Poorly constructed cable, not worth the price

45W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter has a very delicate/fragile connection between the slim cable and the adaptor box/plug. Wrapping this slim/DC cable around the hooks, as apple suggests, on the square plug still stresses this connection. The connection began to fray drastically within months of purchase so I covered it with electrical tape. First I covered just the cable, which did not seem to help for long as the tape slid along the wire. Then I covered the connecter on the box and the cable and this held for a some months till the cable stopped charging. When I took off the tape the wires were completely separated around a non-conducting thread like score.

Granted my use is extensive and I throw the cable in my backpack a lot. Laptop cables do not fray this easily. This plug is heavy and the wire far too delicate. The fabric cover for wires that is now available on many cords fares much better. Apple, you need to either change the design or construction of your charging cords or make them practically free so that your customers, and people who rely on you brand are served well.

    VERY POOR QUALITY!

I too have had a very poor experience with Apple cables and chargers. Cable discolored and stripped near the tip of the MagSafe 2 connector and towards the middle of the cable. I also had to change the AC Plug as the charger overheated and sparks came out every time I plugged it into an outlet. Can't believe Apple stands behind such poorly designed and manufactured product! Also, replacement adapter is way overpriced, considering how cheaply-made it is.

    Fragile and expensive

The system itself works fine, but the technical execution is inadequate. The cable of my charging device broke where it meets the transformer - the isolation is just too weak to withstand everyday use. Buying a replacement for EUR 89 is incredulously expensive :(

    Charger cord wires exposed.

My charger cord has unraveled it still works but I run the risk of being Electrocuted from the wires being exposed just to charge your product. This is your product and you want me to spend $79.00 for a replacement. I should be able to return this to the store and have my chord replaced for free. I had my Macbook Pro Since 2012 and this is my third laptop from Mac. Mac WTH WTH! your computers cost way too much to have faulty cords. Not only is it dangerous its inconvenient. The latest cords are faulty I have been using your products for over 10 years but you have to step it up for your customers. I don't spend over $1000 for faulty products. You should reimburse your customers for this.

Poor design! Worst part of Apple.

I've had my Macbook Air for 4 days and I have to say I'm very frustrated with the poor quality of the power adapter. The magnet connection is so weak the thing keeps falling out.
I have been an avid Apple user for the past 10 years. I have owned and currently own the computers, phones, watches. I have had them all and while I am very pleased with most of the products with little complaint, this charge is ridiculous.
I am beginning to regret downsizing from my Macbook Pro with the charger that stayed put for the most part. This not only won't stay connected but it takes far too long to charge the computer.
Please, Please, Please redesign the power adapter!!

    Serious Problems

I have been an Apple lover since day one. Everything i own is Apple. However, I have been having issues with their cords, computers, really everything. It is a shame how fast a company can fall from grace. It truly makes me sad. I wish I could post pictures so everyone could see how bad this cords really gets after such a short time frame.

    Junk!!

I agree with all of the other negative reviews of Mac's power cord. Junk!! I've wrapped my power cord with electric tape so many times that it is now too heavy for the mag to stay attached.

I thought Apple had better quality. Certainly their prices would lead you to think that. Just one month out of warranty the battery started to fail. Guess what.....not covered by warranty. Now I have to leave my MacBook charge cable in all the time. I hate to pay $80 for a new cable as I'm sure this is the last Mac I'll ever own.

    Extremely disappointed with Mac products!!!

    Cheaply made

No matter how careful you are with this charger, it WILL at some point break down on you. Mine just frayed and burnt.

    Another Bad Review

The computer is amazing. The charger is junk. Just like everyone else, I take good care of my Mac, high quality must be more important than anything else. This is what happens when a computer company makes money off gadgets. Do better than this.

    Overpriced and short-lived

I bought my Macbook Air in fall of 2013. Here it is, summer 2016 and I'm on my second Magsafe adapter (cable casing ripped on the first one), which separated where the cable meets the MagSafe bit that attaches to the computer. So I'm about to buy charger cable no. 3. That's ridiculous. It's an insult to the consumer to sell something that fragile, and an offense to the environment to produce products that short-lived. I like so much about Apple products, but their drive to instant disposability is truly sad.

