Best wireless router/storage device I've used to date, highly recommend!

I have been through quite a bit of wireless routers over the years from D-Link, Netgear, Linksys, Cisco. These routers would work for some time but then would eventually start failing and required reboots fairly often. I moved from a two story home to a three story home and wanted adequate wireless coverage. Immediately after moving to my new home, the wireless issues started. After quite a bit of frustration, I decided to try the Time Capsule since I use quite a bit of Apple devices. I set this unit up over a year ago and have not had to do much with it since. I have rebooted it only recently for a firmware update. This unit is a work horse and maintains wireless coverage and connectivity throughout my home without issue. Having the ability to manage the Time Capsule from my iPhone, iPad and other Apple devices is a very nice feature. The Time Machine backup feature has been used on many occasions to restore an entire system back to a new Mac device. Having peace of mind knowing that your systems are always backed up and can be restored with a click of a button is just priceless. It is basically a set it and forget it type of system. You set up your wireless network, set the Time Machine options on your Mac devices and you're done. My only regret is not having this unit sooner. Frustration and hassle could have been averted many years prior.

my 2008 model saved my bacon

When my older iMac died an inglorious death, this little older Time Capsule saved my life, so to speak. When the new one arrived, the time Capsule proceeded to go to work and restore every single thing just as it was, so that using the new iMac was no different than using the prior one. It put every siingle item back where it had been and it was just like having my old computer...except in a sleek new package. I will not ever be without one of these. That one crash was enough to make me a fan for life.

    Great product

I've had this for two and a half years. Have never had a problem with it. Does what it is supposed to do. Don't think I've ever had to even re-boot it. Would buy it again.

    Amazing

It set itself up! Didn't have to do anything to it, just plugged it into my Mac and Ethernet port. Super fast, and I can create a guest network. Highly recommend.

    The best router I've used

I went through my fair share of WiFi routers. All of them that I've used, from Belkin, Linksys, D-link, etc were all painful to setup and had options I'm sure their makers don't even understand. They also got super slow as time went on, need to be restarted every now and again to keep things running optimally. Yes, they were cheap, probably the only good thing about them.

Enter Time Capsule. I bought this along with my Retina Macbook Pro two years ago now in 2013. It's 2015 and is been well over 2 years, I I thought I would at least share my experience. First, it's so simple to use! The setup was painless, just open Airport Utility on Mac or iPhone and enter the network name and pretty much done! Airport Utility is one simple app as well. Not a lot of options but that's a good thing for me (not that I'm not technologically savvy -- heck I'm a software developer, but I have no patience with hard to use hardware/software).

I also use Time Machine to back it up and encrypt my backup. Two other people in my house also back up to the same time capsule. 2TB is plenty for us. The Time Capsule automatically cleans up older backups and pretty much takes care of everything.

After setup, there is 0 maintenance that I've had to do on it, aside from the fact that there were 1-2 software updates, which again, was painless. I don't even remember ever restarting the Time Capsule outside of power outages. Folks, this is one product that I don't mind saying, It just works ™.

Sure it's about $100-$200 more expensive than the rest of the guys, but you know what? It's worth it, just for the experience alone. You can get a decent AC wifi router for $100 less than this. But they would be more painful to use, harder to maintain, have way lower quality of customer support, and they would need replacing after 1-2 years because somehow they manage to slow down as time goes on.

This is hands down a 5/5 product for me. Couldn't be happier.

    Works easily, reliably and fast

Bought this a couple years ago and we have had no issues until today (more on that later). Easy set up. Easy back ups. Ease of mind since we have had other laptops hit the ground (two boys) with memory potentially lost with no back ups since we never get around to that. Now everything is regularly backed up and we hardly notice (a few minutes of slow work when this is happening).
Brought home and up and running in minutes. First backups were done and took a while, but since then they go very quickly.
Now regarding speed. I was curious to see why people were giving one star and noticed many referred to slower speeds. I don't get it. I did speed tests today to compare the Comcast wifi signal (under 20mbs up and download) to the AirPort speeds (125Mbs download and 20 upload). We have the Xfinity Blast service. Not sure why the wifi provided by Xfinity/Comcast is so slow, and glad we bought this one or would have no benefit from the Blast we are paying for.
The only "problem" we've had was today when I tried to backup my laptop and it wasn't finding the backup disc. Went to apple website to trouble shoot and it said to ensure they were both on the same network. I went right by that recommendation thinking of course I was on the right network. But after futzing around for 30 mins with no success I checked and found my lap top for some reason was set to the unlocked comcast wireless network in our house meant for guests. Fixed that and easily backed up.

