminated intravascular coagulation sets in... or it could be horribly bad QA on the part of Apple on the material used as this is the second adapter I have had problems with.

    Worst product ever

I am very careful with my computer and his accessories. I have had no problems with my laptop, but I am in the process of ordering my third charger. Guarantee never covers the damage. Very disappointed, very bad quality product and assistance.

Will my adaptor last? ... a frayed knot!

The Magsafe adapter seems destined to fray, the design means that strain is always placed where the cabled meets the adaptor, and there is insufficient reinforcement of the stress point. I have had several macbook and the previous adaptors are all okay, but this one is a lemon.

    Failed in under a year

The cord frays and fails in under a year. You have only one option: buy another for US$80.

This isn't enough to make me stop buying Apple, but enough of this sort of issue around Apple products might be. Fix this, Apple.

    Simply Awful.

The DC side of cord overheated at the base of the inverter and frayed away from it. This happened right after my warrantee ran out. Why in the world does apple not make this a standard DC plug? Then at least I could replace the cord instead of the entire assembly.

    Poor Design

This is my second Macbook. The previous charger cord laid flush along the edge of the computer. The new design for the Macbook with Retina display sticks straight out. It gets knocked off repeatedly. You can't even set it in your lap while it is charging without the chord falling off. Why not go back to the old design? Will the old charger work with the Retina display macbook?

    No Quality

I am writing this review with 3% battery on my Macbook Pro. After this review, my laptop will have to be charged by its new owner because $320 in charge cables is absolutely asinine. I can't do it anymore. It is becoming completely redundant, and using my Macbook is now a hassle. It is a shame that I have to switch to WINDOWS to avoid unnecessary charger fees. You would think that after so many negative reviews, Apple would get a grip and redesign a defective model.

The Pros: This cable did not set my house on fire when it burned

    Strain issues

After 1.5 years of using this adapter, it got strain relief problems and I have to change position of my computer 10 times to find a spot it will charge. On apple website, it says this is a known issue so they will change it free of charge, but when I brought in my adapter, they refused. so 0 stars for this. 1.5 is not enough for me to pay $79 again for apple's faulty device.

    Absolutely Rubbish

I have been using macs for a very long time and never have i had a issue with the charger wires tearing apart. Now i do travel around the world a lot and this one has been in my procession for 3 years. It gave up on me and the price of the charger is unreasonable, my charger started tearing after a few months.

3rd charger in 2 years, cord keeps breaking

I've had 3 of these chargers. Each one breaks in the same way, right at the base of the smaller cord. Each time that it breaks, wires become exposed, then 2-3 weeks later it stops working. For how high quality and durable the other products that I've purchased from apple have been, I couldn't be more unsatisfied. This is a simple fix; create a more durable cord!!!!!
