    Awful Design, Terrible Job Apple.

I had a 2009 Macbook 15" I paid $2000 for and the power adapter was 100% awesome. Never had an issue, used it and abused it.

I paid $2500 for this Late 2013 Mac. Power cord lasted less than 1.5 years before the cord frayed. This needs to be recalled for terrible quality and design. The thing not only heats up like crazy, but the cord literally melted and now the wires are exposed. Nice job apple. Nice job.

    Perfectly fine

I'm buying a second one for home use, and I'm really not sure why there are so many negative reviews for these power adapters (and all of Apple's cables for that matter). I've had my two current MacBook Pros for 11 and 3 years, and I'm still using the original chargers for them! They've been taken with me on airplanes, to work and to school, and apart from some grime and scratches, these adapters are perfect. There's really no need for the poor ratings, except maybe for the high price.

-The magnets are just fine, pull some of the cord up and leave some slack next to you, it's supposed to pop out easily so the computer isn't accidentally pulled off a table or lap. And you don't want powerful magnets in the laptop anyway.
-When you pull the plug out from the outlet, grasp the head of the plug, don't yank the cord. Do the same with the magnet side. This applies to any cable, from any manufacturer.

Seriously, I've had one for 11 years now, and it shows no signs of the damage people report. I'm not saying every single one is perfectly manufactured, things happen, but I think many of the issues people have are from neglect/mishandling.

    Design/magnet must have been updated

I purchased a rMBP last week with the new MagSafe2 power cord, and the first thing I noticed was has strong the magnet was. It takes considerably more force to remove than the old design.

It seems they might have rectified the issue, I hope this is the new norm for future buyers.

Works fine, still using the one that came w. my MacBook Pro

After a year of pretty heavy use, it still works fine.

    Love this charger!

I dont understand why everyone gives this charger a bad review, I havent had any problems with the charger, it works great and I love the feature that it disconnects if it gets pulled by something!

    Perfect Charger!!!!

I am now a spoiled apple owner with the best charger for laptops in the world. The T design is more useful that the L design chargers. I say this because you can flip it either way and use it, unlike the L design covers the thunderbolt and usb ports on my MBP when the cord comes back in towards the inside of the computer.

    Great Product

Not sure what all the negative reviews are about. I have been user this adapter for 8 months now and don't have any problems with it. I am now purchasing a second one so I can keep one at home and 2nd one at the office.

    Bunch of whiners

Magsafe 2 (magnetic) is the best thing ever invented! Weak? Maybe you just have a bad magnet, mine is plenty strong. In fact, if you think it's weak and it keeps falling off, maybe you're one of those who don't care about cables and just yank them without knowing! The magnet is designed so idiots don't over yank them, place the cable with ample room for movement. I don't know how many times this has saved me from yanking it by accident. I love this design! 5/5 stars!

    What's the problem guys???

It is GREAT! I've used these for many years with many MB Pros and they are all great - every one of them! I now own the 2nd generation model and it is better than them all. I can't imagine what the problem could be?

For the record - I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE NEW PRODUCT - IT WORKS VERY WELL, AS THEY ALWAYS HAVE, AND IT IS NOW BETTER THAN EVER!

    Why so much negative feedback

I'm a huge Apple fan, and did not have only one MacBook Pro. I bought the rMBP and the MagSafe 2 Power Adapter is fine. It saved my MacBook many times. If I just think about this, all the other computers in the world don't have this magnet feature, so if I would have any other computer than my mac, the computer would be destroyed. I think people are too picky when they talk about sitting on the couch, in bed, etc. I always use my mac there, and sure it disconnects (if you apply enough pressure), but if you sit normally everything is fine.

    Works Great!

I don't understand what folks are talking about regarding the magnet being too weak. Mine stays put quite perfectly and requires a pretty significant sideways twist to dislodge. Are people running down the street with these things? I am regularly on my MBP Pro Retina 15" with this charger in place up to 13 hours a day on my electrical engineering job. I've NEVER had the MagSafe dislodge unintentionally. The cables are also long enough to handle every situation I've encountered. Excellent product.

    No problems here

Not sure whats going on with the rest, but my MBP early 2013 model, the magnet is super strong. Its almost too hard to pull out. (late design change maybe?)

For every one wanting the old "L" shaped adaptor, just get the other 85w version with a mag 2 - mag adaptor. I fail to see how the "t" shape is that big of a problem. But hey, to each their own.

    Great design! Great Product!

I've had my new Macbook Pro Retina for about 8 months now and I can't believe all the bad reviews everyone is giving it! I never once had an issue with it falling out to easily. When it has come out, its a good thing it did because otherwise I'm sure over time all the accidental pulling that occurs would have damaged the cord if not my laptop. A great example is when my two year old is running around and accidentally trips on the cord, if it didn't have this magnetic design then either the laptop would of ended up on the floor or the port would get damaged from all the yanking on it so I give them 5 stars on design and quality. Exactly what I expected. Thanks Apple!!

No idea what they are talking about, this is awesome!

The magnet power connector.. I know how to use it, this is probably why I like it so much, I have walked from one end of the room to the other, I have shook my laptop, TRYING to make it fall off, to no avail it stayed on, sad day for me trying to be a hipster.

I just got a new fully geared and fully ready MacBook Pro /w Retina 15'', This thing converted me from a PC like a boss. I love this thing! Never going back to windows outside of the workplace.

Others must have a defective charger.

I have had my retina for a few days now and I must say that I have had NO ISSUES WHATSOEVER with the charger falling out... If I did have an issue, I am certain that apple would replace it for a non defective unit.. It makes me wonder what the others are doing to have the cable fall out so easily...On a side note, THEY ARE NOT BUILT TO BE USED WHILE WALKING AROUND!!

MagSafe 2 Power Adapter is Great!

What a great idea that works! Disconnects safely instead of ruining connectors or connection ports with an inadvertent hard pull or tug. Magnet works well to me. Plenty strong enough to stay connected to the MacBook Pro unless you're using it like a tightrope. Great invention Apple! Wish my iPads had the same kind of connection!

    Great product!

I dont know why you people complain! The connector has to be smaller in height to fit in with the smaller designed retina display macbook pro. I much rather have the slimmer notebook, than the previous macbook pro. The new connector stays in just fine. Yea, if you move it up or done it does come out a little easier, but this is good because the laptop is lighter weight. If the connector was just as strong as the previous design, the retina macbook would move a couple inches if you trip on the cord.

It is all about proportions people!!!

    Zero Problems

Unlike many of the reviewers, I've had zero problems with this charger. I bought the 13" MBPr on release day and I haven't had any problems with it falling off or not charging properly. I usually charge my laptop on a desk and my feet sometimes kick the cord, and the charger has stayed in place. I was surprised to read all the negative reviews as I was looking to buy a second charger to leave at the office.

    So much negative feedback?

Not sure why all the negative reviews about the MagSafe 2. As a charger it works perfectly, no overheating so far (as experienced in earlier models), and the connector seems to be a perfect combination of magnetic 'stickability' versus accidental tear out. From working in an environment where we are walking over leads constantly, my MBPwR has been saved at least a dozen times already. From my perspective, its great!