Stationary Use Yet Replacing in Less Than 6 months

Long time PC user, convert to Mac. Love my MacBook Air & iPad used for store POS. However, this is the second time now that I'm having to have the power adapter replaced due to it splitting/falling apart. Mind you, I use this laptop exclusively at my desk at home, which is about as conservatively as it could be used. The first time, I woke one morning to find the cord shredded like it had exploded. Today, I just happened to run my hand across the cord and found the small split. Thankfully, Apple is replacing it again, but it's still a hassle and I just think that expecting a better quality adapter for such an expensive piece of equipment doesn't seem unreasonable at all.

    Terrible product

Had my Macbook Air since december 2012 and I am buying a third charger! The cable breaks so easily and I am tired of spending 80 euros on new one almost every year! On my Lenovo laptop this never ever happened, charger lasted for years and years. Shame on you Apple.

    Horrible

First of all, the charger falls out of the computer very easily and takes awhile to charge the battery. Secondly, the wires have begun to come out at the base of the adapter. It is totally shredded from regular wear and tear. I was electrocuted by the open wires that started to stick out when plugging it in. Now I have to go spend $80 on a new one due to poor design. Based on other reviews, I am not the only one with this issue.

    Macbook Achilles' heel

The charger (and specifically its cord) is the weakest point of all Macbooks. In my experience, you just have to assume it will break at some point and you would not be able to work anymore if you are in a country or remote area out of easy reach of an Apple Store. Bringing a spare charger with you is the only safe option to be sure you get your job done in those cases. Its price, however, adds insult to injury.

    Worst product from Apple ever

I have been using a macbook air for less than a year, and I already need to get a third charger. Tells a lot about the build quality of this charger. Seriously Apple, this is really bad! You've been nothing but a disappointment to your customers in this regard. I wish I could give zero stars to this instead of one star.

    Disgusting

Obviously faulty and ridiculously overpriced. My admiration for Apple is as frayed and broken as the cord on my power adapter.

Incredible bad for an Apple reputation

In 2 years I am buying the third adapter. With the first one the cable broke immediately "leaving" the adapter. The second one lasted one year. Suddenly began to became hot, very hot, and I quit using it.
A shame an Apple product last one year in average.

Falls out way too easily, major fraying issues

This thing falls out WAY too easily. The slightest nudge up or down and it pops right off. The magsafe 1 adapter had a much more reliable magnet. Within one year, there has been significant fraying of the cord near the magnet connector. I wrapped in electrical tape, followed by an electrical wire shrink wrap, which lasted about 3-4 weeks until the cord started splitting once again where the tape ended. With each new application of tape, the split just starts farther down. I imagine the entire cord will eventually be covered with electrical tape. The rubberized wire covering is much too soft, and not in any way durable enough for everyday use.

    broke way too soon

Like all my other mac (two each of 13" & 15" MacBook Pros) the rubber strain relief coming out of the adapter provides a break point for the shielding and eventually stops working no matter how carefully you treat the cable. The cable is just too weak to stand up to normal usage or even super light usage. I pull them apart, resolder the cable to the adapter circuit board and then make a longer strain relief with no sharp end (like the original rubber one has) out of duct tape. I've never had one of my repairs fail after years of use.

I think Apple has had long enough to see how these break and start improving them.

    Terrible construction

I take insanely good care of my apple products, in particular the power cord, since I know that these things are like the achilles heel of the system. I have had pretty much every generation of apple latptop since the 1990s and never have had problems with the charger. Now I have a deadline approaching, a single machine (this laptop) and when the battery dies, its end-game since the power adapter, which looks flawless mind you, is no longer charging the machine. I used a coworkers and it worked fine so it is no the machine itself.

Guess it was time for Apple to shake me down for another almost 100 bucks for a garbage power supply. sigh.
