    Mostly Functional

    • Written by from Georgetown

I've been using my charger for about 5 months now. I haven't had any issues with it failing to charge my macbook pro 13in w/ retina display. It can be knocked out of the charging port fairly easily, but as long as you leave the computer somewhere safe, that shouldn't be an issue.

However, like any apple charger, the coating of the cord tears up easily. Mine actually got caught in the blades of the fan and the coating was sliced through in a few places. A little electrical tape to keep everything in place and the charger is still working fine. It's just ridiculous Apple cant come up with a better cord. Lord knows they have the money to do it. So why dont they?

Apple should include a roll of electrical tape with this cord

    • Written by from Minneapolis

Like others I've relied on electrical tape to nurse my power cord along after it started fraying just 6 months after purchase. I work from home and move my Macbook around the house but almost never have occasion to wrap up the cord and travel with it. That said, it has still frayed like crazy. Apple - come on! With all the reviews about the substandard power cord do you just not care about your end users experience anymore, or are you enjoying the additional revenue generated by us having to repeatedly replace our power cords? Love my Macbook Air and iPhone - and I would love ya'll to pieces if you'd improve the quality of your cords!

Detaches at the drop of a hat!

    • Written by from Dunedin

While the power cord does what it is designed to do i.e. fall out if one tugs on/trips over it so as not to damage the computer, the angle at which it sits means that every tiny movement causes the cord to pop out of its socket...utterly infuriating!!! It defeats the purpose of it being a LAP top as the connection is much too unstable to use on anything other than a flat surface. Loved the L-shape that hugged the computer and detached when necessary and wish Apple had not re-designed the power cord. I love my machine, but long for my old L-power cord.

    Its Time For Change, Apple

    • Written by from san Antonio

What i think is ridiculous about Apple, is that they create these beautiful pieces of machinery like the MacBooks and keep updating them, but don't bother to fix the most important accessory for it. How do you, as one the biggest companies, expected to be fully respect and trusted if you can't put even 10% of the work you put into the computers into the charger for the computers.

Mine has exposed wire and sparks sometimes, so disappointed. How about make a charger just as sleek and compact as the computers, also without the inflated prices.

Should have adopted L-style cord from Magsafe 1!

    • Written by from Denver

The Magsafe 2 for MacBook Air should have adopted the convenient "L" style cord from the Magsafe 1. Having the cord stick out sideways from the laptop, rather than straight back like its predecessor, is a step backward. This is especially true given the smaller footprint of the Magsafe 2, which disconnects more easily than the Magsafe 1.

Two starts because it works, -3 because of the poor design.

Chargers should not wear out - Macbook Air 2012

    • Written by from Denton

I take good care of my stuff, but I do take my laptop in my bag with me almost everywhere I go due to my work. So the charger gets put in there as well. The charger stopped getting current and I realized it was due to twisted/frayed wiring near the brick. Tried fixing, but broke it further. Angry I have to spend ~$100 for a new one.

    Hate the adaptor

I adore my new MacBook Air but I HATE this new adaptor. It comes off at the slightest little movement. Apple, give us back a tighter one please!

    missing old design

    • Written by from Austin

I upgraded to a new Airbook this winter and hate the new power cord. I teach and am on-line a ton. I grade many nights from my chair (Airbook in my lap) and the cord disconnects far too easily. An annoyance at best. Bring back the old design.

Adapter too easily disconnects while using computer in lap

    • Written by from Lynchburg

I love my new MBA, but the MagSafe 2 power adapter is a bit of an annoyance as it continually disconnects from the computer when I am using it in my lap. If I shift positions or move the computer, even a little, the adapter frequently falls off. When I can, I prefer to use the computer plugged in, and save the battery for when I am away and not near a plug. I much prefer the old design which fit more snugly to the computer and had a stronger magnet. The adapter still charges the computer just fine after 5 months of use and shows no signs of wear. I just wish it would stay connected better.

    Don't flinch

    • Written by from Seattle

I loved the MagSafe L-shaped adapters. They were strong and unobtrusive. Why Apple chose to go back to the old T-shape AND make the magnet weaker is beyond me. So now the connector juts far out of the side of the laptop and awkwardly disconnects with the slightest movement. It disconnects if I shift the laptop (a current-gen 11" MacBook Air) in my lap. It disconnects if I pick up the laptop to move it. I gave this two stars, but was sorely tempted to give it one. It still charges the laptop when it does manage to stay connected, so in that sense it meets the minimum requirement for a power cable.

Go back to the L shape. Make the magnets strong again. Please. For my, and everyone else's, sanity.

    Problems traveling

    • Written by from Pelham

2 times this power adapter has stopped working while using it overseas. 1st time, adapter was plugged into 220v and stopped working. 2nd time I used a 220v step down converter to 110v and the replacement adapter stopped working. I absolutely love my macbook air, but not crazy about this adapter. The warrenty has covered a new power adapter both times. Thank you to apple support. Hopefully the 3rd adapter will be a charm.
