    Reboot and overheating errors.

Had the unit a few months and it started dropping connections with the internet and local machines. DIscovered the indicator on the front was Yellow all of the time.

Used the Airport app on my Mac to find out it was overheating all of the time and forcing near constant reboots. This unit was not running in a hot or closed location.

I called for support and the rep asked what I did to break the unit because no one ever has problems with it. He then told me that my problem was customer created and I did 't qualify for support!!!

Between this and my $300 beats wireless headphones breaking maybe buying 'Apple' products isn't such a good idea anymore...

    Keeps getting worse

Half the distance of my old router and I have never been able to read files on any USB drive I attached not to mention that the USB port is USB 2.0 in 2016 so Apple could make an extra nickel on us.

As of Yosemite, OS X/Max OS doesn't even see the drive.

    Extremely difficult to configure

I am so disappointed. Having been a very big fan of apple products I have recently opted to use the airport timecapsule to both act as my time machine back up and router. Basically non of my non-apple wireless products will connect to the internet, ( Bose Soundtouch and 4 TVs -Smasung and Sony) . I believe there is one 'big IP conflict' going on, but i just don't have the technical skill to solve the problems, so its been an extremely expensive mistake to drop my simple, but very effective Tricolor router, for the Apple product. If anyone is considering this produce and isn't fully technically competent int he filed of IP address processes etc then don't!!

    Expensive and lousy :(

This will be short. Mine lasted a year, failed for no conceivable reason. I won't buy it again...why would I?!

It's a POS, save your money, buy something for 1/10th the price.

Fails in 3 years: hard drive and now router function

A couple months ago the hard drive failed and only 3 years after purchase, and now lately the router itself fails. Perhaps routing fails because running without a working hard drive, but unlikely. The strict limitations of managing this devices, limited capabilities, and lack of updates, make me never want to see one of these again. There hasn't been an update since I bought this one, so not sure why Apple doesn't update this device regularly - at least let me buy a new one with better features and a better hard drive. If you expect superior products from Apple, which is reasonable, this is not one of them.

    Absolutely awful!!!!

We recently upgraded from the older 2tb version to the new 3tb. I cannot stress just how much of a mistake this was and a waste of £350. It is far slower than the older 2tb, mostly in respect to opening folders up (it can take 10-15 mins every time), which is a massive issue when I have my main product image library stored on there, which my team use to build various product catalogues, all linking in wirelessly (About 30,000 images). The older 2tb worked like a dream for this purpose, but we ran out of space and needed the extra terrabyte, so the new 3tb seemed like the obvious choice. My job now takes literally 10 times longer to do. Thanks Apple, thanks alot!

I'll be honest, this is yet another poor effort from Apple and showing clearly that they do not care about the products or end user anymore. Don't even get me started on the poor spotlight and regular file search!

    Poor range & Inconsistent connection:

In order to maintain connectivity you will find yourself cycling wifi on and off on your devices throughout the day. Better to use something else or wait until Apple corrects whatever is wrong with the firmware on these.

Intermittent shutdown problems...Latest version has engineering problems!

I have had Apple routers and Time capsules for many years and until recently the experience has been mostly good. However, that said, I am very disappointed with the performance of my second 3TB TC purchased in late 2014. I have had to return and exchange it twice now and am currently "testing" the third unit.

It would appear there is a serious hardware or firmware problem that leads the device to power down intermittantly. It can power down once or twice a day sometimes, or may go for a week or more just fine then quite. The only way to reset it is unplug and replug the power cable and it sputters back to life.

The sign of failure, apart from the obvious is the LED light goes off (while still plugged in).

Apple have been pretty good and quick about providing a new unit. I am surprised though they cannot seem to read or access the TC diagnostics on board which supposedly get sent back to the mother ship also? Looking into the logs it is, and should be possible for the techs to see if thermal or other factors tripped the unit OFF.

Oh well..I'll continue testing #3 and hope for the best this time. I think its most likely the latest engineering version thats at fault. Its worth noting my original 3TB TC purchased in 2010-2011 works just fine and has never given any problems.
