Does not offer advanced settings such as SNMP Config...

    • Written by from LISMORE

Product works well enough, but does not provide advance settings which is a problem if you want to use a tool like NetUse to monitor your routers internet traffic. I know that I can revert back to using Airport Utility 5.6 to be able to config SNMP but shouldn't have to. Re-introduce advanced configuration settings to this product and I will happily give it 5 stars.

This is the one to get.

Replaced previous (too small) external hard drive and Airport Extreme with this unit.

Airport (WiFi) function superior to previous Airport Extreme...which is saying a lot because the Airport Extreme is a REALLY good router. Had to mess a bit with Airport Express device used for network extender but actually easy once I resolved my ignorance via Apple phone support...took minutes.

Hard drives in the Time Capsule are neither fast nor slow...about average. However, the actual function is totally smooth, noiseless, brainless, and automatic. Thing just sits there and works. Excellent product. Would have given five stars if faster drives....small deal given the intended function.

    This one works great!

My first TC (purchased about 2 years ago) had some mating issues with my other equipment - likely the Comcast modem. So I returned the TC. I am still with Comcast, but have purchased my own (ZOOM) modem and decided to try another TC. Hooked it all up, and it works great! Fast wifi connections all throughout the house, whether on our MBA's, iPhones, Wii U, XBOX, TV set or DirecTv. Plus, we can now back our MBA's up wirelessly! Granted this is still a new set-up, so longevity is still TBD, but initially, it is working great!

(Also, to note, this time I bought one from Amazon. It was used, so I returned it and bought it from Apple instead. I would not suggest buying from anyone other than Apple unless you can physically see that it is indeed a brand new unit you will be bringing home.)

Can't even get it to work

    • Written by from Chicago

I followed the set up instructions. The computer can be connected to the Airport Time Capsule but there is no internet connection, despite all the green lights. I waited for more than 20 min and tried resetting. Finally, I had to switch back to the older Airport Time Capsule and back to internet. What is the usual set up time once you connect the WAN port cable? Thanks.

This thing is useless in all aspect except maybe as a network router (and not even wireless). First it will back-up your info but you can never ever restore from it actually. Good for storing versions of documents, but if you ever try to recover a computer or upgrade to a new computer, it will never work. I've had 2 different Time Capsules and tried both to upgrade to a new computer and both times it failed so I just had to manually transfer my data. The wireless is slow and terrible. The router constantly will disappear from the network making time machine backups impossible until you restart the router by unplugging and replugging. Just get another router and attach a NAS.

Pros - I am an Apple product lover, but was very sceptical about this Time capsule. The set up was very simple and easy. The range was superior to any other wifi I had prior. The speed as well was super fast with all 8 of my Apple products in my house. I would recommend this to anyone.

Cons - I thought the Time capsule would be able to be used to backup ALL apple products, iPhones included. I was wrong. Only for Mac computers. I recommend in the future that iPhones can be backed up on here(but then why would we have to pay for the cloud). Lastly I just couldn't get the time capsule to work with my current router as a range extender.

Simple, Sleek, Fast, Reception and Compatibility

    • Written by from Markham

The title says it all! I am very impressed on how the Airport Time Capsule functions! The router is located in my basement of a 3 story house. The third story gets full bar reception! Haven't seen that much since I had an access point set up in the home!

Looks simple and un-noticed as a router, blends in with it's modern design! Just have the wires well set up and clean and you're good!

Blackberry to Windows PC to the Macbook Air, iPad and iMac (2009) all connect instantly! It is as if the internet is built in to my devices these days.

B/G/N/AC - My cellphone alone goes 433 Mb/s (N/AC) with over 12 devices connected on the network at the same time.

Time Capsule - 2TB, Wicked feature to have!

    Keep the competition going Apple!

Great until it died 4 months later

    • Written by from MOSS BEACH

Best router and backup - couldn't have been happier! Then, it died in just 4 months. Power light went out and that was it... Not sure what is going on with apple quality, but I also bought a mac book pro that had to be returned due to a known video card issue... :(
I'll get another most likely, but not counting on this for my only backup!

i have bought the air port time capsule to replace seagate media center.
the seagate was a loot better.
i was able to access it from tv without computer and able to do east tm backup.

really bad that its not accessible from tv-dlna or iPhone app.
cant access to my go pro video easily like the seagate.

apple should add dlna support and iOS app to make this killer

Don't get me wrong this is a great Time Capsule, however I think Apple has let us down. Wireless is great for day to day backing up, though initial backups and full restores tend to be so much quicker using a cable. Sometimes we just don't have hours to leave a MacBook at home doing a full restore or back up using wireless. Every new Mac comes with Apple's own Thunderbolt drive; infact there is now Thunderbolt 2. So why would they not include it in their new Time Capsule for those occasions when we want to do it a little faster?
What a let down that there is no Thunder Bold.

