Worst Power Cord Ever and Weak magnetic cord.

    • Written by from Los Angeles

It' s Saturday afternoon and after a day of play, time to work...but guess what? MacBook Air an otherwise great laptop with great battery life... has a power cord that Apple is charging $79 for and it has to be replaced. I've had the laptop for just a few months and I have little wear on it as I'm still using my MacBook Pro....The cord which is constantly coming undone and falling off is now non-functional and I have to get in the car and drive to purchase another one. Maybe the chord is under warranty. don't know. But I do know that I have no time to wait for a replacement, nor should I have to replace it since it shows zero signs of wear anyhow. I'm now paying with tax almost a hundred more for the computer than when I bought it. And since I haven't loaded the sometimes still required windows software on this computer (some of my media software is windows only) then it's hardly worth it! Yes, a Mac can last up to 5 years where a typical PC won't...but darn... $79 bucks for a new chord?? Apple...read all of the other reviews. I'm not the only complainer here, it seems.

I agree with all of the other negative reviews of Mac's power cord. Junk!! I've wrapped my power cord with electric tape so many times that it is now too heavy for the mag to stay attached.

I thought Apple had better quality. Certainly their prices would lead you to think that. Just one month out of warranty the battery started to fail. Guess what.....not covered by warranty. Now I have to leave my MacBook charge cable in all the time. I hate to pay $80 for a new cable as I'm sure this is the last Mac I'll ever own.

    Extremely disappointed with Mac products!!!

    Works fine for me!

I honestly don't understand all of the bad reviews... I'm not exactly careful with anything I own and have not yet had an issue with my power cord/adapter. Still looks and works like it's brand new! I'm only buying a second one to keep at work so I don't have to mess with wrapping it up and toting along with all of my other stuff every day.

    Kidding me, right?

    • Written by from Long Island City

ALL of Apple's chargers are ridiculously flimsy and do not last for more than a month or two. The casing will crack, break off, and expose the wires within a few weeks. And the cord will keep exposing itself, slowly undressing and revealing more of itself each time you leave the room. Get some electrical tape if you want to patch it up like Lady Gaga circa 2008.

    Charger broke within 4 months

After transporting my charger in my backpack, I was surprised to have found the cord to be frayed. Looks like a lot of people are having quality issues as well.

Do not think that was a compliment.....Have had my Air for maybe 9mos., and not impressed with all of the "believers". If you were to build a computer with all of the good of a dell, and a mac and windows and the mac os system you may have something....but quite frankly......they both, individually have serious issues.

There are some simple fixes on this mac that my cat could have figured out were non-starters. And now this bogus adapter.....very flimsy materials and design. Now need a new one

So disappointing. I bought my Mac in March and its already stopped working. I have left my charger at my desk where it is rarely ever moved from and it has stopped working for no reason at all. And $120 is a ridiculous amount to have to pay for another charger that will what, last me another 5 months?! It's so disappointing, especially given everything else about my Mac is awesome :(

Awful product. Why can't Apple make it right?

    • Written by from Chattanooga

Steve Jobs would lose it if he could see how bad this accessory is, how much it fails and how much people hate it. I'm on my third one that has failed, the machine is still under warranty and Apple wants me to buy another one. So I'm moving back to the MagSafe 1 with the converter for the 2. If it's this bad, you would think that Apple would make it right.

    Bad quality

    • Written by from Los Angeles

I have had no problem with apple products since the first day I started using it. however, this charging adapter, after being used for one year, was broken. The outer protection layer just fell off and all wires inside got exposed. Bad connection and I can't charge my laptop properly. I have to try several times until it starts working. Bad quality.

Incredible bad for an Apple reputation

    • Written by from La Plata

In 2 years I am buying the third adapter. With the first one the cable broke immediately "leaving" the adapter. The second one lasted one year. Suddenly began to became hot, very hot, and I quit using it.
A shame an Apple product last one year in average.

I've had a Macbook Air for about 2 and a half years. Within this time I have replaced my charger 5 times due to it breaking. I treat the charger so delicately yet it still manages to stop working after a few months.
Than again this is an Apple product.

    MacBook Air charger works great

    • Written by from WATSONVILLE

I can't believe all the bad reviews just because it disconnects easily. Newsflash! That's a safety feature to protect your computer! I use my Air sitting in my living room in my easy chair with the power on the floor to my right of my chair. I have to run the cord in front of my knees, behind my Air and it reaches fine. Sometimes it disconnects if I kick the cord, or lift my Air up for a close look at the screen (old eyes) but so what? Plug it back in. I'd rather that, than my Air falling on the floor.

And the charger still works like new after almost 3 years, as does the Air. This is my second MacBook Air (the first was stolen) after 2 Dell laptops, and there's no comparison. Everything about it is heads and shoulders above the Dell, including the charging device. I've kicked the cord more than once causing the Dell to land on the floor.

I think long time Mac users are so spoiled, that the slightest little inconvenience upsets them. Maybe they need to get a life.

I just bought another charger for my Air to pack for traveling.

What was wrong with MagSafe 1 that they had to downgrade to 2?

    • Written by from plano

Disconnects too easily, gets too hot and with 6 months of use, my charger looks like its about the fall apart. Really apple?

Falls out way too easily, major fraying issues

    • Written by from Hamilton

This thing falls out WAY too easily. The slightest nudge up or down and it pops right off. The magsafe 1 adapter had a much more reliable magnet. Within one year, there has been significant fraying of the cord near the magnet connector. I wrapped in electrical tape, followed by an electrical wire shrink wrap, which lasted about 3-4 weeks until the cord started splitting once again where the tape ended. With each new application of tape, the split just starts farther down. I imagine the entire cord will eventually be covered with electrical tape. The rubberized wire covering is much too soft, and not in any way durable enough for everyday use.

    broke way too soon

    • Written by from Santa Cruz

Like all my other mac (two each of 13" & 15" MacBook Pros) the rubber strain relief coming out of the adapter provides a break point for the shielding and eventually stops working no matter how carefully you treat the cable. The cable is just too weak to stand up to normal usage or even super light usage. I pull them apart, resolder the cable to the adapter circuit board and then make a longer strain relief with no sharp end (like the original rubber one has) out of duct tape. I've never had one of my repairs fail after years of use.

I think Apple has had long enough to see how these break and start improving them.

    Another Bad Review

    • Written by from Ponca City

The computer is amazing. The charger is junk. Just like everyone else, I take good care of my Mac, high quality must be more important than anything else. This is what happens when a computer company makes money off gadgets. Do better than this.

On my 3rd replacement for frayed power adapter

    • Written by from Albuquerque

I'm really disappointed that once again I need to replace a frayed power adapter for my MacBook Air. This time it has frayed near the T-connection that plugs into the actual laptop. The last two replacements were due to fraying where the cord connected to the adapter. I take good care of my Apple products. This fraying is due to simple expected use of my laptop and carrying it back and forth to campus. It's a laptop, so I should be able to expect it to last despite carrying it back and forth to school.
