Pays to get the real thing

Never had a failure in all the ones I own, and I have a bunch.
Have tried the "genuine OEM" ones you can get online. Most of them don't work. If they do, they don't work with my Apple products as well as the authentic Apple ones do.
Word of advice: just buy the real thing from the real company and your Apple gear will stay working like it should. Yes, they are expensive. This is one thing not to skimp on.

    Well built

I've owned about four of these and they are all still working.

    This is what it is.

It is a power adapter, not a charging unit. What else do you expect?
Still, this smooth, cubish white thing works seamlessly well with other Apple devices and do not generate much heat.

    Product works as described.

Power Adapter works as described. I've had one of these with every iPhone I've purchased over the years, every model since the 3GS, except the 6S which I skipped, plus a few extra, and I've never had one break. I've kept them in laptop bags, purses, and backpacks. Never had one break or bend, never had one overheat or stop working. These things are hefty. My only complaint is they are small enough that I've managed to loose a few over the years, but at the same time the size is advantageous, perfect to throw in a pants pocket or even a clutch purse when theres not a lot of room. Overall, I couldn't ask for a better USB to wall power adapter.

    All 11 still working

Have 11 little blocks of these in the house ... have been using them since switchover to Apple roughly 6 years ago... have not had a single failure to date. Also... it's worth mentioning I've not had a single reliability-related failure on any apple product I've purchased from apple... this includes 3 desktops, 3 laptops, 3 iPads, 9 iPhones... and counting because we'll be buying the new iPhones this September. Apple gear has worked for our family without effort and without failure. Just works. Probably jinxed us... but the record to-date is flawless.

    Works until it falls apart

For the money spent I expected a better made item. I try and avoid knock offs because I worry about damaging my iPhone. This item is made with the same quality as the $5 ones sold elsewhere. Very disappointed.

Very disappointed with quality of this power adapter

My wife and I bought two brand new iPhone 6 devices in October 2015. Each came with a 5W USB Power Adapter. Since then we have gone through 3 of these adapters. They just don't seem to last more than a couple of weeks. I use a surge protector power bar when I am charging my phones to protect from power spikes. I don't want to use the cheaper clone adapters advertised on the Internet, as I always prefer to use the actual adapter made for the device, but the quality of these Apple plugs is pathetic. I have had a 12 W USB Power Adapter which came with my iPad 3 for over three years now and never had a problem with it. Apple please do something about this. I am getting fed up with having to go to the store to exchange the defective plug for a new one over and over. (Thank God I bought the extended warranty with the phones - although that was to cover the phones themselves and I never expected to have to keep on using it for adapter replacements!!!) Does anyone have any ideas as to why this keeps happening?

    Apple 5W USB Power Adapter

Poor quality for an apple product. I’m on my third charger now. Apple charges a high price for their small accessories like chargers and cords. They need to up their quality or give some kind of warranty on their small accessories!!! I started to buy aftermarket accessories and am finding them to be of higher quality.

    Not a happy xamper

My 2nd charger in just over a year's time has died. You would think a product as expensive as this would be of better quality. But.....

    Works Great

I didn't buy one, this is the one that came with my iPad mini. Works great every time. I recommend it to anyone who needs one. But be aware iPad owners, if you use your iPad while charging a lot, you might look at the 12w because my iPad mini charges really slow when using it. So I use that one for my iPod nano and got me a 12w for my iPad and charges my iPad fast.

Had for years and still works

Do not understand all these people complaining about it not working or being too fragile. Had mine for several years and it's still going strong. Only use it sparingly, but it always works when I need it. I think a lot of the people complaining it is user error, plugging into wrong voltage, misuse, not taking care of it. Mine works and I'm happy with it.

    Works Great and Long Lasting!!!

After having read so many bad reviews for this charger, I'm perplexed at "Why?" and am compelled to write my experience with the two charger adapters I have which is that they work great and are long lasting.

My first adapter is nearly6 years old now and has been going strong still after daily use every day since then. It does a reasonably decent job at charging and is compact enough to pack when on a trip. My second additional adapter is three years old and is one that came with my iPhone 4S and it too has seen daily use, even now with my iPhone 5. (I'm simply keeping my iPhone 5 charger as a spare. It's still wrapped in its original plastic protectant film.)

Finally, I've read where someone has said their plug is loose in the wall socket and falls out. That usually means the wall socket is simply worn out. I have that very same problem with an outlet in my office while the others are fine, thus I wouldn't hold too much credit to that particular criticism.

    Power Adapter?

To anyone I know 'power adapter' is synonymous with 'charger'. Just try to charge your phone with this device. Go ahead, plug it in. It'll be a while.

    Smelled like fire

After 16 months of use, it seems to have burnt out. It was plugged into a power strip. I unplugged my phone and left. While I'm away, it was heating up and the smell filled the house. My young adult turned off the power strip. Lucky there was no fire! Now it doesn't charge anymore. I'm surprised. Expected better from Apple.

Didn't work out of the box with new iPhone 6

Bought an iPhone 6 yesterday; new sealed box from Apple store. It did come with a lightening bolt cable, but the 5-W charger did nothing at all: when plugged, in no "charge" icon shows next to the battery icon. DOA, I'll be taking this back for exchange, but after reading the reviews I'd be scared to leave one plugged in unattended.

Better get back to the drawing board and change your OEM vendors for this item, Apple! Maybe make a slightly bigger 6-W device?

Fits in socket. Doesn't melt or catch on fire!

The off-brand ones that look like this also sometimes melt, spark, make loud buzzing noises, catch on fire, or take up 3 socket spaces in a power bar, or simply don't actually provide adequate charging power.

They are ridiculously expensive, but after my experience with the "direct from China" deals on Amazon and eBay I do have to say taht it's worth paying 10 times as much for something that lasts for years and doesn't burn the house down.

    Dangerous product

This power adapter blew up while it was plugged into a travel charger. Thankfully, I was still in the room when it happened or else it could have started a small fire. Do not buy.

I've have a few of these from current and previous iPhones now, and have never had an issue with any, (So Far!) All I can say is to buy separate they are pricey, but the quality is much better than the after market cheap ones found on eBay. Speaking from experience.