    Time Capsule (replaced 3 times)

    • Written by from Lorraine

The Time Capsule (2T) has been nothing but a nightmare. You just need to negative reviews to understand why I am rating it as a lemon (disconnecting, slow to backup, unreliable, unaccessible etc.) As for the people that are finding it a true miracle, it would be interesting to know how long these people have had their unit and to which product they are comparing it to. I have two other different hard disks and they work much better than this! I should have known better that to buy something that does wi-fi and backup. I am finding that it just doesn't work!

    Apple removed SNMP

    • Written by from San Jose

I recently purchased one of these to replace my Airport Extreme that finally died. I was in a rush, going on out of town the next day for two weeks, so I didn't enough time to research it. For some reason Apple chose to remove SNMP which means I can no long monitor the device. Had I known this I would have purchased something else. Everything works fine so no complaint other then I am unable to monitor the device.

Love Apple / Even though I lost my memories PUN INTENDED! Returning Mañana

    • Written by from Stamford

I purchased this AirPort Time Capsule as an emergency where I had to send iMac to apple so I needed to back up my files,... I got this out of box with the easy to set up feature but!!!!!!!!!! Later was warned that this device is not meant to be used as an external drive. AND,... it is a stand a lone router meaning you can't plug this device in thinking it will generate an ip address and just work. no no no honey,... I love apple till death but rocking to the beat of your own drum all the time is getting annoying. I was warned DON NOT save files to this unit like and external,... it is only meant for backing up 1 - 10 computers via time capsule AND through the use of the Wifi ofr internet. THAT is it. so after I was warned,.... now that my photos and music from since my third Mac days 2001,... and now memories and all gone. The folders are grey but damaged. Please please stop advertising this as a WiFi Router and external drive in one. it is a Wifi TimeMachine back up unit. Where is Steve when I need him

    Ease of set up

    • Written by from NEVADA CITY

After plugging in the cables the Amber light flashed and the book instruction said go to page 18. I followed the instruction and in a minute it was working. Then the utility lead me through setting a password and I was done except for installing the password in my iphone and iPad. I had envisioned an afternoon of frustration. Even Time Machine started working after I designated Time Capsule as the disk to use. It hadn't worked for three weeks.

    Top of the line!

Went into my local electronics store looking for a new router. I went over to the shelf and picked up a high-end wireless router ($300) Walked over to look at the apple stuff. Started talking to the Apple attended on staff at the store. He informed me that Apple also has a wireless router that is easier to set up And very user-friendly with AC technology ( The latest Wireless Technology) . I certainly did not know this! ( Apple needs to advertise this more) I also was informed for the same manufacturers price of other high-end wireless router! Apple offers a high-end wireless router with a 2 TB hard drive for back ups. I was very interested in this because we own two MacBook Pros with retina display. I purchased the Apple airport time capsule took it home to set it up. The set up was so very easy! From unboxing the airport Time capsule to completion was only 7 minutes! I was totally blown away with the AC Wi-Fi range! I'm getting double the wi-Fi distance that I was used to!! Thank You Apple for simplifying our lives! Keep up the great work!!

    Limited feature set for router

    • Written by from Durham

I have owned the time capsule for at least a couple months now. The range and signal are fantastic all over the house and out in the yard. I have one PC and one Mac backing up to it, including the use of an external USB HDD.

The negatives are around the lack of domain and port filtering. Every router I've had previously has had some capability to white- or black-list domains or block specific ports (e.g. XBox). I've partially solved that problem with OpenDNS.

After trying to purchase a couple of lowered priced devices (router and extender), I decided that I would buy a time capsule and give it a shot after reading a lot of positive reviews. Let's just say that not only I am happy but my daughters are happy too. We have great coverage and speed throughout the house. Devices include iMac, Macbook, two iPod touches, three iPads and two Apple TV's. Great product and I highly recommend, next step is set up time machine,

My old (version 5) Airport Time Machine has worked well, but the signal did not reach everywhere in our three-story house. I had read that the signal strength might improve with newer devices, so on a whim I decided to buy this new version. The setup could not have been easier, even by Apple standards--I moved the modem cable to the new Airport and plugged it in. Upon opening Airport Utility, the new device was identified and the new device seamlessly replaced the old. So none of my devices, including Apple TV, the kids' video game consoles, and even a Samsung Blu-ray player had to rejoin (the last one is pretty annoyingly cumbersome). Out of curiosity I clicked on my old Airport and the utility asked me if I wanted to use it to extend the network. I placed it elsewhere in the house and it works great.

Speeds? On SpeedTest I went from (Comcast cable) 18Mb/sec to 36Mb/sec. Pretty incredible for a few minutes of setup.