    Use As Intended

I purchased my first Time Capsule in 2011 and just replaced it with the current model. Yes the old one still works and has been backing up three macs hourly since it was new. It has never been turned off. It's currently a back up for the current Time Capsule. This is what I know. Do not put the Time Capsule in an enclosure, make sure you have good air flow around it, set up the time capsule as Apple instructs don't think you know better and use the equipment as intended. This is a durable product don't be afraid of the reviews by those who mean well, but may be legends in their own minds

Great job @ $50 a year - which hits technology upgrade point

This is my third time capsule in about 15 years. It serves as a router (incoming WAN from cable modem to HP LAN switch); wireless access point (part of a wireless canopy with 3 airport express); and time machine target. This purchase replaced a Time Capsule from 2008. Installation was a no brainer. I left the other Time Capsule powered up. When I started the new Time Capsule, it asked if I wanted to copy the settings from the old Time Capsule. Click Yes. Done.

It does its job beautifully. The backups - Time Machine - from the macs in the house has never failed. I've used it only half a dozen times over the years, but when you need it, you need it.

It is a consumer grade product which means expect it to last about 5 years or so.

Amazing! All wifi gripes eliminated immediately!

This little guy was an absolutely wonderful investment. All of my gripes and complaints about my wifi network (slow speed, poor range, cutting out) are gone. I can't recommend this machine enough. Plug and play- in just a few simple steps, my brand new network was ready to go, as was my Time Machine backup. A must-have for tech enthusiasts, pros, and beginners alike.

    Best router and backup drive!

I got this after numerous configurations of Airport Extremes and Airport Expresses, and just as it says, it set up almost instantly and seamlessly. Faster speeds, quick wireless backuos, instant recognition of my printers and Air Play devices without a concern. Well worth the price and the minimal effort!

    Fabulous router

    Fabulous!!
Easy to setup, great signal strength, 802.11ac is a huge improvement and the time capsule is soooo easy to work with and fast.
I stored 300GB in a few hours. Setup took less than 15 minutes, plug and play. This is the only way to go for a home network and fast wireless.

3 years later and still runs perfect

Got this three years ago as a way for me to back up my hard drive, and to use as a router as I was going off to school. I have never had a single issue or problem with it. The router capabilities are fantastic and it significantly increases the range for the internet. Tried a WD backup but had a few issues with it, so decided to upgrade to this. Love it and still do.

    Amazing difference with Apple Engineering

I just recently purchased a Western Digital "My Cloud" to use with the family of Macintosh products that I have at my house. I was intrigued by it's low price point, Macintosh compatibility, and variety of access features that it advertised. It did not take long to see, and I'm technologically proficient, how terrible not only the setup was, but also it's performance. It was slow, multiplied by a labyrinth of different setup procedures that left you guessing if you were taking full advantage of it's functionality or not. Needless to say I took the Western Digital back to the store.

I then purchased this Airport Extreme with 2TB time capsule and took it home with me. Within 10-15 minutes, I had disabled my current wireless gateway, configured the airport, and it was immediately backing up all of my devices. Incredible! I love the simplicity that comes with well engineered Apple products. Also, even though I didn't need a new wireless router, I am appreciating the AC technology as it backs up incredibly fast!!!!

    Nice job Apple!!!

Simple, Sleek, Fast, Reception and Compatibility

The title says it all! I am very impressed on how the Airport Time Capsule functions! The router is located in my basement of a 3 story house. The third story gets full bar reception! Haven't seen that much since I had an access point set up in the home!

Looks simple and un-noticed as a router, blends in with it's modern design! Just have the wires well set up and clean and you're good!

Blackberry to Windows PC to the Macbook Air, iPad and iMac (2009) all connect instantly! It is as if the internet is built in to my devices these days.

B/G/N/AC - My cellphone alone goes 433 Mb/s (N/AC) with over 12 devices connected on the network at the same time.

Time Capsule - 2TB, Wicked feature to have!

    Keep the competition going Apple!

    Impressed!!!

I had a Linksys router and separate Seagate backup drive. As a router the Time Capsule blows the Linksys away! My Linksys router picked up interference and lost its signal whenever I used my microwave, and I had to reconnect to my network whenever I brought my Mac Air out of sleep mode. The Time Capsule never drops, has no issues with the microwave, and all my devices automatically pick it up. Time Machine make back ups a piece of cake and there’s never a need to connect to an external drive. I just turn on Time Machine. Set up was a breeze – only required a couple of mouse clicks.

I was an Apple doubter for a longtime. But I am sold! They are way more than a mobile phone company!

Hands down, best stylish and fastest router.

Now this is router quality you get for the price even if it's Apple! Nothing compares to this which Inlove most about using the time capsule for it. Wish Microsoft thought of this at the time because this is a huge leap forward to making the most of my experience. Speed of light, I can be as far as I want in my home and the range is still perfect! My neighbors are impressed how they can connect from their homes to.
